A newly inducted student moves to the field for a football practise

The background is one of the residing hostels

It is very old dating back to 1963.

PS : This is my Undergraduate ( a government institute) Alma mater from where I did my bachelors in Mechanical engineering.

I stayed in the same hostel during the period from 1992-1996.

I visited my alma mater again in Dec 2022 after passing out from it in 1996

YCNH juvenile practicing shading in order to see into the water like his parents were doing. He never actually shaded any part of the actual water when we were there, but he’s getting his techniques down! Marblehead neck, Massachusetts

My first go with PS CC. Maybe it's because it's 4am, but I'm pretty proud of what I managed ^^

Five shots - hand held - not a great subject - with practice we'll get there.

The Geese are practicing their V formation as part of their fall ritual. The sounds of them squawking away as they fly overhead in large flocks is a sure sign the season is changing. I watched these geese take off together and I was impressed at how close they were beside each other. They were able to co-ordinate the movement of their wings so they did not bump into each other.

Let's do some exercise with Cranked and Escalated with a view to summer!

We went back and found the fledglings again. This chick was flapping its wings and taking short flights from branch to branch.

(222/365) It was a lovely warm evening on Monday while my sister was visiting from England & as she's not likely to come over during Winter (meaning I won't see her again until next Summer) so we switched on the Christmas lights over our pergola. For 115 pictures in 2015 #93 Light painting

We revisited the Balancing Rocks Project along the Ottawa River last weekend. I finally spent some time playing with my new Big Stopper filter. I've actually had it for about 4 months but I haven't really had the time to see how it works. The balancing rocks were crowded with new sculptures which made it harder to isolate a few. The wind was heavier than I would have liked considering I was working with glass while standing on a rock ledge. It also made the water a bit choppy. However, I did try this shot for effect and I am pleased with what the filter can do. There are a few imperfections in this image.( I think I got a bit of spray on the lens.) However, I was encouraged to try more shots on a calmer day. The rocks will be taken down soon though for the winter.

Happy Wing Wednesday!

Practice Makes Perfect - A couple weeks ago, I observed a cooperative immature Red-tailed Hawk on a family hike. I didn't get the shots I wanted that day, but figured I'd try again.

My buddy and I were treated to almost an hour of great passes by this hawk during a windy morning as it practiced hunting and chased a group of Turkey Vultures around. Was a great opportunity to practice bird in flight (BIF) techniques!

For the past two days, I've been practicing taking pictures of the Sun to prepare myself for the upcoming Solar Eclipse.

In NY State, the Eclipse will be partial! I just hope that the weather will be favorable.

The spot on the upper right of the sun's surface is actually a sunspot!

Sunspots are temporary phenomena on the Sun's atmosphere that appear as spots darker than the surrounding areas. They are regions of reduced surface temperature caused by concentration of magnetic field flux that inhibit convection.

Sunspots usually appear in pairs of opposite magnetic polarity. Their number varies according to the approximately 11-year solar cycle.

Went to the cabin, the highest point on her land and with just a few weeks to go before Halloween she told me it was time to see how well our magic worked. Using the orb, she handed it to me and said "let's do this!" with a wink.

I held the orb in my palm and she tapped it a few times with her finger and reminded me of some old magic we hadn't practiced in a long time. Looking at the orb as she tapped and concentrating on that old magic, the orb lifted from my hand and she made her hand flat, showing her palm and motioned me to push the orb towards her. It may have wobbled and she smiled softly and said "Yeah, you remember" and the orb almost snapped into a fixed spot between us.

For a bit it was remembering how things work, and how she has her witch strength and I can push and she can push back just as strong, if not stronger, I think she holds back sometimes to be honest. Yet, watching that orb hang in the air between us as we held it using magic makes for a fun Witch and Wizard combo.
