The practice and its flash-bangs made me jump as I was riding my bike on the other side of the river!

Stephen set my white balance, because the auto WB wasn't doing the trick. Also played with metering a little bit, though I got frustrated with trying to master off-center light metering and quit before I managed to figure out how to make my small hand keep the shutter button half-depressed while also moving the camera and finding the right focal point. Some days this whole photography venture feels entirely beyond me.
Practicing strainer avoidance stuff - and in this little tributary of the Birkenhead where the water definitely wasn't pumping - nobody who floated down and just wrapped around the log could muscle themselves over it...this particular conversation had something to do with a goat...
Taken at the Thursday, Aug 5, Houston Texans football practice
Arms outstretched over-head, tippy-toes, 1/40 shutter speed, live view, 1250 ISO... gotta make it work!
I decided to have a practice run on night photography at Steele Indian School Park last Saturday. As I pulled into the lot a little after 8, I was surprised by all the cars still there.
Turns out a free concert by Jacob Koller's Music for Bowlers jazz trio was going on in the ampitheatre. I completely forgot that this is the season where events at the park happen.
In any case, I parked my tripod at this vantage point and clicked away. The shot isn't remarkable unto itself, but it captures a casual unreported event happening in Phoenix and is one of my first night shots not overcome by noise.

Our backyard. The spindly object on the left is not a nearby shrubbery, but instead a maple next to the garage.
Taken the night before a promised winter storm. Judging by the table on the back patio, our house had 11 3/4" of snowfall.
Tech. notes:
No exposure or color adjustment. This was done with a 30-second exposure with all house lights turned off.
I hadn't taken any waterfall shot in a long time so I went out to a couple of easy one -- just a few steps from parking lots - to keep my hand in.
Clarendon Falls here.
Another 2 weeks has passed I have not touched the watercolor at all because of the extreme busy schedule of work, a very good excuse.
I am so glad the long weekend has come! It seems I almost forgot how to paint. I was reading " Watercolor Simplified" by Pat Weaver. This is this morning's watercolor practice.

Medical Friendly Shelter Full Scale Exercise 2018
The City held a full-scale exercise of the Medically Friendly Shelter (MFS) designed to establish a learning environment for participants to exercise their MFS operational plans.
The exercise served as a practical walk through of planning, operational coordination, operational communication, logistics and supply chain management, public health, healthcare, and emergency medical services
The MFS is only activated for a Category 2 or greater hurricane or as directed by the City Manager. The MFS is for people who, during periods of evacuation or emergency, require sheltering assistance due to physical, mental or cognitive impairment, or a sensory disability that exceeds the basic level of care provided at a general population shelter, but does not require the level of care provided at a skilled medical facility. This includes help with administering medication, personal hygiene assistance with activities of daily living (washing, dressing and eating).
