These old LP&L poles (now Entergy) have been out of use for years. They run into the swamps of Southeastern LA. With no maintenance these were easily damaged during Hurricane Gustav last year.

I don't know the company but they were in Pensacola

Former Entergy lines that now belong to LUS.

An old one; I can't describe how good silhouettes look to me. Even ones of power lines I guess...but I much prefer trees!

In Icelandic, the word for electricity is rafmagn (raf + magn = amber + power). In the olden days, static electricity was generated by rubbing amber and wool together. In a pinch, two kittens could be rubbed together to achieve the same effect. This is how amber power is transmitted in Iceland.

Took this picture while laying down, because the fallen tree I was sitting on fell the rest of the way.

The 138kvs have been decomissioned for years but the 34.5kvs are still running for the communities in the swamp.

I've never seen one like this.

For some reason, Entergy's 69kv line switches over to Cleco before going into the Tony Chacherie's plant to power it.

Doesn't look like it will hold much longer.

Electrical Pylons near the NEC, Birmingham.

Ektar 100 pushed to 200, Nikon F4 w/ Nikkor 35mm f/1.8D @ F1.8. Handheld.

Scanned using a Z6 with Nikon's ES2 Film Scanning kit, with the 60mm f/2.8 at the specs to the right.

Of the shots I took that day, this image was probably the most significant stretch for Ektar. There's a significant amount of noise and color shifting introduced in the darker parts of the image, although the car's lights, license plate, and sky seem to come through more clearly. With the 60mm and the Z6 scan, every bit of the grain is visible (zoom in to 100% and check).

Scanning Process: I bracketed three exposures of the negative using the ES2 kit (background light provided by a lightbox). The bracketed exposures were merged to HDR in photoshop, where I did pull in the highlights and shadows (this, as expected, does amplify the grain and noise). As a last step, I used Negative Lab Pro to flip the negative into a positive, and tweaked colors to try and pull out some of the color cast.

Electric Powerlines

Location: Near Stourton.

A pair of footy boots I found hanging from some powerlines. There was actually another pair of shoes close by as well.

I am pretty sure LA is high on the list that godzilla keeps for tracking potential attack spots

An older Entergy line that was upgraded to accomodate the new substation

This plant was completed in 2002. It was erected adjacent to Entergy's existing 500kv substation that had two Cleco Circuits and 6 Entergy's Circuits (including the 500kv) connecting. It is now Cleco's largest powerplant.

Obviously there is editing on this, I was just having fun playing around with this shot.

Poles decorate the street in this neighborhood...

Recently first attempt at long exposures, cable release+tree stump. Dusty smudges up top are in fact stars...

A friend of mine (an older fellow) is in Iraq training Iraqian police. He sends photos from time to time. This one made me think Preston Hwy in Okolona doesn't look so bad afterall. I could hardly believe they were powerlines, so I doublechecked with my friend. He said he didn't notice the "thing" caught in the wires until he took the photo. I thought it was a small boy!
