This is a newer pole, but with older insulators. This is always a dead give away that this was a hurricane repair. This line lost about 30 poles after Hurricane Lili, most of which were rebuilt by Mississippi Power crews that were helping.
This one hasn't been put up yet. The crews put up 4 poles out of 8 on 01/08/2010 and four days later have yet to be back to finish.
These lines follow I-10 from Henderson, LA all the way to Beaumont, TX. This a prime example of how weak and old these poles are. The ones on the right side were leaning forward.
Many of these Oaks are 50 years old or greater and are protected by the Live Oak Society. LUS has to run their lines above them. This is on the UL campus.
Most of the time I dislike having power lines and utility poles in my images because they are just clutter. But in this instance the power line added an element of interest to a sunrise made west of Frankfort, Indiana.
The wooden part is the distribution lines, that part was actually part of the old wooden structure. Not quite sure why the bottom part wasn't added to the new concrete structure.
Circa October 1995. Without a tripod, I captured this nice aurora band running along these powerlines. It was a crude attempt to be cute but some in the power industry like it enough to purchase my work for their advertisements.
