On the eve of the Great War, Pula was an important military and strategic century of tremendous importance for the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy as its principal naval port and its fleet anchorage; the city was therefore fortified with a complex system of manned fortification constructions (forts,batteries,artillery companies and machine gun positions)that extended from the east to the west coast of Istria barring all accesses to the city.
In addition to the city's civilian population a large number of soldiers and highly skilled professionals in all sorts of fields working for the navy and the naval arsenal lived in Pula and so the Austro-Hungarian authorities, immediately prior to the First World War and during the War, began the constructions of an underground tunnel system(trenches,galleries and passageways) with communication passageways under the city's hills to shelter the city's population and to serve as ammunition stores. Not a single hill in the inner city was spared from drilling and digging! A widely spread network of undergrounds tunnels - shelters was created, with two of the largest under the hills Kastel and Monte Ghiro.
The Venetian fort on the hill of Kastel (Hafenkastell) served as a warehouse,barrack and observation post. In the fort's underground there are rooms that were used as men's quarters, as storage space for material and ammunition and as prison for the captured enemy soldiers.
Under the city hill - Kastel,there are two shelter tunnels, one is directly underneath the fort located on the top of the hill, and the second one is at the foot of the hill. It connects two inner city areas nod is approximately 400m long.
At the foot of the hill under the Kastel four entrances with passageways positioned on different sides of the hill lead towards a central space in the middle, where the passageways interconnect. The entrances are so positioned to enable a constant air flow to the whole system, and the temperature during the whole year varies from 14 to18 C. These tunnels,with its 3 to 6 meters wide and approximately 2,5 meters tall passageways, could accommodate about 6000 persons.
After the Great War the Italian rulers continued to use Pula's underground tunnels, they expanded them and added to them. After the Second World War they were designated as shelters for the civilian population and as emergency hospitals,and at that time new fallout shelters, popularly called "atomic shelters". where built to protect occupants from radioactive debris or biohazard. The fallout shelters can accommodate approximately 6000 persons, while the old tunnels can about 45000. The total capacity of all Pula's shelters is more than 50000 people, which is an impressive number, as it almost equals the number of the city's population.

This is the first exercise in the Lighting 102 article at strobist.com, which examines the angle of light.
Using my very small setup (lone SB-600) I set to 1/64th power the whole time, with the speedlight zoomed to 24mm. Shutter was set to 1/200th (max flash sync on the D80) with an aperture of f/5.6, ISO of 200, using the built in flash as a commander (CLS).

98 years later, the PRR Depot still stands. A lot has changed in the area, no more double track, no more PRR, no more passenger service, no more water tower, no more interlocking tower, and a lot more. NS uses it as a storage/office building now, but the only thing still the same is the Position Light and the stick rail. Times certainly have changed just about everywhere you look.

Some Drivers from the Previous Day were Seen Packing Up and Heading Home after a Brilliant Days Racing while Others were Just Arriving and Getting their Machines Prepared for The Race Track.

First Up onto the Circuit was The Intermarque Silhouettes and Thease Machines are Very Quick and Built to be as Light Weight as Possible by Using a Space Frame Chassis and a Fibreglass Body.
Lets Find out who Qualified were and Who Managed to Take Pole Position for Race 1.
In First Place Securing Pole Position and The Fastest Lap was (Danny Hun) in his Ford Autoxross Fiesta ST with a Best Lap Time of 1:01.454 and a Top Speed of 70.76mph. Great Lap there Danny Really Keeping that Car on the Track and Taking a Strong Pole Position.
In Second Place was (Pat Kiely) in his Vauxhall Tigra with a Best Lap Time of 1:01.813 and a Top Speed of 70.35mph. Brilliant Drive there Pat Nice Work and Fantastic Second Place on the Grid for Race 1.

Britcar Endurance Championship-(Race 1 Results)
As The Light Fell away from the Circuit The Britcar Endurance Championship made its way out onto the circuit with Lights a Blaze and a lot of Energy coming from both the Drivers and their Cars This was Going to be a Race of Endurance and Car Management thought the 45 Minutes of the Race.

Valluga's Ian Humphries/Benji Hetherington in Second while
Nial Bradley Took Third.
With a Quick set of Warm Up Laps Over it was Time for The Brit car's to make their way out onto the Track and Get Ready for two Races of Endurance to Decide the Britcar Champion of 2021.

Now it was Time to head Back to the Blue Badged Ford Machines Once again as the Modified Ford Series Rolled out onto the Race Track with each car being Heavily Modified from their Road Counterparts. With Escort Cosworth's and RS200's Roaring and Ready to go it was Time to see what the First Group A set of Drivers could do in Qualifying.

In Second Place was (James Harris) in his Ford Escort MK2 with a Best Lap Time of 53.928 and a Top Speed of 80.63mph. Amazing work there James Pushing Hard and Giving the Old Girl everything she has to offer.
In Third Place was (Malcom Harding) in his Ford Escort MK1 with a Best Lap Time of 54.892 and a Top Speed of 79.22mph. Awesome Drive there from Malcom Overcoming a lot of Pressure to put in an Incredible Lap for P3.

Enduro KA (Qualifying)
The Final Qualifying Session of the Day Had Come and its the Enduro KA'S. with all of the Cars on the Grid being Models of the Popular Ford KA made Between 1998-2009 thease Cars were Fun City cars that could get you from A to B with Ease. They were Also Build on a tight budget meaning that Handling Performance and Comfort were a Big Selling point of thease Brilliant little cars.
The Racing Versions seen here in the pictures however are built for Racing. they use different tyres but still the same Legendary 1.3 Dura Tec Engine found in their Road Going Counterparts.
Lets Take a look at Qualifying and see which KA and Driver made it to the top step of the podium.

In Third Place was (Fat Boys Racing Matt Pinny) with a Best Lap Time of 1:03.921 and a Top Speed of 68.03mph. Very Well Done there Matt Great Drive and Awesome Car Control.
Three Very Quick and Determined Teams and with 4 Races to Race in this will be a Very Close and Tight Battles Between all Teams and Drivers. Skill and Talent will be crucial to survival and Who will be able to take the First Victory of Race 1. Lets Find Out.

In Second Place was (Octane Junkies Adam Smith and Martyn Smith) with a Lap Time of 1:03.621 and an Average Speed of 67.90mph. Fantastic Work Once Again to the likes of Adam and Martyn Another Set of Drivers Keeping their Second Place Finish.
In Third Place was (Fat Boys Racing Matt Pinny) with a Lap Time of 1:04.005 and an Average Speed of 67.39mph. Well Done once again Matt Perfect Driving and a Well Balanced Car out there.
Looks like the Top Three Remain the Same even After Two Races but will Race 3 Bring a New Twist to the Current Driver and Team Standings. Lets Find Out.

In First Place was (Octane Junkies Adam Smith and Martyn Smith) with a Lap Time of 1:03.849 and an Average Speed of 67.57mph. Amazing Work there Adam and Martyn managing to topple the likes of Alex and Luke to Earn P1.
In Second Place was (Fat Boys Racing Matt Pinny) with a Lap Time of 1:03.584 and an Average Speed of 67.51mph. Well Done there Matt Improving up to P2 and Taking Home a Well Deserved Finish in the Standings for Race 3.
In Third Place was (Alex Reade Motorsport's Luke Reade and Chris Reade) with a Lap Time of 1:03.606 and an Average Speed of 67.44mph. Very Good Come Back Drive for Both Luke and Ale to Finish Third Great Driving.
Many Twists and Turns Have Benn brought into Race 3 with the Top Three Drivers now being Shuffled Around the Gird into different Positions. With One More Race to Go who will be The Last Driver of the Day on the Top Step of the Podium.

In First Place was (Octane Junkies Adam Smith and Martyn Smith) with a Lap Time of 1:03.442 and an Average Speed of 67.82mph. An Amazing Final Win for the Day to Octane Junkies Adam and Martyn Smith Congratulations and Very Well Driven.
In Second Place was (Piston Heads Peter Dignan) with a Lap Time of 1:03.781 and an Average Speed of 67.54mph. Incredible work there Peter Getting P2 and Standing on the Podium and Incredible Achievement.
In Third Place was (IP Racing Oliver Wilmot and Scott Parkin) with a Lap Time of 1:03.710 and an Average Speed of 67.47mph. Very Well Done to both Scott and Oliver on that Fantastic P3 Achievement. Something Very Special to Remember for both of you.

Stefanou beach is located at the position of Seitan Limania, 22km northeast of Chania and 2km east of the village Chordaki, at the east side of Akrotiri Cape. The wider area is named Seitan Limania, after the wild landscape, the steep cliffs and the strong sea streams which are considered dangerous. Here are situated three parallel narrow coves, well protected from the waves.
Crete is an island with an exquisite 1,000 kilometer-long coastline dotted with numerous coves, bays and peninsulas, which afford a multitude of soft, sandy beaches along the beautifully blue Mediterranean Sea.

enjoying a fine labyrinth in chinatown, after 30km ride from tokyo in winter wind, my body was getting chilled with fingers frozen, and gradually appearing the worry about another 30km to ride back home. but, soon after that, warm and delicious chinese cuisine warmed and cheering up me :-)
This is a photograph from the first running of the newly situated Irish 3/4 Marathon (formerly the Athlone 3/4) which was held in Longwood, Enfield, Co. Meath, Ireland on Sunday 9th of October 2016 at 10:00. The event is positioned perfectly in the calendar as a key training race before the Dublin City Marathon at the end of the month. This year was the first year that the event was held in Longwood, Co. Meath which is now well known for its hosting of the Longwood 10KM/5KM annual races and a host venue for East of Ireland Marathon series marathons on a bi-annual basis. The race started and finished at Longwood GAA club just outside the village of Longwood. It followed an anti-clockwise course around the beautiful picturesque countryside of south Meath. The course went through the townlands of Longwood, Castlerickard, Killyon, Hill-of-Down, Anneville and Ashfield Clonard, Blackshare, Stoneyford and back to Longwood. The river Boyne and Blackwater were crossed as was the Royal Canal and the Dublin-Sligo Railway line at Hill-of-Down. Overall this was a very different course to the previous years in Athlone. The overall elevation of the course works out at 3/4 of the total elevation of the Dublin Marathon course. What most stood out about today's race was the course and how the countryside around it looked on a beautiful almost perfect Autumn morning. The organisation of the race was first class with every detail taken care of from the start until the finish.

As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:
►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera
►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set
►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone
►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!
You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. As alternatives we advise you to contact the race organisers to enquire if there were (1) other photographs taking photographs at the race event or if (2) there were professional commercial sports photographers taking photographs which might have some photographs of you available for purchase. Art Positions is a part of Art Basel devoted to emerging galleries from around the world. Shipping containers are converted into public art spaces directly at the beach front and the center area houses a performance space with art by Ryan McGinness as well as skateboarding demonstrations and DJ sets.
This is the first exercise in the Lighting 102 article at strobist.com, which examines the angle of light.
Using my very small setup (lone SB-600) I set to 1/64th power the whole time, with the speedlight zoomed to 24mm. Shutter was set to 1/200th (max flash sync on the D80) with an aperture of f/5.6, ISO of 200, using the built in flash as a commander (CLS).
Speedlight was about 45 degress camera left for this shot note the shadow to the right
