I positioned this bright white Clematis to cheer up a dark corner in the garden. It has turned out to be quite stunning !

Unfortunately, I was not able to see this guy pupate. It happened in the wee hours of the morning when I was still snug in my bed. However, there is a beautiful Chrysalis hanging from this leaf now. I’ll post that picture tomorrow. Good luck on your transformation Monarch!

RKO_3082-2. A nice wildebeest at the water meadows in Amboseli National park, Kenya. Despite the water at the meadows, many wildebeest and zebra died as the grasses they eat didn't grow due the lack of rain.

The Castle of Levizzano is located in a dominant position on the wonderful hills of the homonymous village in the municipality of Castelvetro. Its structure consists of a city wall in the centre of which there is the so-called Torre Matildica - Matildic Tower.

Starting from the 12th century, the fortified complex was restored and enlarged. In particular, next to the tower that was placed to protect the entrance to the Castle, a part of the feudal palace was erected and an underground tunnel was built, which still joins the Palace to the Tower.

Around the 16th century the buildings underwent important transformations: dating back to this period is the so-called "Stanza dei Vescovi" or Bishops’ Room, which has a ceiling with ancient wooden structures and a cycle of Renaissance frescoes. On the main floor, you can enter the charming loggia overlooking the hills dotted with vineyards from the main hall. Campo San Rocco and the ancient former Napoleonic cemetery stand in the immediate vicinity of the Castle.

The easiest thing to be in the world is you. The most difficult thing to be is what other people want you to be. Don't let them put you in that position.

Edensor (pronounced ‘Enzer’) is a small but pretty village situated within the grounds of the Chatsworth House estate in the Peak District National Park.

The original village was recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086, at which time it was located along the River Derwent, where the buildings were visible from Chatsworth House. This view displeased the then Duke of Devonshire, William Cavendish, however, and between 1838 and 1842 the entire village was dismantled. Many of the residents were moved to the nearby Chatsworth villages of Beeley and Pilsley, and the planning and building of a new village, over the brow of a hill and out of sight of Chatsworth House, was managed by the famed architect Sir Joseph Paxton.

Only one of the houses, Park Cottage, was allowed to remain in its original position, reputedly because its elderly tenant at the time did not want to move and the Duke took pity on him.

The village is made up of a charming, slightly eccentric mixture of different house styles, from Tudor to Norman, with Swiss-style cottages and Italian-style villas. Rumour has it that the architect who worked with Paxton to produce the designs for the houses, John Robertson, presented the Duke with a selection of house styles to choose from at a time when he was particularly busy, and the Duke – rather distractedly – chose ‘one of each’.

The original church of St Peter’s dated back to the 12th Century. However, in the mid-19th Century it was rebuilt and expanded for the 7th Duke of Devonshire, and its beautiful spire now dominates the skyline. The churchyard contains a number of graves of the Chatsworth’s Cavendish family, including a memorial to Kathleen Kennedy, sister of the former US president John F Kennedy, who was the wife of William Cavendish, Marquess of Hartington. The churchyard also contains the grave of Sir Joseph Paxton, the famous architect of the Crystal Palace in London.

It's always easier to make appointments when you’re in a position of strength !!

According to Wikipedia :

American Crane Corporation is an American manufacturer of construction cranes based in Wilmington, North Carolina. It manufacturers lattice boom crawler cranes with capacities ranging from 50 to 275 tons. The American Crane Corporation was founded in 1882 as the Franklin Manufacturing Company, and in 1892 the name changed to American Hoist & Derrick. The company manufacturers terrain cranes, crawler cranes and tower cranes. In 1998 American Crane Corporation was acquired by Terex for $27 million. The purchase of American Crane Corporation brought Terex a manufacturer of lattice boom cranes.

Having found this frozen icicle I noticed that it was slowly melting. I waited patiently for the point when the ice was changing to water and dropping off the bottom of the icicle. It took many attempts until I finally caught the droplet in the optimum position.

Rathaus underground station in Cologne, Germany

A pleasing contrast of midnight blue and silvery gleam

When completed, the new north–south suburban railway line in Cologne will have eight stops. While the last stretch of the line is scheduled to come into operation in 2016, Rathaus station has already proven itself fit for everyday operation. Located directly beneath the historic market, Rathaus underground station provides quick and convenient access to the centre of Cologne's historic Altstadt (old town) district, which was previously only accessible by bus.

The station, covering almost 3,000 m², lies 16 metres below ground. Its design is characterised by a fresh contrast of midnight blue and silver. A large proportion of the wall area is velvety-smooth blue, while the ceilings and certain sections of the walls are a shiny silver. The walls and ceilings are clad in hot-dip galvanised and powdercoated steel sheet modules, which are perforated in the ceiling area so that they also absorb sound.

Above the entrances, main traffic areas and footpaths throughout the station, WE-EF DOC240 recessed exterior downlights ensure excellent visibility and safety as well as aid orientation. The luminaires had to be integrated into various building situations – either installed in circular sections of the expanded metal ceilings or combined with an installation tube and mounted directly on the concrete ceilings. The DOC240 downlights in the underground station have proven to be versatile, not just in terms of the installation and mounting options, but also in relation to lighting techniques.

While the stairways and escalators are illuminated from a relatively high position, the height between floors in the main traffic areas is rather low. With different light sources in varying wattages – in this case HIT and CFL lamps, and two symmetric light distributions [M] medium and [EE] very narrow beam – the WE-EF luminaires provide exactly the right amount of light for the unique spaces.

All DOC240 downlights used in this project are fitted with vibration protection in order to extend their service life. Luminaires mounted at especially high installation positions are equipped with a device to lower the luminaire to facilitate ease of maintenance.

ISO 2500 (forcefully limited, could have been more) is not to my liking, but the end result looks okay.
