This is a photograph from the second running of the newly situated Irish 3/4 Marathon (formerly the Athlone 3/4) which was held in Longwood, Enfield, Co. Meath, Ireland on Sunday 8th of October 2017 at 10:00. The event is positioned perfectly in the calendar as a key training race before the Dublin City Marathon at the end of the month. This year was the second year that the event was held in Longwood, Co. Meath which is now well known for its hosting of the Longwood 10KM/5KM annual races and a host venue for East of Ireland Marathon series marathons on a bi-annual basis. The race started and finished at Longwood GAA club just outside the village of Longwood. It followed an anti-clockwise course around the beautiful picturesque countryside of south Meath. The course went through the townlands of Longwood, Castlerickard, Killyon, Hill-of-Down, Anneville and Ashfield Clonard, Blackshare, Stoneyford and back to Longwood. The river Boyne and Blackwater were crossed as was the Royal Canal and the Dublin-Sligo Railway line at Hill-of-Down. Overall this was a very different course to the previous years in Athlone. The overall elevation of the course works out at 3/4 of the total elevation of the Dublin Marathon course. What most stood out about today's race was the course and how the countryside around it looked on a beautiful almost perfect Autumn morning. There was a large local effort with stewarding and many local people watched from their gardens as the race passed by. The organisation of the race was first class with every detail taken care of from the start until the finish. There was some rain showers from about 13:00 onwards but these soon passed.
There is a large set of photographs from today's race - taken at the start in Longwood village and the 25KM mark outside near our home.
They are available on our Flickr photostream at the following set. www.flickr.com/photos/peterm7/albums/72157687694983023

Let's get a bit technical: We use Creative Commons Licensing for these photographs
We use the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License for all our photographs here in this photograph set. What does this mean in reality?
The explaination is very simple.
Attribution- anyone using our photographs gives us an appropriate credit for it. This ensures that people aren't taking our photographs and passing them off as their own. This usually just mean putting a link to our photographs somewhere on your website, blog, or Facebook where other people can see it.
ShareAlike – anyone can use these photographs, and make changes if they like, or incorporate them into a bigger project, but they must make those changes available back to the community under the same terms.
Above all what Creative Commons aims to do is to encourage creative sharing. See some examples of Creative Commons photographs on Flickr: www.flickr.com/creativecommons/
I ran in the race - but my photograph doesn't appear here in your Flickr set! What gives?
As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:
►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera
►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set
►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone
►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!
You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. As alternatives we advise you to contact the race organisers to enquire if there were (1) other photographs taking photographs at the race event or if (2) there were professional commercial sports photographers taking photographs which might have some photographs of you available for purchase. You might find some links for further information above.
Don't like your photograph here?
That's OK! We understand!
If, for any reason, you are not happy or comfortable with your picture appearing here in this photoset on Flickr then please email us at petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com and we will remove it as soon as possible. We give careful consideration to each photograph before uploading.
I want to tell people about these great photographs!

A friend's wedding. First time I make some wedding shots.
Last month Bethany asked me if she could attend a dance class as she no longer goes to swimming classes and needs some sort of hobby. I had a look around for a local class and found a one just around the corner that had really good reviews.
We went along a couple weekends back to have a look at the classes, we were both impressed by what we saw, Bethany was so excited about joining there that she was counting down the days to her first class.
Her first session was last weekend, we hadn't bought her ballet shoes or tap shoes just incase she changed her mind, luckily the dance school lent her some shoes, even though the tap shoes were a size to small.
We went into town this week to pick her up ballet and tap shoes, while in the shop she was walking around with her tap shoes on trying to make as much clip clop sound as she could manage, while she was doing that Imogen was walking around clutching a bright pink tutu, luckily we know the shop owner so she was fine with my girls making a ridiculous amount of noise.
Today Bethany had her first lesson with her new shoes, she loved every second of it. When she came home all she wanted to do was show us what she had learnt in class. She hasn't stopped dancing today, I can already see how much she enjoys dancing and hope she can keep it up.

We'd been checking on her every couple of hours for days, then every hour that day. Before her lambs dropped into position, we'd been seeing their feet and heads and bottoms push at her belly, rippling her wool like waves along her sides as they did. We marvelled at all of this, how vigorous her lamb, or more likely, lambs were, even inside of her.
I was going to cut my visits down to every half an hour when she started pawing and scratching at the ground, lying down, then getting up and arching her back. Repeat. That's when I called C to come home and we settled down into the barn for the afternoon and evening.
Over at the house, the boys fended for themselves, making waffles for all of us for dinner.
By around 9 pm. she was still at it. Her pushing had been strong for a long time, and then became less so, with her resting times becoming longer in between. It looked like she was losing strength and we were seeing no visible change or progress.
Last year, the one single night during lambing when none of the ewes were showing any signs of impending labor, we decided to let ourselves sleep through the night. No alarms set. No taking turns crawling out of our warm bed, getting bundled up in coat, hat, mittens, socks, boots & headlamp, and no going out to the barn to check, to stand in the cold and darkness to watch as long as necessary for any signs, before reversing the process, resetting the alarm, and then falling into bed for another hour or two.
The following morning we found Luna in labor, with a single, large, lamb half way out. C helped pull the lamb but it was dead. Who knows how long during that night she'd been lying there trying to push it out? Poor mama. She was so tired. We had to pin her down and milk her off for several days afterwards.
We felt as if we'd let her down. That is why we've been keeping such a close eye on her this year. And that is why we finally intervened. The lambs weren't properly positioned for birthing, her cervix wasn't dilating, and they were both big lambs this year again. C went in, worked at slowly stretching her cervix, then at finding the lambs' heads and feet, moved the first one into position, and then, working with her contractions, pulled it out by the head and front feet. It wiggled when it came out, took a breath, and we all stopped holding our own breaths.
As she licked off the first lamb we sat back and gave her a chance - about a half an hour or so - to push the next one out on her own before intervening again. The second was harder apparently. When they say "pull" a lamb, they really mean "PULL" a lamb. While she began licking the second lamb, C checked once again to see that there weren't any more lambs inside her. There was not.
We watched to make sure the lambs were both nursing properly, made sure Luna was eating and drinking again, gave her a energy boost of molasses in her water.
Around midnight, C was about ready to fall over asleep standing there in the barn, and headed back to the house. I stayed, watching for her placenta to pass, but finally called it a night at around 1 a.m. when I could no longer feel my fingers. The sunny spring day had turned into a crisp clear night in the 20 degrees F range.
The following morning, C was worried at Luna's energy levels. She still appeared to be trying to push her placenta out. He 'drenched' her with a water & molasses solution and then went to the vet to get a shot of pitocin to give to her, which would ensure she expels the placenta.
One of the lambs seemed a little weak, too, so we tube fed it a little colostrum milked off of one of the other ewes last week. That probably wasn't necessary, but we were erring on the safe side.
Two days later, we're keeping them confined in the barn, giving them time to rest and recoup from the rough labor.
We are recouping, too.
At least there are no bottle lambs to feed through the night. Hurrah!

This is a photograph from the annual Navan Athletic Club 6KM Road Race and Fun Run which was held at Claremont Stadium, Navan, Co. Meath, Ireland on Friday 8th May 2015 at 20:00. The race is organised as a memorial to former club members Simon Cumbers and Paddy Hyland. The weather defied its position in the calendar as a race in early May with dreary wet conditions for the race. However the conditions for running were actually reasonably good considering the weather of the previous 24 hours. The race starts about 1KM away from the Claremont Stadium with the finish on the tartan track.

Using the "good old" Sony again. I sort of realized the OM-D has its flaws sensor-wise (very noisy), so why not use stellar state-of-the-art while you have such camera. So the Sony a7ii will be used more for a while now. With the great 35mm Sony-Zeiss lens.

Hemel Hempstead Field Trip - 26/06/13
Last night Roger and myself made a trip to Gadesprings to setup 3 traps and then went onto Roughdown Common again. We set one light up next to the chalk pit (MV) and ran a cable through the trees towards the road and
positioned the Actinic within a clearing in the wood.
The weather was pretty much perfect, though a little cooler than our previous trip here, the sky did clear slightly and the temperature on my was home did dip to 9c.
The moths were quick to respond and we were netting lots as they were coming in. The species were mainly singletons albeit apart from several species such as Grey Pug, Heart & Dart, Light Emerald, Common Marbled Carpet, Common Carpet and Mottled Beauty.
Shears was nice to see in good numbers aswell.
Best Macro moths were probably Coronet and Haworth's Pug, the former becoming a regular nowadays in the West of Hertfordshire.
Gadesprings did not fair so good again when we checked the traps at 2am with very little n any of them, but we did get a Miller which was nice.
The suspected Triple-spotted Clay, after checking the underneath of the forewings turned out to be a Double Square-spot.
The Caloptilia was indeed syringella.
Roger did a good spot for the Haworth's Pug.
Numbers of species are approximate.

52 species at Gadesprings (40 Macro - 12 Micro)

This mummy is a Wari child sitting in a fetal position with a gold funerary mask and ceremonial dress. The Wari culture occupied the highlands and the coast of what is now modern Peru from 500 C.E. to 1000 C.E. Their belief, shared with their successors the Inca, is that one begins life in a fetal position and they should leave the same way.
The Museo Larco houses a vast collection of 10,000 years of Peruvian pre-Columbian history (before Christopher Columbus in 1492) from thirteen ancient cultures.
