A monster lives in my pool. I don’t know how it got there. It only comes out at night.

I first saw it when I went for a swim one night. There it was, lurking in the corner. I was scared witless. I ran away screaming. I did not call the police. Who would believe me?

One morning, I awoke to find my glasses on the back porch. The glasses I had lost in the swimming pool. Somebody had placed a flower beside my glasses.

Later that same day, I left some biscuits by the poolside. Nobody touched them during the day. In the morning, they were gone.

This all happened some weeks ago.

Now I lie awake at night, listening. Waiting and listening in the dark. I like listening in the dark. It’s wonderfully relaxing, to listen in the dark. Waiting for the monster.

I hear the garden door open, gently. I hear naked, wet feet tiptoe towards the kitchen. I hear the fridge door open. I hear the satisfying sound of munching. Isn’t it wonderful?

At night, I don’t bother locking my front door anymore. You’d have to be crazy to break into my house. I have a monster living in my pool. It's in the kitchen right now.

Moderate safety level so I don't scare kiddies and grandma's.

The monster in the pool: Kangsom

(Kangsom is not a monster in real life, let me assure you, she is a very nice person. We’re just versatile).

My second visit to the Mill Pool near Beeston Castle on a much brighter day !

Part of a new series I decided to do after going to the pool with my niece yesterday. I love the idea of people at the pool since everyone looks funny.

It is a hot spring located in the Upper Geyser Basin. Its average temperature is around 69.8 °C (157.6 °F) and is 23 feet (7 m) deep. The pool was named by Mrs E. N. McGowan, wife of Assistant Park Superintendent, Charles McGowan in 1883. She called it "Convolutus", the Latin name for the morning glory flower, which the spring resembles.

The distinct colour of the pool is due to bacteria which inhabit the water. On a few rare occasions the Morning Glory Pool has erupted as a geyser, usually following an earthquake or other nearby seismic activity. Several entryways have been clogged due to objects being thrown in by tourists, reducing the hot water supply, and in turn altering the overall appearance of the pool.

Second shot today from the Star Casino deck is a deep dive into the centre of Southbank Parklands which line the southern bank of the Brisbane River opposite the city itself. Up until the 1970's, this area of South Brisbane was one to be avoided if possible consisting of old, mostly abandoned warehouses and wharves, sleazy pubs and miscellaneous other businesses all left over, it felt from the 1890's! These were swept away by a basic park by the late 1970's although in this view you can see a couple of heritage buildings that were saved.

Then came World Expo '88 that transformed the area and started a complete renewal of most of the surrounding suburb which is now home to the Queensland Performing Arts Centre, a TAFE college and Griffith University, the ABC's Queensland base, The Exhibition Centre, the Queensland Museum, Library, Art Gallery and Gallery of Modern Art at the western end. These are mostly out of frame to the right. The pool(s) are basically the centre of Southbank Parklands. The line of low rise home units beyond the trees are bordered by Little Stanley and Grey Streets with the ground floor for the whole distance being a long line of very diverse restaurants.

Not many people on the beach the day this was shot back midweek in September . This spot on the river is about the centre of a large reverse S (from this side) as it meanders across its flood plain. And flood plain it literally is as both sides have been inundated to one degree or another in every major flood.

This area is served by South Brisbane railway station while the far eastern end including the Maritime Museum is adjacent to Southbank station.

got an "explore"! thanks you all

I've had this shot of a coastal tidal pool in mind for a long time. On the morning of the shoot the wind was blowing a gale and the tide was rapidly on the way in. This is not the sharpest picture but i'm pleased with the overall look.

This pool is my second favorite of the whole park.

Best viewed large.

This was taken a few days after a 10 inch snow fall. The pool had the best color I have every seen. The colors come from algae and lichen. Different areas of pools and geysers maintain near constant temperatures. Different color algae and lichen grow at these different temperatures.

Found in Gordon Falls Reserve Leura, NSW, Australia. Taken a day after heavy rains had visited the area. Already the flow had dropped off, but still a very lush environment.

A glorious sunset over Longmoor Pool in Sutton Park.

Eas Chia-Aig are pretty little falls to the East of Loch Arkaig. This image shows the lower of two main falls. The falls are named after a witch hence the image title. Also, as a bit of movie trivia this waterfall is part of the scene where Liam Neeson in Rob Roy, evades capture by jumping off a bridge to only fall down a series of waterfalls with the English in hot pursuit. I believe it is a sequence shot at a few locations but Rob Roys final fall is into the Witches Pool. Take a look at the below link if interested.

One more from the Rock Pool at Malibu Creek State Park.

After going here last week, I rewatched Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, over Thanksgiving Weekend, and amazingly, it still holds up after all these years.

The cliffs that surround the Rock Pool are where Butch and Sundance made their spectacular leap to evade capture by "those guys," including the one in the white hat, Joe Lefors, and the famous Indian tracker, Lord Baltimore, who wind up following them all the way down to Bolivia.

Tricky to do justice to the pools and springs. Now I'm home I've been musing that a better way to capture them might be to put my camera on the end of a very long telescopic monopod, so the view is angled down, rather than horizontal.

The library hosted a swim party for all kids 6-18 who had read over 30 books in the Texas Reading Club. There was fun in the Friendswood pool, plus grilled hot dogs by the Boy Scouts and popsicles for everyone!
