As part of my project to make a selfie in every park in Amsterdam, I have decided to take this week's 52-Weeks selfie in the Noorderpark in Amsterdam Noord...
Location: Noorderpark (at the side of the Meeuwenlaan and Adelaarsweg).
Coordinates: 52°23'28" N 4°55'22" E
Reason: The idea of 'selfie visiting' all parks in Amsterdam. This first morning of the Spring 2018 I have chosen the Noorderpark.
Noorderpark: The Noorderpark is a park in Amsterdam-Noord. It originated in 2014 after merging the Florapark and Volewijkspark located on both sides of the Noordhollandsch Kanaal.
The merger and redesign of the park follows the vision of landscape architect West 8. In 2011, the redevelopment of the Volewijkspark-Oost (eastern side of Nieuwe Leeuwarderweg) was completed, as well as three bicycle and pedestrian viaducts that bridge the Nieuwe Leeuwarderweg. The theme of hedera always recurs in the park. For example, it can be seen in gates, railings and pillars on viaducts, ornamental plants, and the marking of the footpaths and cycle paths. At the entrance on the Adelaarsweg is a large mast, made of stainless steel and steel cables, which in the spring will be covered with wisteria. Just next to it is a wading pool surrounded by benches and a stainless steel pergola. [ Wikipedia ]

The pool and surrounding room, which were built from 1927-1934, can be compared to an ancient Roman bath. The pool, like the baths, is located indoors. Its water was heated as in a tepidarium. However, in Hearst’s complex there were no hot or cold baths as there were in the ancient complex. The Roman Pool complex was designed to contain an exercise room, sweat baths, a handball court and dressing rooms.
