The North Point Lighthouse (Wisconsin) has a long history of guiding mariners to Milwaukee Bay. Erected in 1887 and first lit in 1888, the 39-foot octagonal cast-iron tower replaced an 1855 cream city brick lightouse built too close to the eroding bluff. The Queen Anne style keeper's dwelling was built at the same time. In 1912, the tower was almost doubled to its present height of 74 feet by lifting the existing tower atop a new structure. This resulted in a light source 154 feet about the level of Lake Michigan visible up to 20 miles away. The United States Coast Guard took the light out of service in 1994. In 2003, the two-acre property was transferred to Milaukee County, the North Point Lighthouse Friends and Milwaukee County completed restoration of the light station in 2007.
The Point Bonita lighthouse sits on the tip of Marin County near the entrance to the Golden Gate Bridge.

A trip to Carmel, California meant a visit to Point Lobos, and an attempt at some Edward Weston-inspired photos of the famous state park.
Soldiers from the New Jersey Army National Guard and representatives from all 5 branches of the military participated in the "Salute To Service" presented by the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ before their game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The ceremonies were opened by an enlistment of new troops in the end zone, followed by jumpers from the United States Military Academy- West Point Parachute Team landing at midfield. The ceremonies concluded with a giant 50-yard flag being unfurled by representatives from each branch of service and an F-16 flyover from the New Jersey Air National Guard's 177th Fighter Wing, NJANG.

Whilst most of the UK was recording temperatures, at Spurn Point on the Yorkshire coast it was a beautiful 25 degrees, and great for walking. The remains of a wartime battery now on the beach.
Cistern for the steam powered fog horn. At least that's what they claim. I think it's actually a Fire Marble Dome with a Linking Book inside. If I could only figure out how to stop it from spinning...

On Feb. 28, 2013, JAXPORT's TraPac Container Terminal at Dames Point welcomed one of the largest vessels to ever call on Jacksonville's seaport. The 6,700 TEU (containers) MOL Maxim traveled from Southeast Asia through the Suez Canal and called on another U.S. east coast port before arriving at TraPac Friday afternoon. The Maxim is nearly 1,000 feet in length and at a breadth of 138 feet is too large to fit through the current Panama Canal locks. TraPac Vice President and General Manager Dennis Kelly says the Maxim and other larger ships calling on Jacksonville as part of a regular rotation through the Suez Canal clearly illustrate the opportunities ahead.
"This shows we have the big ships today. They are already coming here," said Kelly. "What we need now is a deeper harbor to enable them to load and unload even more cargo, to bring even more benefit to this region. The opening of the wider Panama locks in a couple of years will, of course, bring greater opportunities for Jacksonville, but clearly the Maxim and the other ships we are seeing coming to us through the Suez Canal now mean the industry already views us as a significant player."

The historic Victorian era station at Point Of Rocks, MD still looks fabulous in the late afternoon light although the signals and the ADA cabinet clutter the picture somewhat. Designed by E. Francis Baldwin and built by the Baltimore And Ohio Railroad in 1873. It is situated at the junction of CSX's Old Main Line and the Metropolitan Subdivision.

The 1991 action flick "Point Break" (top), Keanu's attempt at a real acting gig, (sorry Dude!), was shot in part in the L.A. area.
This is the Manhattan Beach Pier. In 1991, shortly after the filming of this movie, this pier was restored to it's original 1920's glory.
I went to Formby point on Sunday enroute to Crosby to look at the
Anthony Gormley statues, more of which later. We were just about to get in the car when I spied a couple of ladies taking photographs, I walked over and thought this fox was stuffed, it was literally 10 feet away from us. Apparently it is that used to humans it pretends to have a limp to gets food from passers by who feel sympathy for it...it has been doing this for four years!!!!.....it has even taught it's cubs to do this...amazing!!
Formed about 9 mya from sediment of Furnace Creek Lake, the Furnace Creek Formation was later covered by ash sediment from volcanic activity in the lack Mountains (in the distant left). Later uplift from the Black Mountains followed by the sinking of Death Valley from the creation of Lake Manly 22000 years ago tilted the formation. Erosion worked its way around the harder volcanic plugs to dissolve the Furnance Creek Formation, leaving the unworldly badlands of Death Valley. The Point is a popular tourist and photography spot and is named after Christian Zabriskie of the Pacific Coast Borax Company.

With its commanding view of Haro Strait and the Canadian Gulf Islands, Turn Point offers wonderful opportunities for photographers and visitors who appreciate nature and history. The nearby Canadian and Olympic Mountains provide wonderful scenic backdrops to this special area. The Turn Point Light Station, built in 1893, stands on the western most end of Stuart Island, providing light and reference to mariners of the Salish Sea. Turn Point is one of the best places on BLM-managed lands to see orca whales. Recreational activities include hiking, camping, boating, sea kayaking, watching wildlife, and viewing wildflowers.
Know Before You Go:
-The Turn Point site is open YEAR ROUND and a small interpretive museum operated by the Turn Point -Lighthouse Preservation Society is open daily from July to September.
-Turn Point is only accessible by water craft. Most visitors arrive via sea kayak or by private boats.
-No Fees
-On October 7, 2014, San Juan County became the first County in the U.S. designated as a voluntary “Leave No Trace” Area. Please help and practice LNT.
Directions:
Turn Point is on the western most end of Stuart Island and is only accessible by water. The Roche Harbor Resort boat ramp, located on San Juan Island is the nearest launch site. Local launch fees apply. Other private marinas are located throughout the San Juan Islands.
Point of Interest: An excellent spot for wildlife watching, Turn Point offers unobstructed views of Orca pods, sea lions and various birds.

Point Reyes Lighthouse perched above the Pacific Ocean. It's a short half mile hike to the lighthouse overlook from the parking lot and then 300 steps down to the lighthouse. Which means its 300 steps back up!

Point Malcolm lighthouse is on the channel between Lake Alexandrina and Lake Albert, and is the only inland lighthouse in the Southern Hemisphere
Pigeon Point Lighthouse on the Northern California Coast. I remember it when a person could go inside. It can still be saved with enough money.
