These daisy petals are actually a very deep red, I took this photo at dusk with a flash, so now they are pink.

Last year I planted a beautiful bush/tree in our backyard, cornus kousa. Sadly it did not bloom, so I was left to wonder about its beauty.
But this year I was not left to my imagination, for over a month now, it is blooming beautifully, I can hardly wait for the whole bush to grow bigger, its gonna be spectacular.

A little brighter than I originally wanted, but I'm happy with it. :)
This goes out to all my friends who really can sew: Emma, Christine, Hana, Piper, Bozena to name a few. And the daddy to whom I haven’t even had time to tell this story.
Madeline put on her ballet class pink tights and discovered there was a hole in the toes. A couple of holes, in fact. I offered that I could cut them to her ankle, and make those kind of tights, you know, the feetless kind. Don’t know what they are really called. “but then my feet will be cold,” she said, the practical-when-it-suits-her girl. “Well, I guess we could sew it.” I said. Not really knowing what I was getting myself into, and second guessing my ability when it was really 3 holes in the toe, in fact, there was not much toe left. And I’m not good at sewing. But once suggested to a 3 year old, any idea is hard to retract. We got out the pink thread and the needle and I started. “I want to sew,” Madeline then says.
I momentarily rethink my resolve that giving a 3 year old a needle was not a good idea. And then, I threw it out the window. My St Barth clarity gone with the vacation and return of major sleep deprivation. After all, I’ll help her. I thought.
So we, did the toe together. I held the tights tight and she pulled the needle threw in the spots where I pointed. Not badly either. (mended toe)
Then she says, “I want to do it by MYSELF.” The magic words. As we had discovered more holes higher up in the tights. What the hell, I thought. The worst that can happen was she’d prick her finger (I had already demonstrated how sharp the needle was) and her brother was asleep.
So she went at it. When she was finished, she showed it to me, and said, “There, see? Good as new.”
That’s my girl. Embroidery 101 coming up.

Dieses Exemplar habe ich noch nie so gesehen und nach Recherche im iNet habe ich nun folgendes raus bekommen: Das ist wohl eine Nymphe der grossen Goldschrecke. In diesem Stadium (Larve) kann diese Farbe wohl schon mal vorkommen - wenn auch sehr selten. Ob das nun alles stimmt, kann ich nicht beurteilen, da kenn ich mich zu wenig aus. Aber bestimmt handelt es sich hier um ein Mädchen :-)
Pink Bougainvillea flowers - loads of these gorgeous flowers to be seen in Montagu (Western Cape). I just realised my photostream is surprisingly lacking in pink, so I'll have to work on rectifying that!

I guess I am just not a very good gardener because even though I don't know that latin name, you would think I could tell you what the common name is! Planted two years ago, it's a perennial... at least I know that much!! ;-) It's very tiny.... like the size of my thumbnail. and pink. That is the extent of my knowledge!! Oh... and it blooms pretty much all summer into fall! :-)
