Brooches have a rich history that dates back to ancient times. Originally, they were used as practical items to secure garments. However, over time, they evolved into decorative jewelry worn by royalty, nobility, and commoners. In different cultures, brooches have taken on symbolic meanings and have been used to express status, identity, and beauty.

Macro Mondays - Pin Badge
Image measures less than 3" on the long side. Pin is 2" wide.
A gift from a friend in Juneau, AK. "The pin was individually cut from copper, shaped by hand, and "flame painted" with a welding torch. The color and pattern on each piece is unique and cannot be duplicated." Dave Stout, Alaskan Fire Copper Flame Painting
Happy Macro Monday!

not too long ago, I was addicted to quilting and went to many quilt shows... buying a pin was always a highlight of the day...
Wacka, wacka, wacka…
Bought this pin badge specially on the market the weekend. Unfortunately Pac-Man himself was nowhere to be seen but loved this red ghost!
I was torn how to present this, I got some great shots that really picked out the dimension and quality of the enamel but that then took away from the flat 8-bit look of the character! Opted for mostly flat and bokeh’d in a marble nemesis behind to add a bit of depth.
- many moons ago, this tiny brooch (3 cm diameter) silver with a moonstone, was a gift to me from two new friends in my first workplace
- years later, I gifted it to Clare, who was often making and giving me silver jewellery
- and now, of course, it has come back to me

This is a Stand Up to Cancer pin badge that I have had for many years. I usually have it pinned to my purse.
For this week's theme I have placed it on the 1 inch (1.54cm) neck of a coloured bottle.

"Collegium Sancti Petri Caeseriense"
"The seal of the college was designed in 1930. It is a peacock surmounting a rock, a couple of crossed keys, and the legend "in perpetuum." The peacock is symbolic of the soul finding immortality after death; the rock symbolizes St. Peter as the "rock" upon which the church was built; the keys represent the keys to heaven, and the words "in perpetuum," denote the hope of going on forever." - from the college website.
The St. Peter's colors are blue and white - the peacock is the school mascot.
The lapel pin is 17mm wide x 16mm high.

Macro Mondays: "Pin Badge"
I have so many pins and brooches like this one, which I have bought over the years! I use them on everything from scarves, hats, sneakers, headbands, blouses, pants, etc. Yes, it's a girly thing! 😊
A macro closeup of a beautiful Remembrance Poppy that is actually a badge (or pin) to be worn on Remembrance Sunday in memory of those fallen.
The only pin badge around here is my college sorority pin. College life...... really no responsibilities except to make good grades, no pressures overall and great friendships formed for life. Seems so long ago..........I received this pin in 1976. Yep, I am old! haha. The extended Greek letters show the chapter I pledged at.
It's already Monday... : )
HMM and I wish you all a great week !
*Fun Facts: Crows are incredibly intelligent birds with fascinating behaviors and adaptations. They possess the largest brain-to-body ratio of any bird and also exhibit complex social structures, including family bonds and the ability to remember individuals.
Pin Badge with the flag of St. Piran, the Cornish flag and The Stars and Stripes.

The Roots Canada clothing store was giving out these button badges in 2017 to celebrate Canada’s birthday and also 150 years of just being 'nice'. And I have to agree with this statement - we are definitely nice! :)
I hope everyone is having a great day...HMM!

This is an old pin I received as little when flying from my home city Gothenburg to Finland. Back in those days. late 80´s kids received toys and for instance "props" like this.
A dear memory and the size is about 4-5 cm.

Milou felt strange. She felt weirdly tiny, and as if she were hovering at a great height, being attached to... wait a minute! Was that Tintin's trench coat? How did she get there? And why? Was this a dream? She tried to move, to get off her beloved master's coat. But whatever it was that kept her in place didn't budge. Oh no! This was a proper nightmare! Was Tintin mad at her for dropping the message and taking the bone? Everything was good in the end; there was a happy ending, and it wasn't her fault! "Please, Tintin, let me down, I'm a good dog!" she yelped. From a distance, she heard a familiar voice, repeating her name. "Milou! Milou? Wake up, sleepy head. Professor Calculus called; he needs our help. Go and find Captain Haddock, we're off to a new adventure!" With a jolt of relief, she was on her four legs, shaking off the last remnants of that horrible dream, and she happily ran to her master, madly wagging her tail. Then she raced through Marlinspike Hall as if there was no tomorrow, barking: "Haddock, Haddock! A new adventure was waiting. Life was good.
I've always been a huge fan of the Tintin books (next to Asterix), especially Hergé's later work (and except for the first two books), but I'd always assumed that Snowy (in German: Struppi) was a male fox terrier. But when I learned that "his" original name was Milou, named after Hergé's first love, I wasn't so sure anymore. Milou sure is a boy, both as Snowy/Struppi, but as Milou? Dear French-speaking Flickr friends, please help me out with this, merci beaucoup :)
I have a few Tintin-related fangirl things, such as two Tintin figures and the moon rocket as key fobs, Snowy in the red racing car and Tintin as photographer as metal keyrings (actually on my keys for ages), Tintin and Snowy as fairly large, poseable dolls (only Tintin has articulating parts), and two pin badges, one of Tintin riding a motorbike, and the other one of Snowy with the bone. The badge on its own looked nice, but I wanted to add a story element, so I placed the key fob of standing Tintin with his coat on and hands in pockets, behind the Snowy badge. The first idea was to include Tintin's reflection, but the reflection was too long (or the tiny badge too small – or both), and it made the background too busy, so I "limited" the reflection to Snowy's.
It's a single shot, illuminated only from the left and right. Size info: The Snowy pin badge is 1,8 cm/0,7 inches long.

Macro Mondays theme: Pin Badge
Thank you everyone for your kind comments and favs. All are greatly appreciated. HMM
The #MacroMondays theme for tomorrow 6/9 is #pin/badge. Am not sure if one of my kids gave it to me or I discovered it at a yard sale, but I wore it proudly before I retired from teaching.

An informal portrait for my mum's 80th Birthday and showing her sense of humour in her expression. We had, of course, been laughing and joking before this shot which was taken just before we went out for a huge family meal for my mum's children, grand children and great grandchildren.
One year ago today my mum died in hospital after collapsing at home from a sudden and unexpected illness. I was unable to get there and be by her side being 300 miles away and unwell myself. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic I had not seen my mum in person for over 2 years when she passed but I had spoken to her once or twice a week for that whole time. Although she knew that she was loved and missed at that time it was painful not being able to give my mum a hug or to sit with her and natter over a cup of tea. I even missed her funeral due to Covid and illness.
Not a day goes by that I don't miss my dear mum. She is in my heart and mind every single day. She only visited me in Scotland once as my mum didn't travel well, but we had a lovely time up here and spent a day on the Isle of Arran. Back on the mainland we stopped, near to my new home, for a fish and chip supper by the beach. One of the best fish and chip shops I have found in Scotland that my parents remembered fondly and often remarked upon. The last thing my mum did for me was to send money for a special treat of those fish and chips as a home moving gift. Tonight I will be honouring that memory with some fish and chips from that very same chippy, right on the harbour front where the fish practically jump out of the boat and are cooked to order. Fresh as can be. I will watch the sun set for her.
I love you mum and I miss you enormously every single day.
Rest peacefully.
Pudsey Bear is the well-known, official mascot of the BBC charity, Children in Need and the BBC have an annual telethon in their efforts to raise money for it, accompanied by a host of celebrities who feature in sketches, comedy routines, challenges and music performances.
The charity uses all donations in improving the lives of disadvantaged children and young people throughout the U.K. and some of these feature in the programme to recount how their lives have been helped and supported by the charity.
The BBC's first broadcast appeal for children took place in 1927, in the form of a five-minute radio broadcast on Christmas Day. The first televised appeal took place in 1955 and was called the Children's Hour Christmas Appeal.
Pudsey Bear appeared in 1985, and instantly transformed the Children in Need brand. He was created by BBC designer Joanna Ball, and took his name from her home town in Yorkshire. It has never been released why he wears an eyepatch.
