Taken while kayaking in Broken Group Islands, Vancouver Island, Canada. The rock and trees are in the middle of the ocean being shaped by wind and sea. There is a bald eagle's nest tucked deep inside the tree.
I knew I posted a shot like this awhile back . Turns out it was around last Easter!! Went through the archives and found a different shot. Same bird? You should have seen me trying to get this shot. Pulled over on the side of the road. Police car goes by and slows up. Moved on when he saw the camera.Stayed for almost 45 mins waiting for the birds to land in front of me. I'm leaning up against my car, just waiting. Same cop comes slowly by. I put the camera up to my eye just so he would know what I'm doing. Don't know if it was legal to pull over where I was but he didn't say anything. What we do for shots.
A Flesh fly (Sarcophagidae sp.) gazing up at me.
As noted previously about these rather gross creatures, they lay live maggots directly onto rotting vegetation or rotting flesh and are generally quite unpleasant. Great eyes and aluminium face mask though.
