Siproeta stelenes (or malachite) is a neotropical brush-footed butterfly. The malachite has large wings which are black and brilliant green or yellow-green on the uppersides and light brown and olive green on the undersides. It is named for the mineral malachite, which is similar in color to the bright green on the butterfly's wings. The wingspread is typically between 8.5 and 10 cm. The malachite is found throughout Central and northern South America, where it is one of the most common butterfly species. Its distribution extends as far north as southern Texas and the tip of Florida, to Cuba, as subspecies S. s. insularis (Holland, 1916), and south to Brazil.
Adults feed on flower nectar, rotting fruit, dead animals, and bat dung. Females lay eggs on the new leaves of plants in the Acanthaceae family, especially ruellia. The larvae are horned, spiny black caterpillars with red markings.
of a wildflower I had posted before. Was waiting for a Bee,Butterfly or Bug to come along but to no avail. Maybe next time.
Unlike its more common totally pink coloured Crown of Thorns, this variety is creamish in colour with pinkish fringe. Found this hiding in the shade.

The long walk up to the main entrance to Monticello. Red Buds & Lilac were in full bloom. Beautiful spring day! Taken with Nikon D300, five pictures, processed with Dynamic Photo HDR and gently tonemapped.

I don't know any of these girls, but my 11-year old granddaughter is on the team (somewhere else on the field).
Blue skies
Smiling at me
Nothing but blue skies
Do I see
Bluebirds
Singing a song
Nothing but bluebirds
All day long
Never saw the sun shining so bright
Never saw things going so right
Noticing the days hurrying by
When you're in love, my how they fly
Blue days
All of them gone
Nothing but blue skies
From now on
