This year's hands-on activity involved students tossing frozen hot dogs onto a grid, counting the number which landed on a line, and using a formula to calculate pi - 3.14159.

After several rounds, the boys edged-out the girls at 3.06.

I posted this on Facebook for Pi day on 3.14 (obviously) and reused it today for St. Patrick's Day! Lime Meringue Pie from Safeway.

The kid in you takes over when you go to the Exploratorium. Don't fight it, just go with the flow. FUN!!

Yesterday (3-14-15) was Pi (3.14159265359......) Day (see: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pi ). So we went to the Exploratorium in SF to celebrate. It was our first visit to the Exploratorium since they moved to their new home, and it is a great space!! We had a lot of fun.

Watch the amazing mimes at Spring Break's 2011 Rock the Block!

Since today was Pie Day, I felt obligated to get some pie.

I made sourdough bagels and a pie for Pi-day

At 9:26:53 this morning, Captian Blind and his men entered the bakery and demanded their pies at a discount.

So the manager sold them for a pi-rate.

(Okay, I heard you all groan when you read the caption. Have a great weekend and enjoy your pi!)

My first 1080p video shot with my new Nikon D7100. I removed the audio track (which is now stereo, unlike the D3100) and replaced it with music. Music: Andy Summers "Peggy's Blue Skylight"

A logic puzzle with lights and switches.

Spring Break's 2011 Rock the Block was a huge success!

Happy Pi Day! Our local Baker's Square was offering a Pi Day special. In the interest of furthering math education, we had to take part. For the kids.

Reviewing books (chapters) are good conversation starters and time well spent. We are helping introduce new material and build libraries with math ideas throughout!

For Pi Day and my daughter whose birthday falls on 3/14. :) She loved the necklace by the way.

Para celebrar el Día de Pi y para mi hija cuyo día de cumpleaños es en el tercer mes, y el día 14. :) A ella, le encantó el collar. Es un juego de palabras en inglés con humor matemático.

It was funny to explain that to the confectioner! :)

A spectacular pie on level with if not better than the one I made last year. Now, making a pie to top the pie-rate ship is no easy task. For this year's pie, I decided to go with a pie-ranha plant.

HAPPY PI DAY!

So how does one celebrate this Nerd holiday? By eating some pie. I prefer blueberry, but cherry is a good option.

A local pizza place is offering $3.14 off any pie ordered today.
