first try at photograms, done in as photography class

Photogram backlit from a lightbox, overlaid with textured paper, coloured gel, and skeleton leaves, and then photographed.

Der Kirschlorbeer ist grün und dicht

und nimmt Passanten jede Sicht,

sie können nicht entdecken:

Was ist hinter den Hecken?

So denkt der Gärtner Gröher

und macht die Hecke höher.

The cherry laurel, green and dense

blocks any view behind the fence;

The cherry laurel, very kind:

it hides all things that are behind.

What lies behind the hedges hidden?

The hedge says: Looking is forbidden.

Вишнёвый лавр зелён и густ,

прохожим заслоняет куст;

никто не видит, что за ним,

что скрыто за кустом густым.

Так мыслит садовод Горыше:

«Пусть станет изгородь ещё выше».

Kirschlorbeer

The cherry laurel

The cherry laurel is part of the ‘green desert’.

It serves as a privacy screen or ornamental plant; ecologically, it is virtually worthless.

At the same time, it crowds out flowering shrubs and species-rich hedges that provide food and habitat for insects, birds and other animals.

A photogram from my decorum series.

Crappy quality, oooold, and it was scanned, but yeah.. a photogram :D

Simply made by the sitter laying their head on the easel of a colour enlarger, and exposing them for 10 seconds. All colour variants are completely natural, no editing involved! The colour variants come form the colour of a persons hair, their skin tone, their clothing, and the distance they were from the paper. Straight from the RA4 print machine! Lovely!

what i've been doing in photo class so far.

Experimenting with creating photograms

Anyone know what they are ?

This is a photogram (something else I learned about in my otherwise utterly pointless photography class). It's made by simply placing objects on a piece of photographic paper and exposing the paper to light, then simply developing the paper. This turned a few heads when I showed it in class because no one could guess how I actually made it, the reason being: shadows on photographic paper appear white when developed, so how could I have made my hand black? And then people looked at the 'cracks' on the hand, and were further perplexed.

It was simple, really, I made one photogram of my hand, developed it, cut out my hand, put the outline (notice the edges) and a piece of overhead transparency (with 'cracks' drawn on it) over another sheet of photo paper and exposed and developed again.

split developed photogram. cleaning out my office and found these in a box. it's like seeing an old friend again.

I made this about 10 days ago but have only just got around to firing up the scanner.

It made me wonder about what I'd say if I was ever posed the question "What do you do for relaxation?" - my answer on this particular day would have been that I go into a Darkroom and play with feathers! I just hope I managed to find them all when I'd finished because they were floating everywhere.

This is my first test photogram.

title "Untitled"

Wondered what would happen if I inverted the photograms I have already made.

Taken with a photogram and processed.

Positive and negative photograms.

The black version is made using a sheet of tracing paper with black ink sketch for the contact print (8 second exposure), the white version then uses the black version as a contact negative (60 second exposure). The curl of the photo paper has led to loss of focus in areas.

project for photography class, (apologies for scanner quality)

Photogram made using doll toy and colored saran wrap, the "fire."

A digital photograph of a darkroom print.

A simple photogram of a notebook, scissors, beads and wire. I love each object and what effect they all create
