Here's my second photography homework assignment... to make a collage out of at least five photograms.
Best seen as large as possible!
What is a photogram? Well, it's where you put objects or an object on black and white photo paper and expose it to light and then develop it. Some people had themes for their work... mine was just random stuff pasted together.
This was for my alternative processes class, we had to make photograms ON negatives and then print them. I put dried flowers on medium format color. Used a flash. Scanned the negative.
Yepp.
Spaghetti, hemp, coffee beans, some glass rectangle thingie, Chris' keys. Color photography is so confusing but I love it!

These are some photograms I made while working on a photography communications project. None of these will probably make it to my final project, but I do think they're pretty cool lookin'.
I won't spoil it for you by telling you the objects I used in each, but I'm sure you can figure it out for most of them. ;o)
A bit more successful this time.
This time I coated Lyson 210lb smooth matte Inkjet paper, (yes, inkjet), straight out of the packet, with cyanotype sensitizer. Exposed to cloudy summer sky for 30 mins. Washed under clean, slightly alkaline water, then gave a 2 min bath in a moderate citric acid solution.
Levels only very slightly altered in PS., not to detract from the original.
My first photogram ever. Photograms, in case you are unfamiliar with them, are when you take photopaper and set objects on it, then shine a light on it so that the objects' shadows come out in negative.
On May 11th I started my graduate program and my first class was a special topics in photography.
This was not on the top of my list because photography has never really "clicked" with me (he he).
First week we have been experimenting with Pinhole Cameras and Photograms! Here are some of the ones I made today.

This is a photogram I made today using broken charcoal.
I took a photo of it on my iPhone.
I'm loving iOS 5 with the + volume button as the shutter release! So much more stability.
This is an image from my "watergrams" series. This is a cameraless image, made in a wet darkroom. Nothing digital about this, except for the selective toning to separate the female body from all the rest.
One of the first photographs created was a photogram. I love re-visiting the historical and simple process from time to time. The simplicity I find refreshing and the chemical processing in the darkroom is almost a meditative state for me.
Photograms were the first thing I learned in darkroom and I enjoyed doing them a lot. Finally scanned them.
