for our second day, we decided to visit another Greek island. we took a one and a half hour ferry to Aegina, an island nearby Athens which was actually rather large in size. we arrived midday and searched for a place to eat lunch. we picked a restaurant off the main road and found that the menu was entirely in Greek and the waitress spoke poor English. it was quite the experience ordering our meals. thankfully, the waitress was cooperative, helpful and very kind. she even gifted us with a sweet wine at the end of the meal. afterward, we decided to take a short horse carriage ride along the marina. we explored the island for the remainder of the day until it was time to board our ferry heading back to the port of Piraeus. once back in Plaka, it was dinner time and i wasn't joking about eating a gyro every day because that's exactly what i ate.
Pippin has covered some of the wallspace in his room with tickets from concerts and other events dating back several years, which I think is really neat.
Angela Norwood gave me all these tips on what to do when in Chicago back when I thought that I was going to road trip through it with Rebecca at the end of last summer, back before we went drinking in a park and Michelle got kicked out of Winnipeg and booted back to Vancouver, before Rebecca got so mad that she just drove home to Toronto direct.
So this was my first time in Chicago and all I got to see was the airport. I remember distinctly overhearing a girl talking on her cell to someone telling them how her souvenir of her trip was the tan she had gotten :P
We decided on our final day in Tokyo to go hunting for high-tech stuff and robots, so made our way to the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation (Miraikan), which was amazing. The thing that really set it apart from places like London's Science Museum was the number of staff there employed as "science communicators", there to explain things to all the museum-goers. This was Pippin's favourite exhibit: a model internet working on black and white billiard balls that rolled around between these turrets encoding addresses and messages for four or five terminals where people (mostly kids) could compose, receive and send messages.
When the hubs and I can't have midnight waffles, we have 9pm pancakes instead. Not quite the Andrewsaurus recipe but it'll do.

yesterday, we went to home depot to try to pick new 'motion sensitive' lighting for outside our house. ever since the break-in, i now want to take every available security precaution. even though in the middle of the day, these would do no good. which do you think is best? leave a note.
