4/25/13. Quick walk to the old driving range this afternoon. This grows outside the range, next to a church. It's quite lovely.
Oscar escaped, and had an argument with the wire joining the phone socket to the router, which he clearly won. There followed an internet outage till Pippin stripped the ends using a craft knife, twisted them together, and bundled the join up in electrical tape.. it's been fine since then :-) There are also meaures to stop the degus getting anywhere near those wires next time they manage to get loose in the living room!
Sophia took me along to a service at the Orthodox Church in North Oxford. There was singing almost all the way through from the little choir, and the priest too. The Church caters for Russian and Greek Orthodox people, so bits of the service were in Russian -- apparently on other Sundays there are bits in Greek :-) One of my favourite bits was when one little girl was lifted up to kiss the icon at the right of the picture, and stuck her tongue out to lick it..
Sir Ken Robinson was the keynote speaker for the Canadian Symposium on Arts and Learning. The keynote was hilarious and poignant.
What most impressed me was the book signing afterward. Sir Ken made a point of talking to and making a personal connection with every person in the rather long line. He's a very generous man. We talked briefly about his two TED Talks and my friend Brian Metcalfe took this picture.
An early morning downpour at the resort in Hamilton Island doesn't stop people from using the pool. This is the tropics.
This little guy, no longer than and inch and a half, posed for me until I could get just the right photo and then he jumped away.
This is part of a project that won the biggest prizes in the Engineering department's fourth year project displays. It's all to do with structures that don't have strains in their surfaces...
Don't feel very well so have the day off work. Spend it in bed sleeping, cuddling with the dogs and watching downloaded TV.

My two favorite girls. Becca and I celebrated our 5th anniversary today.
It's roasting hot so everyone strips out of their funeral clothes and heads back to my Aunty's for a celebration of my Gran's life that goes wellllll into the night! it's a classic evening - only marred by our car getting broken into (although all they stole was my Gran's funeral service sheet, the reading I did and our SodaStream gas cylinder!).
147/365 Trying to make my bookcases look less crowded. This is afterwards. I have a lot of books. ;)
