i was awake at 7:30 and on a mission to photograph the Eiffel Tower at sunrise. i got myself all ready and my dad was nice enough to join me on this endeavour. unfortunately, it was drizzly and very foggy out. you couldn't even see the top of the tower because it was completely under the cloud. as much as i wanted to photograph it under the morning light, this was an acceptable alternative and just as aesthetically appealing. it took us about an hour to walk to the Champs de Mars because i was photographing along the way. after another hour, we returned to the apartment for breakfast and i took a short snooze until lunchtime. we all got ready and headed out for the Montmartre to see Sacre Coeur and wander the hilltop neighborhood. i immediately fell in love upon reaching the surface from the metro. the roads are narrower, made of cobblestone and every shop and brassiere is so cute and decorated in the French style. we walked along the street, poking our heads into bookshops, buying little cards at some stores and admiring the window displays of bakeries. then we walked up the steps to the basilica and walked inside to experience another beautiful church interior. on the road just below Sacre Coeur is a Christmas market with wooden stands and lights, like the German ones. it was very small but the most similar to the true German Christmas market i have seen. naturally, we stopped for crepes before continuing on down the hill where we encountered a square full of artists. there were so many beautiful pieces but i don't have the space to carry it back with me. so we just looked around for a bit and then made our descent to find the Moulin Rouge. i have to admit that i was disappointed by the windmill but i got the photo i wanted and will just have to appreciate it through the movie (it happens to be one of my favorites which is why i think i was not so impressed). then we hopped back on the metro and returned to the apartment for dinner and to prepare for tomorrow's travel day to Sweden.

Jabberwocky brough his pyrgraphy machine to the ousfg craft day, along with a wooden board on which we could try it out. The little celtic-knot design was me, and that's Thea shading in her sun/flower design with the curved "spoon" shading nib.

Notice tonight when I get back from my run that I have a very tall flower growing in one of my pots. It's such a beautiful vibrant colour. Hang outside with Archie and Gracie until the builder leaves - Gracie hates him!

For my 365 project and my love of cold stone ice cream. :)

Thanks to one of my lovely flickrfriends, I was craving cold stone's Strawberry Banana Rendezvous with cake batter ice cream. So today, I went and got some. Yum.

I am, however, now readdicted. That's no good.

I am now specializing in awkward band portraits.

DILLINGER FOUR - "Portrait of the Artist as a Fucking Asshole"

Could this be the end? Alert the media

Holler out message send and pass the bottle now

I'll wreck today not unlike the way you saw me yesterday

I'll wreck today and double over laughing with the pain

Check those fears at the door and hang around a while

I'll lose this heart from my sleeve just to see what burns

Is this a question of what fell or just a statement of what sells

And can anyone really say there's no free drinks in hell?

I'm neither a poet nor a babysitter

But I got a guitar and a way to kill an hour now

I got no fucking pity for the fools who broke their eyes

Tring to break a whole culture down to size

Check those fears at the door and hang around a while

I'll lose this heart from my sleeve just to see what burns

Is this a question of what fell or a statement of what sells

And can anyone really say there's no stiff drinks in hell?

This national chemistry, it's bigger than you and me

While fighting for control now have we lost touch with who we are

Do you love telling your war stories while hiding your scars?

In my mailbox

Quite possibly the biggest and most unattractive pads known to woman. Way to go, Poise. If my sink springs a leak (not a euphemism), I'll know what I can use instead of a towel!

Hank Green pulled lots of cute faces at me and my camera when I was accompanying Tom in the book-signing queue after the "The Fault in Our Stars" event with John Green, at which Hank was the guest star :-)

The trees on Gloucester Green looking distinctly flame-coloured. This was my third lunch out of the office in a row, this time with Matthew (former tute partner and now co-worker!). I'm getting used to lunchtime breaks now!

After a morning of eating and an afternoon of napping Rob and I get motivated to go for a run. It is my first (and quite possibly my last) one. We go around the lake and while it is beautiful it is so incredibly hard. I am shattered afterwards. It's too hot for this sort of nonsense!

Sunday, 6 February 2011.

This weekend I:

* Took a lovely Sunday afternoon nap

* Made a chickpea casserole and salad with produce from our garden

* Went for my first run with Rob

* Went shopping with Mum for a gift for Geoff

* Bought a bright red clock for the living room

* Played "Sweet Valley High" and "Who Am I?" with Rob

* Caught snippets of the rugby sevens

* Made delicious guacamole and ate it on the deck while reading my book

* Went out for brunch for Geoff's birthday - we sat outside and I had ricotta hot cakes

* Watched "Mad Men"

* Read the Sunday paper and ate a bag of milk bottle lollies Rob bought for me

* Wore hardly any clothes because it was SO hot!
