Shadow Mapping

Mapping is a form of art that, when choreographed along with music can be an effective mood enhancer in night clubs making it a mesmerising experience whilst dancing.
This was a personal project of a series of images created by projecting light onto a naked body. I was inspired by the use of digital mapping by artists such as Bruno Ribeiro and designer Ying Gao who use techniques that play with our perception of light and movement. In this particular series I used the work of Kit Webster's digital video to sculpt the model's body. The projections created interesting shapes and shadows on the body allowing me to visualise how these patterns could be translated into textiles and garments.

So today I went to an arranged date with my friend and her boyfriend Sean who was my model, My friend brought her daughter Camille along who let me take her picture and thanks to her confidence for letting me photograph her without her wig, doesn't she look gorgeous! These were taken at various locations around the town in Stirling and inside the old arcade and the thistle shopping center I am very happy with the results and the photos above are my favorite out of the many I took.

Last day of feb, last day of my little project, I know I started late so should really add a few days to it but my to do list is v big and to be honest I find it hard doing a photo a day. Think when evenings are longer I may tackle another little project, maybe a weekly one ;-)

Roman Corkery of Planet Caravan Tattoos prepares to start the colour work on the tattoo he is working on by setting up his tattoo gun.
In this section I have decided to display my active projects as a way to illustrate alternative constructive applications to a costume. This design was based off of the character Boba Fett from Star Wars and was an exercise that took up to a year to complete (in-between work and collage)
I wanted to create this as a way to develop my understanding of armour and props. Taking the thematic and overall rustic/weathered science fiction look of the films and create an authentic character that would fit into the Mandalorian culture.
The fabric elements of this costume was a mixture of recycled cloths and materials to create a layered look that draws parallels to the nomads of the eastern regions, roaming the deserts. Taking this outlook from the in-universe Tuskin Raiders, utilising a scavenged, heavy layered fabric look.
The armour was created by a long prosses of 3D printing. each section was up to six hours of printing time. After the initial models were made I applied spot/knifing putty to act as a filler to then sand out the layering lines of the model. The sections were then primed with a black base to then apply silver. Sections were then masked up and the coloured elements were applied and sanded to create a weathered metallic look. I then applied a watered acrylic airbrush over the sections to create a stained look and pronounce a greater depth in the armour, and subsequently create a used look. This is equipment and is used on the regular, so natural ware and tare is expected.
I was happy overall with the presentation of this costume, however in future I might redo the metallic paint, in favour of more of a chrome look. I would also redesign the thigh pieces to be larger and have a more interesting shape. This prosses allows myself to then set into creating a new costume, building upon what worked and what I could expand further.
I wanted to tell a story with this costume. I wanted to illustrate the journey of this character and include small elements that, to this character, creates meaning and sets the characters development into motion. I wanted him to be a gunslinger a character that is defined by his own laws and reforms a sense of duty, he's an honourable rough. Each dent and scratch of paint could tell a story, you can tell by the costume that he knows the game, he knows what's at stake. I included a small crystal necklace (Made out of resin) which acts as a memento, a moment that defines his character. Possibly a promise. Or a warning
The combo pack for the Swamp Thing release. These are one of my most popular designs ever but due to the incredible amount of time required to produce them I never made them available to the public, they were originally just painted as a personal project.

Description: This is my artwork for the Personal Project in IBMYP two years ago. The topic of my Personal Project is "Can I design the most beautiful and comfortable ballet tutu for a little ballet dancer?" I have decided to choose this topic for several reasons. Firstly, I love ballet and I have been dancing since I was four-years-old. Every time I dance, I enjoy every moment and forget about all the sad things that happened to me. People around me always ask why I love dancing that much, and my answer will always be ‘dance is my life and I can’t live without it’. I love the customs, the makeup, the point shoes…Everything about ballet, I just love it. Therefore, I decided to create a perfect ballet dancing tutu for my future daughter. Since I was young, I find it fascinating how things work and how this passion of mine has never died. Throughout the project, I have learned more about the textile and design, as well as the processes that are behind the construction of these creations. Such as the use materials in tutus.
