Its quite a climb to this amazing lookout in Halls Gap in the Grampians. Rained all the way up to here - walkers going back down kept saying tit was fogged over and cloudy with no view. Glad we persevered! It started to clear just as we got to the summit.

The grasses were trying to take over our path but we persevered.

I spent the last 5 days wandering around the woods of Northeast Pennsylvania hiking and shooting fall color since we were robbed of our Autumn in Washington State due to fires, drought, smoke and overall climate change devastation that is threatening to take all that we have in the PNW. But I had to have an Autumn. As some of you know, Fall is my thang:) I pretty much put all of my photography eggs into one Fall Color Basket. So, there was no way I was letting the apocalyptic weather in Washington take Fall from me. I had to hike up and down some of the steepest and rockiest and slipperiest terrains to get my fix. And my legs fell off around mile 5 on the "back up" the trail. But I persevered. So we will call this little Beauty, "Perseverance Falls" ~ Happy Waterfall Wednesday! (I told ya'll I'd be back:)

I entered this image into a print competition at my camera club this evening. I didn't go as I don't really enjoy the experience of the judging so I have no idea how it did in terms of scoring. I'm assuming not very good. At any rate I put this one in just to confuse the judge a little as I'm sure that he or she would not know what to make of it. It was taken a couple of years ago and I remember I took along some A4 sized cards with a kind of mottled reflective surface on one side. I then curled the card behind the mushrooms to create that eerie background look and used a little led light panel to light the scene. Fingers crossed it didn't get the lowest score of the night... lol

UPDATE: Well, I wasn’t entirely wrong with my prediction. This finished joint second last (tied with another of my images for that spot!) with only one image scoring less points. 😣

Attempting to impale its prey on a rather blunt twig. It persevered for some time before it managed to wedge it in the crook and started to feed.

The Perseverance I actually want to mention is the one roaming Mars at the moment. Event easily overshadowed by the things happening in the world.

A Polynesian legend tells the story of Paiheotuu, a brave little heron who triumphed over a giant heron.

In the legend, Otuu nunamu, a big heron, had kidnapped the wife of King Tuoropaa. The king sent messengers to gather the herons to fight the giant, but they were all afraid. Only Paiheotuu, the little heron, accepted the challenge.

Despite several violent expulsions, Paiheotuu persevered. He fought bravely, repeatedly piercing the giant's stomach until he finally swallowed him whole.

After freeing the king's wife, all the herons proclaimed him king, recognising him as a great warrior who had done what all the others had failed to do.

This legend recalls David's battle with Goliath and symbolises the triumph of courage and determination over brute force !

Happy Sunday to all artists 😉

Now, im not normally in the habit of meeting strange men at 7am on a Saturday morning, but it was great to hook up with Norm and James this morning on Loch Ard, the light was poor until we moved down to the end of the loch , and we eventually saw a bit of cloud break and sun... but I persevered with my long exposure filter to get a bit of texture in the clouds...

I was on the look-out for these on my last couple of visits to Sandy Camp Road, but only had a couple of isolated sightings. Yesterday, they were knee-deep! Persevere!

Each morning, I typically read a number of newpapers while enjoying my morning coffee. I just couldn't do this today: too much disturbing news, ranging from the anxiety-producing to the utterly apocalyptic. Instead, I decided to post this image, one that always reminds me of the power of resilience.

This tree was found while hiking Paradise Canyon, just outside of St. George, Utah. I've hiked this place many times, and almost always photograph this tree as I'm passing by it. It's old, probably 100's of years old, and it clearly has suffered from the trials and tribulations brought to it by fate. But it's still alive. It has persevered.

I think it's a Bur Oak, but I'm not sure, and that doesn't bother me.

The waterfront at beautiful Patonga on the Central Coast of New South Wales is more or less the end of the coastal road where it meets the barriers of Broken Bay and the mouth of the Hawkesbury River. This is a delightful small town and we were so glad we persevered through the busy roads of urban Central Coast to get there.

As you can see, it's a fishing village with several prawn trawlers moored offshore while the ferry waits to cross to the other side of the Hawkesbury and Broken Bay and terminates at the back side of Palm Beach, Barrenjoey Headland and Pittwater which essentially form the northern reaches and beaches of suburban Sydney. If you are looking for a fine area for a quiet holiday, this is it. We had to pass through Brisbane Water National Park on the final leg of the journey, full of the early wildflowers of late winter.

What looks like a graveyard for a few trees still harbours life as seen by the flourish of coppery leaves. I will be revisiting this area once the new buds start to take hold to see if this tree is still persevering. Taken in Kingsfield Wood, Buckinghamshire.

My wife Fran and I, along with our good friends Kevin and Bill, spent the day at this 16,000 acre park less than 2 hours north of our homes. We had a ton of fun and were fortunate to find and photograph all 4 of our target birds; this handsome Blackburnian Wabler, Black-throated Green Warbler, Chestnut-sided Warbler and Blue-headed Vireo, plus a few surprises. Being able to recognize the songs and calls of the various birds is a tremendous help in locating them. Have a great weekend all my Flickr friends.

Thanks to all who take the time to view, comment on and favor my images. It is very much appreciated.

I arose early this morning and travelled to the Vermilion Lakes, just outside the town of Banff, in Canada's Banff National Park. I had hoped to catch the sunrise, and was discouraged by some low-hanging cloud and light rain. I decided to persevere, though, and was rewarded with this sight.

After cresting Sherman Hill, UP's Denver - Green River slop freight passes Tie Siding with SP patch 6379 in the lead. This train had some trouble making it up the hill, and for a moment it looked like they would stall before the summit. However, they persevered and made it just in time for glorious evening light along the Overland Route.

Although I am pretty guilty of wanting to photograph birds in sunny conditions - an overcast sky can often give nicer results. As I trudged the final half mile to where these Snow Buntings were camped, with plans of some sunset golden hour shots, the clouds rolled in. But I had come this far so persevered.

The key thing with these birds and anything feeding on the beach is to get as low as possible to try and blur out the background and foreground. So I spent an hour crawling around on the wet sand.

In bright sun there is a lot more harsh contrast on the plumage and in the case of these Snow Buntings, the white bits can easily be over exposed.

Great view

This was to be an easy walk just for warm-up. Starting at about 1150m (3773 ft), and climbing on a wooden mountainside for 2 hours up to an altitude of 1850m (6070 ft), I'll remember this climb !

But on top, the view of the valley and surrounding mountains was prodigious, we did well to persevere, we were almost to go back.

I composed this image thinking that the boulders almost looked like stepping stones heading out towards the milky, subtle sunset. The colours of the sunset had yet to develop into their deep pinks and blues. My feeling at this point was that this might have been the pinnacle of light on offer, so I persevered and hoped for more intense light to come.

Compared to the conventional temporary spare wheel, the folding bike, the tire flank of which fits between the rim flanges once folded in the middle, has the advantage that it is approved for a top speed of 100 km / h due to the stiff original or special rim and still takes up less space than a complete spare wheel. The disadvantage is that the folding tire first has to be inflated before use, which is why a small compressor powered by 12 V was supplied with these vehicles.

Most of the US has been dealing with snow, some areas are measuring it in feet. Winter offers such wonderful opportunities for photos if you can persevere through the cold and snow.

You are trying to keep looking for light even in the middle of your fear and paralyzing uncertainty. And here in the midst of the struggle the light is beautiful. While it doesn’t erase the pain and difficulty you experience it’s such a blessing and victory that you persevere and your intense struggles didn’t completely keep you from noticing the light and taking in its beauty.

A few months back I spent a wonderful weekend with a dear friend, who has the most amazing 90 acre property in Mansfield, Victoria.

On this particular morning we were up before dawn and out while it was still dark, making our way to the river, where this photo was taken. The birds were chirping, kookaburras laughing, and the morning was coming to life.

I remember it vividly because I had woken with a horrible bout of vertigo and subsequent nausea and felt incredibly unwell. My friend had suggested we turn back but I pushed through it and persevered, and was so happy I did as it was the most magical morning.

Initially first light didn't offer any hope or promise of what was to come, infact it was quite dull and grey and it was quite wet underfoot too.

As the sun began to make an appearance, everything changed and the sky filled with colour and light and the most memorable start to the day . . . the sun's light and warmth made everything that was wet glisten and sparkle in the early morning light.

Sadly the rest of the day was cut short by the vertigo which refused to subside but I was thankful for this beautiful, even if somewhat dizzy, start to the day.

I waited and waited for the sun to break through the clouds enough to illuminate the rock faces on the canyon walls. Perseverence was rewarded with a momentary break before the sun was shrouded for good this morning.

This stitched image (they all are, by the way) was plagued by some very localised, drifting mist patches. The five separate images used were therefore compromised in terms contrast consistency. I've persevered in attempting to iron this out, but the result is never going to fully eradicate the problem, alas.

“Come to Crosby,” they said. “See the famous statues, brainchild body casts of one of the world’s leading sculptors, eye catching and thought provoking as they gaze enigmatically out to sea. Then take a photograph of the sewage pipe instead.” And there was the word “No,” emblazoned upon the object of my attentions. What can it mean? Obviously I haven’t troubled myself too much in seeking the answer with the assistance of Google - that would almost spoil the fun wouldn’t it? What were we doing here? An equally valid question that I was having trouble answering as another blast of wind came hammering down the beach from the direction of Blackpool and beyond, carrying a billion droplets of cloudburst in its fury. This was a tough outing back at the coast, after four relatively agreeable days in the gentler climes of the Peak District. Just last night we had enjoyed a glowing sunset at Roach End Barn, soft orange light filling the horizon as the first instalment of our adventure came to its conclusion. But this morning all of that had changed, a steady drizzle building into something rather more forthright as we approached the Merseyside coast. By the time we arrived at Crosby, the warm May sunshine of recent days had fizzled out, extinguished by a weather system that marched in from the north, sending temperatures plummeting and raincoats rustling as we took our chances on the beach.

I love moody conditions. I don’t even mind a white featureless sky if I think I can use it. Rain is often an ally if tackled with the right mindset. Often, but not always, and this was starting to feel like one of those “not always” moments. I’d made a conscious decision to use the telephoto lens for this shoot, and once that particular bargain had been struck, there was no going back. And while this was giving me the compositions I’d been hoping for, the wind and rain were combining to make taking photographs very difficult, especially long exposures with a hefty focal length. I’d already lost a lens cloth, which had ghosted away on the wind without me even noticing its urgent departure, and the makeshift bin liner rain protection had failed at the first attempt to use it. With my back to the weather I could shoot directly south with reasonable results, but pointing the camera out to sea was going to be a bit of a challenge. Especially when the lens hood was going to be needed to have any chance of escaping with something more than a collection of drizzly smudges for my efforts. A big tottering assembly on a windy beach with a grumpy old soul doing his best to protect it with his not very imposing bulk. A portable brick wall or the front row from the local rugby team might have been handy here today. Even one of Mr Gormley’s sculptures, if strategically placed, might have helped, but none of them were willing to abandon their positions and lend me a hand. I asked one of them whether it was a case of upsetting the aesthetics, but he ignored me and carried on watching whatever had been holding his attention out there on the Irish Sea for all of these years. He didn’t even blink. It was taking a while to get into a rhythm here, but despite the conditions, the possibilities seemed almost without limit.

And if you don’t keep trying, you won’t get anything at all, so without the assistance of anyone or anything else, I persevered. Twenty of thirty failures would be fine - only one of them needed to pass the blur test. Just a brief pause in the Arctic blast and things might be ok. By now the rain had done everything it was going to, and I wasn’t going to get any wetter. But I was getting hungry - we hadn’t stopped for lunch on the way here from Buxton and the afternoon was ticking by on this freezing cold expanse. I carried on for as long as I could, conscious that Dave and Lee were almost certainly waiting in the car. Eventually the time to retreat had arrived. It was difficult to tell from the back of the camera, but hopefully at least some of the shots I’d taken would be passable.

Happily, it seemed that persistence had paid off. Somehow, but don’t ask how, I managed to come away with one acceptable long exposure of the rickety old structure and the mid-tide ladder to the sea. I never even noticed the simple one word command on the subject itself until reviewing the raw files later on. Does it say “yes” when the sun is shining? Does whoever drew the short straw from among the bright eyed young apprentices at the local council have to paddle out and change the sign each time the weather takes a turn? Why does the sewage outlet temple vaguely resemble a large plastic water bottle? On reflection, I don’t want to know - I kind of like the mystery.

Every day is a new beginning; persevere, and there is still beautiful scenery ahead.

life can be a bit rocky sometimes...push on through and Bloom anyway! :)

The Petrified Sand Dunes at Snow Canyon State Park made me feel like I was on Mars. Despite the 99 degree temps, we persevered.....lots of water, carbs, and sugar treats. It was a dry 99......:).

ITALIANS DO IT BEST

Italian cars, specifically luxury and sports cars, maintain a global reputation for speed, design and beauty.

Beginning in 1884 when Enrico Bernardi constructed the tricycle car running on petrol fuel, the Italian automobile industry started its long and rich journey in the transportation industry.

In perfect Italian fashion, the history of its car manufacturing reads like a soap opera including tales of mergers and acquisitions attempting to deflect the attention away from the designers.

However, through a difficult financial period, the industry persevered and continues to deliver high-quality, powerful and beautiful cars.

Restoring old photos takes a lot of time and skill and I’m just at the start of that learning curve. With badly deteriorated slides, it’s very often a trade off between sharpness and noise, the latter resulting from uneven fading of individual film grains. Also, uneven fading over larger regions of the image presents major problems with colour balance as faded regions often loose colour unevenly. Still, I will persevere
