I adore snapdragons because they still stay around after the geese have gone
Conditions weren't good, a jumpy sky and tiny Mars at an angle where any heat from a neighbour's roof would also distort the image, but I was determined to 'persevere' and capture this image on the night that the Perseverance rover landed successfully on Mars.

This bird was one of about 50 trying to get the bread I was feeding them on the beach. It was his/her perseverance that won the day. While hovering above my head for about 8 full minutes, this one managed to get the most from me

I spent five days in Cape Town last week (2014) and it rained every day on and off (more on than off). I had limited spare time but carried my faithful Canon 6D and tripod in the boot every day. On Thursday afternoon (day 4) after work but before sunset it was a choice between grabbing a quick 45 min shoot in between the rain & then driving home 2 hours in the dark / spitting rain / through mountain passes, or driving straight home in the light. I had waited for 4 days for this opportunity so chose the former. It wasn't the most spectacular sunset but the location evoked a sense of deep gratitude in me. This photo is the third of that shoot and I am really happy that I stayed (y).

Nelson from South Africa used to import shoes till jealous neighbors burned down his shop. He now came for a better life to New Zealand but the struggle continues, at the moment he sleeps in his car after having to leave his house. Welcoming, eager to learn and sincere.

After several trips out at too-early-o-clock, only to find the skies grey and uninteresting, I was sorely tempted to stay in bed this morning. In the end, I decided to drag myself out and was rewarded by the god of photographers with a beautiful sky. Oh yes, and the obligatory wet feet...
The Skeen School, once educating children around the local area, continues to stand tall and proud. Within the confinements of academia, such academics once taught were arithmetic, reading and writing. Now [slowly] withering away at the edge of a wheat field, instead of providing adolescent moments to the youth, the former one-room school house serves its purpose of storing farming equipment.

"Sole Purpose - Jogging Shoeprints" by Patti Deters. First assignment for Kim Klassen's pse class. I used one of her textures too, which I finally figured out how to do (sort of), along with the down-loaded font. This poor little rose was still trying to bloom when we got hit with snow in December, very unusual for southeastern Virginia.
You have to admire the trees and plants that grow in adverse conditions. It's amazing what little they can subsist upon. I spotted this tree in Arches National Park last year, and was suitably impressed by its perseverance.

When you live in Northern Lower Michigan you get used to this sort of thing, Old Man Winter coming back in April is like a jealous girlfriend trashing your apartment just for spite. We will, however, like the Dude, abide.
I haven't been to High Beeches since that soggy morning last month when I watched the heavy horses harrowing the wild flower meadow. The autumn colours are just beginning to come through and in a couple of weeks the garden will look spectacular. Flowers are in much shorter supply at this time of year, so bees are having to work harder to find pollen. It was lovely to see the Scabious at High Beeches, which was playing host to numerous bees and hoverflies.
