Big old tree of Japanese Clethra looks gnarled & fantastic.

Botanical name: Clethra Anatolia; English name: Japanese Clethra. This tree grows slowly at this barren land.

Back to reality!!! My brain is still foggy and resisting the idea of going back to work. I hope everyone enjoyed the holidays.

Found baby sea turtles last Christmas. I like the message of hope and strength they represent. Last year was certainly challenging but pushing through this year with a mindset of perseverance against adversity 😊

Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying 'I will try again tomorrow.'

Sunshine in the past week; it felt like Spring and sometimes even like Summer!

Rain and nothing but rain last weekend...it felt like Autumn...

And lots of snow and again since yesterday: Winter, so we have it all within one week! :-)

If you think you have a hard life... Think again!

(photo taken on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada)

The male mountain bluebird pictured here, perched on a poplar branch, was facing into a fairly strong wind during a downfall of freezing rain and snow. This was only the beginning. The area now has a thick blanket of snow and has been below 0 °C for days. Relief from the cold is still a few days away.

When I was checking on the bluebirds this morning, it was -6 °C with a bitter wind. I have seen only two on my last two visits. Earlier, when the weather was better, there were three. Last year there were six in the immediate area.

It is possible the weather has put a damper on some of the migration and more will show up when the weather warms up. I sure hope so!

Did you think this fool could never win?

Well, look at me.

I'm coming back again.

I'm still standing better than I ever did.

"Perseverance" - As the resilient leaves of the caladium endure the persistent rain, so shall I in capturing its triumph.

Perseverance

The "Perseverance" rail sculpture was installed on December 12, 2017, to mark the opening of the Gateway Roundabout and celebrate the railway heritage in St. Thomas.

This unique work of art, made of steel as strong as resolve of the citizens of St. Thomas, represents the importance of the railway and its impact on the formative years of the City. Through determination and hard work, the people of St. Thomas have always strived to make their city a better place.

The sculpture is made from 20 tonnes of atmospheric corrosion resistant steel which forms impermeable oxide.
