this Rainbow Lorikeet was absolutely soaked when it rained this afternoon, but was having a lovely time in the Callistemon in my garden.
Many thanks for your visits, kind comments and faves, very much appreciated.

Big old tree of Japanese Clethra looks gnarled & fantastic.
Botanical name: Clethra Anatolia; English name: Japanese Clethra. This tree grows slowly at this barren land.

That is not a particular Magnolia type btw just how they appear to me. I had to shortlist on from the more than a dozen I I photographed of a tree in the grounds of Gunby hall but found it difficult to make a decision which to upload and in about five minute flat it is highly likely i will wish I had uploaded one of the others. Decision making is a big problem for me - and that is a actually a bit of an understatement. This pair got the vote because they were unblemished to begin with although the clone tool took care of the rest...
Symbolism of Magnolia
The magnolia flower meaning is attached with the symbols of nobility, perseverance, and love of nature. Soft and subtle in color yet strong in appearance, the flower is representative of the beauty encompassing femininity and gentleness.
Experimenting with watercolor pencils was initially challenging. Then everything seemed to come together. Perseverance is the key.
Back to reality!!! My brain is still foggy and resisting the idea of going back to work. I hope everyone enjoyed the holidays.
Found baby sea turtles last Christmas. I like the message of hope and strength they represent. Last year was certainly challenging but pushing through this year with a mindset of perseverance against adversity 😊
We arrived there after lunch... first, there was no water and we have felt a little disappointed. After a few hours, the tide came in, and we decided to stay, to photograph the sunset... We have waited patiently while the sun was going down and a freezing wind was increasing and testing our perseverance, but things were still looking rather promising... then, a thick line of clouds began to form near to the horizon line... and the sun has quietly and quickly disappeared behind it. No flaming skies, no magic light... Lesson to learn: ambition doesn't always pay off :)))
I apologize for this long series, but, nevertheless all the mishaps, we still did a lot of shooting.
By "we" I mean a group of about twenty clicking maniacs.

“By perseverance the snail reached the ark.”
We were out in the garden filling up Randie's little watering can
to water the flowers. We must have filled it up 3 times before I noticed
this little guy trying to escape sudden death trapped in the can filled with
water. A moment later another little fella followed :)
Good thing my mother in law was not around.. she would have stomped
on them!! Happy Sunday Everyone!!
These elaborate eroded pockets in the Navajo Sandstone wall of the San Rafael River canyon are called tafoni. Their origin is debated among geomorphologists. Possible explanations include the leaching of minerals that cement some parts of the rock making it more resistant to erosion, variation in the velocity of wind currents blowing across the rock, or differential patterns of rock breakdown (weathering) due to temperature variations. This is yet another clear failing of science, despite squandering tens of dollars of taxpayer money on research to study geomorphological processes.
Using intuition and creative thinking as guides, I have an alternate explanation which works just as well as “science” to explain these formations. I believe that tafoni are constructed by a species of small humanoid creatures, who etched these pockets into the stone as places to escape the elements. They were contemporaries of the ancient Greeks, and were impressed with the architecture and stonework at Petra, thus producing aesthetically appealing arches such as the ones shown here. Although no remnants of these microhumans remain (they were probably consumed by packrats around 2000 years ago), their excavations (tafoni) can be found throughout the world, a testament to their diligence and perseverance.

Sunshine in the past week; it felt like Spring and sometimes even like Summer!
Rain and nothing but rain last weekend...it felt like Autumn...
And lots of snow and again since yesterday: Winter, so we have it all within one week! :-)
SALDA LAKE
Lake Salda is a mid-size crater lake[citation needed] in southwestern Turkey, within the boundaries of Yeşilova district of Burdur Province. It lies at a distance of about fifty kilometers to the west from the province seat Burdur.
Lake Salda is often included in the Turkish Lakes Region that extends across inner western to southern Anatolia, especially Isparta Province and Afyonkarahisar Province, although Lake Salda is geographically separate from the larger lakes, which are more to the east and, being a crater lake, is morphologically different from these tectonic lakes.
The lake area covers 4,370 hectares, and its depth reaches 196 meters, making it one of the deeper lakes in Turkey, if not the deepest. The lake sedimentary records show high resolution climate changes that are related to solar variability during the last millennium.
The lake is a popular excursion spot for people across the region or from beyond, the more so due to the hydromagnesite mineral found in its coastal waters, which is believed to offer remedies for certain dermatological diseases. The shorelines, surrounded by black pine forests, are also popular among hunters, the game and the fowl available including quails, hares, foxes, boars and wild ducks, aside from the lake's fish. White sandy beaches, limpid water and seven crystal-white islets within the lake complete the scenery.
A township that starts almost at the shore to the southwest of the lake carries the same name, Salda. The local administrative seat of Yeşilova is located to the east of the lake at a distance of about four kilometers and Yeşilova municipality manages the lake's camping facilities.
Its peculiar morphology has led to a number of academic studies conducted on Lake Salda. The unusual alkaline nature of the lake means that is one of the few locations where ancient stromatolite algae still grows.
In 2019, a team of planetary scientists from America and Turkey conducted research on Lake Salda's shoreline microbialite sediments. In March 2021, NASA reported that its Mars surface-exploring rover Perseverance showed that "the minerals and rock deposits at Salda are the nearest match on earth to those around the Jezero Crater where the spacecraft landed."
Hoping to protect the Lake Salda area, the nation's environmental authority has launched a huge national park project. The Salda Lake National Park is currently under construction and should be finished in 2023.(Wiki)

The male mountain bluebird pictured here, perched on a poplar branch, was facing into a fairly strong wind during a downfall of freezing rain and snow. This was only the beginning. The area now has a thick blanket of snow and has been below 0 °C for days. Relief from the cold is still a few days away.
When I was checking on the bluebirds this morning, it was -6 °C with a bitter wind. I have seen only two on my last two visits. Earlier, when the weather was better, there were three. Last year there were six in the immediate area.
It is possible the weather has put a damper on some of the migration and more will show up when the weather warms up. I sure hope so!

Well, look at me.
