When I was in Maine in June, I was delighted to see peonies blooming everywhere we went. I was very envious -- the only way they grow here in Northern California, I'm told, is if you put ice around them during the winter! I took lots of pictures and will have to settle fof them instead.

A bottle of Perfect Idjit! from Dugges Ale & Porterbryggeri in Mölndal, Sweden, at Ölrepubliken.
Dugges Perfect Idjit! is a 9.5% abv oak aged imperial stout. It poured black with no head at all. It sported a heavy, dark aroma with toffee, licorice, dark chocolate, hints of coffee and a fairly strong vanilla note - slightly reminding me of the Bourbon County Stout. The mouthfeel was full bodied with a velvety smooth and oily thick texture. The flavor started out with caramel, toffee, sweet malt, roasted malt and coffee. As it warmed up I got slightly burnt sugar taste too while the malt tended towards malt tablets, giving the good bitterness a fight for its money. Intense with a long bittersweet aftertaste.
This is a rich and aromatic beer, a full bodied imperial stout. Not for the uninitiated. I love it!
Now this was a delight. Only a day after witnessing a pair of Southerns I was blessed with encountering a pair of Migrant Hawkers throwing some shapes in the reeds. Once again they were too busy to be bothered by me and I managed to rattle off a few shots of which this is my personal favourite.
The male is the one at the top and the female is the one at the bottom who's head is partly obscured by the tail of the male. The tail of the female is completely obscured. When you consider the male is the only one with a purchase on the reeds he certainly has some strength...

The eagles would leave the tree and circle the pond several times and if they didn't catch anything they would come back to the tree! I just sat and waited! Perfect spot to watch nature at its finest in action!

My girlfriend and I bought fancy grits, coffee and popcorn for our families, and I thought I would go back and design some fancy instruction cards for them as well.
