Surface tension (and careful placement) allows these paper clips to rest on top of the water instead of sinking. Surface tension occurs because water molecules are attracted to one another in directions, which makes them cling to one another. However, water molecules at the surface are clinging only to molecules next to and below them. The strength of this adhesion creates a surface that can support small objects of greater density, such as paper clips. Surface tension is what allows water to form droplets or to rise above the top edge of a glass without spilling. Learn more about floating paper clips and surface tension at www.exploratorium.edu/ronh/bubbles/sticky_water.html.

ARTIST Mirza Ajanovic POETIC Photography,

My new Sit On Top touring sea kayak. Tried it out for the first time today at Aberdyfi on the estuary. Feels like I've found a rich new vein of fun (and exercise at the same time). :-) My wife and kids really enjoyed taking it out too - fun for all, gives a whole new perspective to the UK beach holiday. Keen to try it with a small spinning rod too..

I'm not typically a fan of my stuff in black and white but this one looked wierd in colour.

One of the things that bothers me most is the cookie cutter expectations we live by. Every single day were tested to be people we arent, because the things we say or the stuff we do isn't good enough. We don't fit the "standards". How you talk, what you wear, who you're friends with is all being seen and judged by these people who picture this world where everyone is this carbon copy of these perfect few people.

The depth perception is a little off here. The cow is cow-sized, smallish cow at least and the dog is medium dog sized.

See the photographer?

Like funhouse mirrors or shadows on a wall, a distorted perception (no matter how well-intentioned...or not) is still just a trick being played on the mind or the heart, no matter how closely it seems to resemble reality - it is not real.

Now do you see the photographer?...or just that distorted reflection of who I really am?

Until you turn away from that temporary distortion, you cannot see the real ME

...and then, if I allow you to, look into my eyes...now do you see what is real?

part of a series that explores the idea of adapting to the image in order to perceive it.

Five methods of perception, or sense: hearing, sight, touch, smell, and taste; but there is another...the sixth is extrasensory perception or ESP.

LIke, how did I sense that guy hiding in my garden shed.

In each chilly setting of Staging Silence, 2009, initial perceptions of the scene are disrupted by lighting effects and the intrusion of human hands that tinker with elements of the handmade scenery, which quickly transforms from the real to the surreal.
