KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, FLA. - STS-107 Payload Commander Michael Anderson is helped with suit check, part of launch preparations. STS-107 is a mission devoted to research and will include more than 80 experiments that will study Earth and space science, advanced technology development, and astronaut health and safety. The payload on Space Shuttle Columbia includes FREESTAR (Fast Reaction Experiments Enabling Science, Technology, Applications and Research) and the SHI Research Double Module (SHI/RDM), known as SPACEHAB. Experiments on the module range from material sciences to life sciences. KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, FLA. -- In the Payload Hazardous Servicing Facility, the Mars Exploration Rover-2 (MER-2) is tested for mobility and maneuverability over a setup of ramps. Set to launch in Spring 2003, the MER Mission will consist of two identical rovers designed to cover roughly 110 yards each Martian day over various terrain. Each rover will carry five scientific instruments that will allow it to search for evidence of liquid water that may have been present in the planet's past. The rovers will be identical to each other, but will land at different regions of Mars. The first rover has a launch window opening May 30, and the second rover a window opening June 25. In the Payload Changeout Room, Launch Pad 39B, United Space Alliance and NASA workers look at the replacement main propulsion system liquid hydrogen recirculation line (left) to be installed in Shuttle Discovery's aft compartment. At right is the dented line that has been removed. The 12-inch-long dent was discovered during routine aft compartment inspections Tuesday, Dec. 7. The line recirculates hydrogen from the Shuttle main engines back to the external tank during prelaunch engine conditioning. The line is being replaced and managers expect the replacement work to take about 3 days, followed by system retests and final aft compartment close-outs. Preliminary assessments reflect a launch date of Space Shuttle Discovery on mission STS-103 no earlier than Dec. 16. STS-103 is the third servicing mission for the Hubble Space Telescope. After eight months of designing, building and testing, the middle school, high school and college and university teams launched their rockets as part of NASA Student Launch on Saturday, April 6. The rockets and their payloads are designed to fly to between 4,000 and 5,500 feet in altitude before deploying recovery systems that brings them safely to the ground.

The Payloader has run out of dumptrucks and has to wait until they return from the City snowdump ready for another load.
They had all kinds of cameras documenting this event. They even had a live feed of inside the payload bay and flight deck aboard Endeavour.

KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, Fla. -- Workers in the Payload Changeout Room check the movement of the U.S. Lab Destiny, which is being transferred to the orbiter˝s payload bay. The PCR is the enclosed, environmentally controlled portion of the rotating service structure that supports payload delivery at the launch pad and vertical installation in the orbiter payload bay. Destiny, a key element in the construction of the International Space Station is designed for space science experiments and already has five system racks installed inside. STS-98 is the seventh construction flight to the ISS. Launch of STS-98 is scheduled for Jan. 19 at 2:11 a.m. EST. KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, FLA. A Universal Coolant Transporter (UCT), manufactured in Sharpes, Fla., arrives at Kennedy Space Center. Replacing the existing ground cooling unit, the UCT is designed to service payloads for the Space Shuttle and International Space Station, and may be capable of servicing space exploration vehicles of the future. It will provide ground cooling to the orbiter and returning payloads, such as science experiments requiring cold or freezing temperatures, during post-landing activities at the Shuttle Landing Facility and during transport of the payloads to other facilities. This two-satellite CubeSat payload created by students from Utah State University is designated Dynamic Ionosphere CubeSat Experiment, or DICE. DICE will study Storm Enhanced Density (SED) bulge and plume features that occur frequently in the U.S. in the late afternoon during magnetic disturbances. Each of the two identical satellites is one and one-half unit (1. U) in size and will launch together to remove spatial and temporal ambiguities in the observation of the plasma density and electric fields in the ionosphere. DICE will enable better understanding of ionospheric variability during solar storms, which has a dramatic effect on radio frequency systems. KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, FLA. - Workers in the Multi-Payload Processing Facility watch the progress of the overhead crane carrying the Hitchhiker Bridge with GetAway Special canisters (GAS cans). The bridge, a carrier for the Fast Reaction Experiments Enabling Science, Technology, Applications and Research (FREESTAR) that incorporates eight high priority secondary attached shuttle experiments, is being transferred to the payload canister below it. The bridge will be installed in Columbia's payload bay as part of mission STS-107. A research mission, STS-107 will also carry the SHI Research Double Module (SHI/RDM), known as SPACEHAB. Experiments on the module range from material sciences to life sciences (many rats). A Small Payload - As we started off the morning, the traps were coming up with small numbers of crabs. Rick said that it was due to the winds that we had been experiencing for the past several days. NASA image captured July 12, 2011..With his feet secured on a restraint on the space station remote manipulator system's robotic arm or Canadarm2, NASA astronaut Mike Fossum (frame center) holds the Robotics Refueling Mission payload, which was the focus of one of the primary chores accomplished on a six and a half hour spacewalk on July 12. The failed pump module is with DEXTRE on left side of the photo. NASA astronauts Fossum and Ron Garan performed the six-hour, 31-minute spacewalk, which represents the final scheduled extravehicular activity during shuttle missions. ..Among Atlantis’s final contributions to the ISS is the Robotic Refueling Mission, developed at Goddard Space Flight Center. Atlantis brought this module to the International Space Station, where it will provide key support in maintaining future spacecrafts for years to come. STS-135 astronauts traveled to Goddard to complete special training for these robotics, a major component of the final shuttle mission.
