KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, Fla. -- In the payload bay of Atlantis, two workers (background and right) watch STS-98 Robert Curbeam practice work he will do on the U.S. Lab Destiny in space. The mission payload, Destiny is a key element in the construction of the International Space Station. The lab is a pressurized module designed to accommodate pressurized payloads. It has a capacity of 24 rack locations. Payload racks will occupy 13 locations especially designed to support experiments. The module already has five system racks installed inside. The STS-98 crew is at KSC for Terminal Countdown Demonstration Test activities, which also include a simulated launch countdown. Launch of STS-98 on its 11-day mission is scheduled for Jan. 19 at 2:11 a.m. EST. The BLT-24 main payload carried an APRS (amateur radio position reporting system) utilizing a GPS, termina node controller, and a VHF FM radio transmitter. The APRS data was sent to the ground, converted with software to display and track the balloon's progress during its flight. The APRS data provided geographical ground position (lat/lon), altitude, ground speed, direction, temperature. When the balloon burst and BLT-24 began its descent to the ground, ground personnel knew where it was right up to the last couple of minutes of descent when signal was lost. Ground recovery teams located and recovered the package quickly.

KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, Fla. -- The payload canister is lifted up the Rotating Service Structure on Launch Pad 39A. At right is Space Shuttle Discovery. Inside the canister are the primary payloads on mission STS-105, the Multi-Purpose Logistics Module Leonardo and the Integrated Cargo Carrier. The ICC holds several smaller payloads, the Early Ammonia Servicer and two experiment containers. The Early Ammonia Servicer consists of two nitrogen tanks that provide compressed gaseous nitrogen to pressurize the ammonia tank and replenish it in the thermal control subsystems of the Space Station. The ICC and MPLM will be lifted into the payload changeout room and then moved into the Discoverys payload bay. The STS-105 mission includes a crew changeover on the International Space Station. Expedition Three will be traveling on Discovery to replace Expedition Two, who will return to Earth on board Discovery. Launch of STS-105 is scheduled for Aug. 9. 5-28-11 still operating the exact thing

Payload verification test for a crystallization in microgravity experiment.

Payload was released as part of the 8th round of figures through the Collector's Club exclusive Figure Subscription Service in January of 2019. He was in the 5th installment with Munitia.

 

This figure is based on the 1987 ARAH Payload figure.

 

At this point I had decided that I dd not want every figure that came out and was focusing in the ARAH run line up, unless something really caught my eye. I did not sign up for this years subscription and acquired these figures separately. I'd like to pick up a few more but don't feel that I need he entire set.

Lia Klofas and I put together part of the payload for one of the High Altitude balloons that Eric Wang and his team were sending up into the atmosphere. Our payload consisted of a digital camera, a small heater (to stop the battery freezing) and a sensor to detect interior and exterior temperature as the balloon ascended. The camera was set to take photos every 10 seconds. I'll post some here shortly.

KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, FLA. -- In the Payload Changeout Room, Launch Pad 39A, workers raise a platform toward the forward cargo bay area of Space Shuttle Endeavour to search for an oxygen leak. The launch of Endeavour on mission STS-113 was postponed Nov. 10, following the completion of tanking operations, due to higher than allowable oxygen levels in the orbiter's midbody. Workers will investigate the exact location and possible cause of the leak, and effect repairs. Launch has been tentatively set for no earlier than Nov. 18, between 7 and 11 p.m. EST. A Two Stage, Payloader Modification Of The Estes Der Big Red Max (1977). Uses the decals from 2 Der Red Max (0651) kits, mounts for "E" motors, and an 18" body tube.

This will be exposed on the lower end of the payload during re-entry. It's covered in natural cork, which is an excellent ablative material.
