Wasn't it Dick Wittington or some such character who went to London because it was paved with gold? ---- He should have gone to Lyme Regis!!

Marrakesh or Marrakech is a major city of Morocco. It is the fourth largest city in the country.
The Bahia Palace is a late 19th-century palace in Marrakesh, Morocco. The palace was first begun by Si Musa, grand vizier of Alaouite sultan Muhammad ibn Abd al-Rahman, in 1859 and then continued and expanded by his son Si Ba Ahmed ibn Musa, grand vizier of Sultan Moulay Abdelaziz between 1894 and 1900. Today it is a well-known historic monument and tourist attraction in the city.

Many of the tracks around the Pinnacles in the Coromandel Forest Park are paved from when the tracks were used routinely by pack horses to supply logging camps. They are a surprise in the bush but hard on the feet!

I probably shouldn't mess with history but... This is my take on the chariot ruts in the paved roads made over 2000 years ago then driven over by chariots and suddenly covered with volcanic ash for almost all of the last 2000 years. Damage to stone surfaces takes centuries and looks very strange to kiwi eyes. Our buildings and tracks since the Maori came here about 600 years back were made in wood. I don't count potholes made by trucks as interesting as chariot marks :) This photo, though not the Photoshop part, inspired by Geza (aka Wilsing)

Many of the cobblestones in New York are being paved over, but some still remain as relics of old New York. Even though they are in quite a bad state of disrepair, the old cobblestones in SoHo are lovely and romantic.
The Jingzaijiao Tile-paved Salt Fields (Chinese: 井仔腳瓦盤鹽田; pinyin: Jǐngzǐjiǎo Wǎpán Yántián) is a salt field in Beimen District, Tainan, Taiwan.
Originally established in 1818 by salt farmers as the Laidong Salt Fields, the field is the oldest salt field in Taiwan. The site was originally a desert. It was then later procured by Taiwan Salt Company. In 1952, the field area was redesigned and the field became the only central-style tiled-paved salt field in Taiwan. Due to the declining business of salt industry, groups had been actively advocating for the revival of the field, thus the field had then been restored for tourism purpose.

Mt Lemmon Scenic Byway is the only paved road that leads to the upper reaches of Mt. Lemmon and the Santa Catalina Range. It is one of the most scenic drives in southeast Arizona. It provides access to a fascinating land of great vistas, outlandish rockscapes, cool mountain forests and deep canyons spilling out onto broad deserts. Because the road starts in the Lower Sonoran vegetative life zone and climbs to the high forests of the Canadian zone, it offers the biological equivalent of driving from the deserts of Mexico to the forests of Canada in a short stretch of 27 miles. Here you'll find plants and animals and geology that exhibit some of the most wide-ranging natural diversity to be found in any area of comparable size in the continental United States.
As you drive up the mountain, every turn seems to reveal something new. In some places that may be a community of trees, shrubs, and wildflowers different from the one just around the previous curve. In others, it may be a new gallery of natural rock sculptures even more impossibly perched than the last, or a broader panorama that stretches in an entirely different direction than the one that caused you to stop and snap a photo just a few moments before.

Richmond upon Thames, the corner of The Green and Paved Court: a tribute to “Ted Lasso”
This photograph, which I took on November 28, 2023, shows one of the Richmond locations most frequently seen in “Ted Lasso”.
When in November 2023 I visited Richmond upon Thames together with my family, my son told me that this beautiful village (which is administratively part of London) is the location of a splendid TV series, called “Ted Lasso”, distributed by Apple TV between 2020 and 2023. Now I've seen “Ted Lasso” too: I finished watching it today and I really liked it. This TV series teaches optimism and kindness, spiritual and emotional values, solidarity and respect between people, forgiveness: and it does so in a fun and moving way. After all, it wasn't just me who liked the series: it thrilled millions of viewers and received many well-deserved awards.

This photograph showcases a picturesque facade of a trullo, a traditional dwelling found in Alberobello, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the Puglia region of southern Italy. The trulli are characterized by their distinct whitewashed limestone walls and conical stone roofs, as seen in this image. These dry-stone constructions date back to prehistoric times, designed with local limestone and no mortar, a unique feature of the area. The carefully stacked grey stones of the roof create a textured contrast against the smooth, bright white facade. The chimney rising above the roof is simple yet functional, reflecting the rural and historic charm of these homes.
The beauty of the facade is further enhanced by the vibrant climbing plants with red flowers, likely bougainvillea, that spread across the walls and windows. Large stone planters overflowing with greenery and purple blooms frame the entrance, adding a touch of nature to the otherwise minimalistic structure. The wooden door, tucked into a soft, rounded archway, provides warmth to the facade and hints at the cozy, rustic interior that these trulli are known for. The stone-paved ground in the foreground completes the serene, timeless setting.
Alberobello is famous not only for its unique architecture but also for its rich cultural and culinary traditions. Walking through its narrow streets, one can find trulli converted into shops, restaurants, and guesthouses. Local specialties such as orecchiette pasta, taralli crackers, and olive oil reflect the agricultural heritage of the region. This photograph beautifully encapsulates the spirit of Alberobello: a blend of history, tradition, and natural beauty that continues to captivate visitors from around the world.
