Mitre street was the first paved street in the City. You'll find most of the city's shops there, including chocolate and handicraft stores, bars, restaurants, bookstores, music houses, galleries, travel agencies and much more. If you're walking down "The Mitre" then you are in the very heart of Bariloche.
The Civic Center of San Carlos de Bariloche opened in March 17, 1940. It was built by architect Ernesto de Estrada with cypress and larch wood, and tufa extracted from Mount Carbón.
Its architecture has European and North American influences, reflecting the surrounding mountains and woods. With its charming stone walls, wooden doors and Lake Nahuel Huapi in the background, it’s easy to understand why the Civic Center is the place to be for both tourists and locals. Large cultural and social events are held at its square.

I write this with a heavy heart. The last couple of years have found me with a progressively debilitating spinal column and joint problems. If it were just me, I would never ask, but I have 2 young daughters that look to me for support, so I have to swallow my pride...
If you are in a position to help, I have setup an account to accept donations, even as little as the price of a coffee. Anything would be greatly appreciated. See my "About" page on Flickr for the link. Thank you.

Walking around the California Aqueduct. At this point, this side is paved, and the other side is a dirt trail.
Peyto Lake, 28 miles north of Lake Louise, walking a paved trail through the woods to see the lake, which gets its bright turquoise hue from glacial particles suspended in water. There was observation platform which was built last year. However, following a narrow trail up to another point, there was a big stone you could step on, the view was better than the wooden observation platform. There was a wedding going on here, the photographer took couple’s photo on the stone…. It was a cloudy, raining, sunshine alternative day on that morning.
Last year, Peyto Lake was closed due to construction (building the observation platform), we hiked from farther north at Mistaya Canyon, a dirt trail reaches the narrow canyon where the river flow from Peyto Lake dips and gnarls through fissures of rock that often hide its depths. The view from bottom was totally different… I did not post any photos from last year… 😉

Taken on top of Mt. Bierstadt at 14,065 feet. Off to the left hand side is Mt. Evans which has one of the highest paved roads to the top. This picture was taken right as a storm was moving in.
The Passo Fedaia is a mountain pass traversed by a paved road in the Dolomiti Range in Northern Italy. It lies at the northern base of the Marmolada, the highest peak in the region and the Dolomiti. It is known for its beauty, for Lago Fedaia, and for its use in the Giro d'Italia. It was also used as a location for the film Italian Job.It is the site of the Passo Fedaia and Marmolada Gletscher ski areas. -
Original photo by my nephew, Jake.
Edited by me with DDG, Topaz, Photoshop (because I loved the photo)
Jake has decided to take Photography as an 'A' level.
Somewhat of a surprise to me as I had no idea he was interested in photography!
His original is in the first comment box
He has a natural talent, although I've yet to see any drive/motivation ... hopefully early days!???
I don't see my role as being nagging aunt, however, a bit of encouragement via Flickr comments might help (although, there's stiff competition with the Xbox)

Most of our life takes place on wide, paved roads, often on real highways. Traveling these ways is fast, efficient and feels safer. But you're missing out on so much. You rush from appointment to appointment, from event to event or from vacation to vacation at top speed. And before you know it, there's hardly anything left of the trip.
I invite you to look for ways away from the main routes. Following the inconspicuous and hidden paths that are too easy to overlook, to live and experience more slowly and intensely.
You have to take care for yourself much more there, that's right. But awareness and mindfulness never were a mistake.
Life is full of wonders, surprises and amazing experiences. They are waiting for you to find them.
Doch man verpasst dabei so unfassbar viel.

Tsukiyama (築山) or the artificial mound and Ike (池) or the pond are the two basic elements of Daimyou gardens.
Most of the Daimyou gardens install pathways to appreciate the changing landscape while walking. This style of Japanese gardens is called Chisen-kaiyuushiki (池泉回遊式) or Stroll-around-the-pond style.
This is a stone-paved pathway down to the pond from the Tsukiyama in Kourakuen.

I arrived too late to catch the tide at the right place for this classic shot, so I had to improvise. This group of rocks were covered in almost fluorescent green weed and I thought they would make up for the lack of water that I had originally planned for.
Reflection of the entrance to the Adelaide Central Plaza in the stainless steel sculpture (aptly named Malls Balls) of two balls, one balanced on top of the other.
It is situated in the middle of Rundle Mall -- the main city shopping mall, with wide paved street filled with trees, lamp posts, benches, buskers, and the occassional bike trailer selling food.

this image started out as a series of exposures that ended up going into the tonemapping software, even though it is present in my camera...old dogs, you know...it turned out okay but i wanted to soften the often jarring obviousness of the mapping
the title also comes from these last few days of dog-sitting my daughter's 3 month old rescue puppy, a border collie cross from a reservation and an absolute sweetheart

The Stelvio Pass (Italian: Passo dello Stelvio; German: Stilfser Joch) is a mountain pass in northern Italy, at an elevation of 2,757 m (9,045 ft) above sea level. It is the highest paved mountain pass in the Eastern Alps, and the second highest in the Alps, just 13 m (43 ft) below France's Col de l'Iseran (2,770 m (9,088 ft)).
Wikipedia
