First developed in 1871 as a residential resort, Asbury Park, NJ made the Jersey Shore popular more than a century before anyone ever dreamed of "reality TV".
The Convention Center, Paramount Theater, Carousel and Casino Arena all came along in the 1920's and the Boardwalk continued to be a popular destination for many years.
Bruce Springsteen's 1973 debut album titled "Greetings from Asbury Park, N.J." made the area into a household word around the world.
Here's a look toward the Paramount and the Convention Center with the Boardwalk in the foreground.

1987 Leyland Tiger TRCT11.3RZ chassis with Plaxton Paramount III 3200 coach body, Reg. D196OYD) in Smiths Coaches of Pylle livery at the Bristol Bus Show, Brislington, 27 July 2025.
The Leyland Tiger, which replaced the Leyland Leopard, was a mid-engined coach and bus chassis built 1981-92. Initially, Leyland only offered their TL11 diesel engine, but demands from operators resulted in them having to offer the Gardner 6HLXCT from 1984, Cummins L10 from 1987 and Volvo THD 100 from 1989 the latter two becoming the only options after Volvo bought Leyland in 1988. The Tiger was a very successful design produced in a great many versions usually with Plaxton Paramount coach bodies or a variety of Alexander bus bodies.
The Plaxton Paramount coach body was fitted to a very large number of different chassis in 1982-92 in three marks: I (intro 1982), II (1984) and III (1986) and two main types within each mark: 3200 in 26-39ft lengths and a standard floor; and 3500 36-39ft in lengths and a high floor. In addition, there was also a 4000 double-decker version of the Paramount I & II and an Expressliner single-decker version of the III specifically for National Express.
