"Yep, looks like the U.S. midwest!" we exclaim happily in unison as we walk side-by-side.

It means that the Sequoya Branch of the Madison Public Library has been a big hit since it reopened about a year ago in its new quarters in Sequoya Commons.

The bad news is the parking lot is almost always full, and cars have to circle and wait for someone else to leave the busy parking lot -- making it an interesting laboratory for studying human nature and how it affects parking behavior. See Letter from Here.

Yell the year of a funny-looking building then laugh. Do it!

Lol I heard you love brownish orange brick veneer and half circles inside triangles.

Ugh but this building contains a Southern Baptist law school. Run away as fast as you can!

The integrated rocker panels can cause some sticky situations

Then we walked up this street. Or did we? I don't remember if we walked up this street before or after dinner. Anyway, about 50 yards ahead was a store that sold a bunch of World War 2-related items, many of which seem to have been recovered from the area. There were pins, helmets, medals, and little paper Nazi flags for something ridiculous like 25 Euros or 50 Euros each. I only had so many Euros with me, so I didn't buy anything.

It would have been cool to have some original World War 2 military equipment, though.

I'm not sure why they would put the steering wheel on the outside of the engine. It may have something to do with parallel parking...

The guy working there asked me how to park the Willys, so I jokingly told him to pull it in sideways and park a Civic behind it.

It's nearly high noon on a sunny spring day!

parallel parking win.

The Municipal Code of Chicago explicitly describes this as a legal way to park one's bike.

Yeah, I'm pretty happy with this job of parking. This is why having a small car is nice, the street it littered with unusably small parking spots like this.

Done super successfully and with minimal panicking (a friend was waiting for me so there was no time to cry that this was the only space available).

(VIEW LARGE SIZE TO SEE THE ANIMATION) First attempt of Russ Swift for this stunt. His bluff to scare me more!

Somehow I thought that, because everyone abandons the neighborhood for Christmas and street parking is plentiful, that this would also be the case for New Year's.

Suffice it to say that this was not the case. After a very enjoyable New Year's party I was faced with having to find a parking spot and after about 30 minutes it was obvious that there were no nearby spots to be found and no one was leaving (everyone most likely being passed out at that hour).

I passed up this spot too many times to count, not really sure if I would fit and not sure if my coordination was up to the task, recovering from the party and being generally tired. All I know is that if I had tried earlier I would have been much less grumpy. 'Cause actually, I got it parked in one shot.

He did eventually get extracted.

At least 3.5 feet from the curb.
