I dropped the Willys off for an oil and t-case fluid change and told them to park it out of the rain. So they did.

And then one day approx 73 years later, I saw a Mazda CX-5 from model years 2017-2019 and a Honda Fit from model years 2015-2017, parked out front.

What happened next was sooooo gross lol, I don't even want to tell it. There was food involved, that's all I'll say. And the food had gone bad.

Meanwhile, these phony "broken pediment" ornaments are ridiculous!

Everyplace I went in San Diego I saw parked cars it seemed like.

It would harm society to park your car on this street for longer than two hours on a weekday.

An example of nice landscaping in the curb bump-out at Third & Elgin in downtown Tulsa.

The Los Angeles County Assesor says there's a building from 1913 in there. Wow!

The building's false front is splendid and hilarious.

I have something your're going to love: A link to a picture by Ed Ruscha, showing what the building looked like in 1974. Look at it!

Mr Ruscha was there in 2007 also, at which time the building was occupied by a used car dealerhip and a used furniture shop.

Harry's Barber Shop and Beauty Salon appears to have opened in 2015, per Goola Streetview, which documents a lot of turnover in the businesses occupying various portions of the building in recent years. I'm old and I don't have time to write them all down. A young and energetic Cultural Studies major should do it instead.

I would paint the brick wall olive green, the infills and boards chartreuse, and the arches and sills white, to match the colors of my favorite pair of basketball shorts. But it's not my decision to make, not my building to paint.

Okay here goes:

• This is in Freeport, Illinois.

• The July 1897 Sanborn fire insurance map of Freeport identifies this as the Anzeiger Building at 97 Galena Street (which was renumbered/renamed to its current address, 1 East Main Street, sometime later). It is depicted as a 3-story building, with "B. Press R'm & Off." on the first floor, "Compos'g & Electro-Typing" on the second, and "Book Bindery" on the third.

• A 1910 history of Stephenson County, Illinois, says the "Anzeiger Building, a large three-story brick structure at the corner

of Chicago and Galena Streets, which houses one of the most complete and up-to-date printing plants in the state" was built in 1886 by "William Wagner, the venerable editor and publisher of the Anzeiger."

• But!, the 1890 fire insurance map (the earliest available online) shows a shorter two-story building at this location, labeled "water motor printing." Wtf? Did the Anzeiger Building start as a shorter two-story building? Or is the 1910 history book wrong about the 1886 date?, and if so was the building depicted on the 1890 map demolished and replaced sometime between the 1890 and 1897 maps?

• Meanwhile, on Google Streetview I discovered there's a "Downtown Freeport Century Building" plaque on the building saying it was built in 1897. Wtf?

• I sought to resolve the discrepancy by consulting city directories at AncestryLibrary.com, but no: Both the 1894 and 1905 directories (the earliest available) show "Hoffman & Buss" at this address. Wtf?

• So "late 19th century" is as specific as I can get. My 2010 Buick Lucerne and I are gone from here, and we will probably never be back.

Verily the Crawford Block was built in 1895, per the following reports in the Menominee Daily Herald:

• "Within the next few weeks the Crawford Block will be ready for occupancy. The plasterers are now spreading their 'mud.' Cholera Morbus is a dangerous complaint, and often is fatal in its results. To avoid this you should use De Witt's Colic and Cholera Cure, as soon as the first symptoms appear."—August 21, 1895.

• "On the first floor main entrance to the Crawford block a cement slab will be put in by Downey, the cement walk man. It will last a lifetime."—August 24, 1895.

• "The large glass show-windows have been put in the Crawford block, and the oak shelving is also being placed in position. Easy to take, sure to cure, no pain, nothing to dread, pleasant little pills. De Witt's Little Early Risers. Best for Sick Headache, Biliousness, Sour Stomach and Constipation."—September 4, 1895.

• "There are a few very bad boys in this city, who seem to think they have a "card blank" to do just as they please. The police ought to look after these vandals and place them In the 'lock-up' when caught throwing stones and doing other acts of vandalism. The boys who daubed up the plastering In the Crawford block with red paint ought to be severely punished for their Idiotic foolishness. Cholera Morbus is a dangerous complaint, and often is fatal in its results. To avoid this you should use De Witt's Colic and Cholera Cure, as soon as the first symptoms appear."—September 19, 1895.

See for instance Clayton Av between Commonwealth & Hoover, in Los Feliz: a clump of cars.
