Parking this thing takes some getting used to; I blame this on the Equinox’s massive turning radius. It’s over 40 feet, which is by far the worst within this competitive set. Don’t even bother opting for the 19 inch wheels; those suckers will give you a 42.6 feet turning radius, nearly the same needed to turn no less than a Chevy Suburban!

"Before" pictures of an area that will receive widened sidewalks (widening into the parking lane) as part of DDOT's upcoming first phase U Street Reconstruction.

In downtown New London, Connecticut, on September 21st, 2021, 2 Union St. (built 1895 according to its date stone) at the intersection of Union Street and Pearl Street. The building is located in the Downtown New London Historic District on the National Register of Historic Places, but was designated a "noncontributing property" for some reason. The tower is atop a telephone building owned by the Southern New England Telephone Company (d/b/a Frontier Communications of Connecticut).

Parking on hills in San Francisco is common. Parallel parking isn't, but when you have a street that has no exit, then you increase parking space by doing it. Space is at a real premium in The City. San Francisco has over 40 hills.

The Equinox’s electric steering (standard on the four-cylinder) makes parking maneuvers a breeze. Variable effort steering comes standard. Dry-steering the Equinox is so effortless it’s almost fun.

Online real estate and apartment search websites variously state that the building was built in 1952 or 1959. Based on a search of city directories at ancestrylibrary.com, I think 1959 is correct.

The suspension, on the other hand, is superb. Chicago has awful streets, and the Equinox manages to absorb all those inconsistencies and still feel sporty doing so.

The street behind my Frankfurt flat. A parallel parking nightmare. There are an amazing amount of cars in Frankfurt, considering how good public transport is.

That is me in the Z3 in front of the "Painted Ladies" in San Francisco. We rented that car for our visit to SF in June 2001. If you notice, we were parked on a fairly steep hill, and the rental car was a stick shift...I remember that Scott had a heck of a time parallel parking that car on that hill and he hit the motorcycle in front of us! I told him to get out of the car and let me park it (I drove a manual shift for 8 years and was much better than he was!) but typical guy, he had to do it himself. I was sure that someone from the park there was going to come over and yell at us, LOL!

This cracked me up on my way to work. Note the wide berth, yet unsuccessful maneuver.

Snow makes it possible for everyone to appreciate my parallel parking skills.

how am I suppose to get out of this one?

For shorter drivers, Chevrolet has included two settings on the powered rear liftgate that make reaching the close button easier.

New York, New York

File Name: DSC_5272

Description & Photographer Notes:

Once in a while, you have to acknowledge the fact that some people are “smart” when it comes to parking in New York City, case and point, the Smart Fortwo pictured in the above figure. This is first time I’ve seen the Smart For Two parked in NYC, so I might as well document it!

The cars narrow the road such that only one vehicle can pass at a time, effectively functioning as chokers & calming traffic.

Andy literally had me speechless with his nonchalant parking awesomeness.

At work, we have an ongoing debate about our superpowers. I used to say being able to look at any item of clothing and know if it will fit someone. But I think I'm going to change it to parallel parking. I am destined to live in a city.

Half of the time we drove the car with the “Eco” button on. The Eco mode alters the shift patterns in the four-cylinder powertrain; GM told us that this improves gas mileage by about 1 mpg. We didn’t notice any change in drivetrain feel or in real-world gas mileage.

Needless to say, lots of honking ensued as drivers in the right-hand lane were forced to swerve slightly to get around the honda's ass sticking out into traffic. His front bumper was at least 16 inches away from the curb. And no, his blinkers weren't on.

Wee bit dangerous for my liking.
