I am going to be away for a few days over the weekend and have spent the last week packing and unpacking a number of times.
I think at long last I has my selection sorted
I'm almost finished packing.
I get ready for Germany.
Finally, I will meet winter this year.
Here in Greece we had an absolutely mild winter.
Maybe I'll even see snow.

BASE jumping is the recreational sport of jumping from fixed objects, using a parachute to descend safely to the ground. "BASE" is an acronym that stands for four categories of fixed objects from which one can jump: buildings, antenna (referring to radio masts), spans (bridges), and earth (cliffs). Participants exit from a fixed object such as a cliff, and after an optional free-fall delay, deploy a parachute to slow their descent and land. A popular form of BASE jumping is wingsuit BASE jumping.
In contrast to other forms of parachuting, such as skydiving from air planes, BASE jumps are performed from fixed objects which are generally at much lower altitudes, and BASE jumpers only carry one parachute. BASE jumping is significantly more hazardous than other forms of parachuting, and is widely considered to be one of the most dangerous extreme sports.
After a 3 hour hike, 25 seconds free fall and 2 minute parachute drop there comes the task of parachute packing - a time consuming act that requires skill and care, after all your life will depend on you getting it done properly.

On Oct. 22, 1797 -- 216 years ago today -- in a Paris exhibition, Garnerin rose to a height of 3,200 feet, then made a dizzying descent to Earth by parachute and took his bows. Others had parachuted before Garnerin, but he's credited as the first to jump using a parachute without a rigid frame.

First day of Northwest blueberry packing. Used only available light in a packing plant, which is not the best, but liked the results.

Spent an enjoyable couple of hours down at Rest Bay with Gerald and about a dozen or so Kite surfers.. Great Fun!

When packing for a trip, Gerda always includes her favorite snowflake panties.
Gerda Eternity is FINALLY out of her stock outfit! This blue outfit from Sunday's Very Best looks great on her, especially with her blue eyes. And as we all know, a Snow Queen needs snowflake panties! This is for the theme "Underwear Day" in the Blythe a Day group.
For the duration of the winter school holidays, Puffing Billy Railway are running the "Train of Lights" specials from Lakeside to Gembrook and return.
As there are no locomotive stabling and servicing facilities at Lakeside, NG/G16 129 - the specially-equipped steam loco that hauls the popular train - must depart from Belgrave earlier in the day before heading over to Lakeside and pick up the carriages. Once the train returns to Lakeside and the passengers have all departed for home, the NGG must return to Belgrave where the crew will clean out the ash, fill the water tanks, and ready it for the following evening's service.
This photo is the result of careful planning, lots of trial and error over a couple of nights on location, and the end result has been lit with four off-camera flashes triggered wirelessly using Canon's radio controller system.
All the bicycles and riders we saw earlier are loading up into the bus they arrived in.
These ex-USA School Buses never had such an exciting time back in the US!
Packing is a necessary prelude to moving from one place to another. And it can be interesting photographically speaking... :)

packing list for my future reference. only thing not pictured is a stuff sack with a change of clothes for camp, frame pump, spare spokes, and i usually bring a book and a notepad.
left pannier:
-main pocket: tent + sleeping bag + camp clothes in a compression sack.
-outside pocket: bike tools and tubes
-top pocket: cycling clothes, warm hat.
right pannier:
-main pocket: food, cooking stuff, fuel, tent poles, toiletries, book, thermarest, camp shoes.
-outside pocket: snacks
-top pocket: main stash of film, warm jacket, head lamp.
front bag: cameras, few rolls of film, sunscreen, wallet, phone, maps, snacks.
weight:
18.5lbs = gear
~3lbs = camp clothes and book
6lbs = panniers
total = 27.5lbs
A dark moment on an otherwise bright and changeable day. For these sailboat enthusiasts it was a good time to pack up.
And so, it starts... The team from Walkers Removals are here nice and early, on time as promised, to pack up the house... 11 years of memories into boxes.... A 'challenging' day ahead...

Continuing the series of street photography where I attempt to document the days leading to the closing down of the Sungei Road Flea market (Singapore) which made way for future urban redevelopment on 10 July 2017.
The market which started in the 1930s serves as the go-to place for the underprivileged or those seeking unique items at a bargain. This is far flung from the upmarket shopping belts in Orchard Road or Marina Bay Sands.
It started in the 1930s during the Japanese occupation along Rochor River, where people would seek household items which were in short supply. It was later coined "Thieves" market as stolen goods were hawked there.
Before closing down, second hand clothes, watches and electrical items were popular with foreign construction workers and normally hawked by the elderly or those who are independent and refuse financial assistance from the state.
I tried to capture the lively battering atmosphere, which were sometimes quirky as well as the melancholy etched in the faces of those who were saddened by the impending loss of a livelihood and historical site.
While the hawkers not always friendly, with personalities sculpted through the "hard knocks of life"..... especially towards photographers who sometimes intrude into their businesses, I tried to be as inconspicuous as possible by carrying a small handheld camera instead of a DSLR, often getting close to the interactions between buyers and sellers.
