Moving to a new place is an exciting prospect. It doesn’t happen every day, and most people enjoy the idea of #moving. However, there is the matter of packing up your old place before you get to start a new chapter. Where to begin? Packing up can be a very daunting task and if you want to avoid unnecessary panic during the process, here are a couple of things to think about during the process.
It is essential to take care while doing the #packing since you don't want any of your items damaged in the process. It seems natural but when you start the task often proves to be harder than you thought it would be. It is a skill to learn and take time to look into it before you start packing everything up. One of the reasons you should pack everything is to make it easier for you to take all the items from one place to the other. Shipping Supplies should also be on the list of the things you should get before the madness of moving begins. That way you will be prepared in advance.
There are several supplies you should get before the move. Using better quality #packaging will be helpful in the future as well since it will allow you to ensure a safer move.
Moving boxes come in different shapes and sizes. Sturdy #cardboard #boxes are the only ones you should use since if they are too thin it merely can become too dangerous.
You should also buy good quality packaging tape since that will even make a move safer. Don't use a regular masking tape since it will not do the job properly.
Another supply you should have is either newspapers or proper packaging #paper. They are from a similar material so you can do with newspapers in large numbers to fill the gaps between cups and plate sets and fill the empty spaces in the boxes.
There is also an option to buy packaging paper pads that are made for more delicate items that need more protection.
Make sure you secure the flaps of your boxes at the sides before you start packing it. It will ensure that you won’t catch your objects on the flaps while putting them in the boxes.
Proper packaging boxes allow you to label them appropriately. Use a permanent sharpie since it will make the unpacking more comfortable on the other end. Make sure you list all the things you put in each box. If you know which part of the new place you want to unpack first, you can even number the boxes according to this plan.
If you are using a #professional moving #company to help you, remember that they are not allowed to transport hazardous materials or those that quickly catch fire. You will have to carry such items yourself.
Books and DVDs can easily be packed in a book box and should go in there in a vertical position. This way you can fit more into a box and make sure they don't get damaged in the process.
Don’t underestimate the power of the wrapping sheets. Especially when you are packaging #crockery and #glassware since the more paper, the more padding and more secure your dishes will be. Take extra care with the fine china.
Taking extra care when packaging everything it will make a move more comfortable and the unpacking more pleasant as well.

The Seattle Flickrites have a weekly challenge for a topic, and this week is 'Heat.' Many people will not remember that 'Heat' is a term used for a firearm, often called a 'Heater.' So, 'Packing Heat' means you would be carrying a concealed weapon.
My weapon of choice in this shoot was a Rock Island Armory Match Grade 1911-A1 semi-auto pistol. It carries 8 rounds in the magazine and 'one in the pipe.'

I'm in my room (still living at Dad's). I have begun packing for my journey to the Amazon to find my mom. I had no idea what to pack. How pairs socks do you need? How many boxers? How many batteries. After a while, you just simply make do with what you've got. Luckily, my dad gave me a lot of advice.

Harriete Berman has two blog posts, here and here, about packing art for shipping. I really like most of her suggestions, but she uses upholstery foam, which harbors mold. I am allergic and have had terrible reactions to foam, so it doesn't come into my house. I'm experimenting with using bubble wrap, arranging it in a "nest" so that there is no tape and the box and object don't have to be wrapped around and around to send it back. Some things have come back to be barely wrapped. Recently I sent two artist's books to a publisher, each in an inner box, inside a larger box. They were returned in their inner boxes. I don't know what happened to the outer box. It was very upsetting because one of the books was barely covered, much less protected from scratching. Luckily both books were okay.
