“An empty room holds nothing but memories. At least it would, if I didn’t just finish packing up the last of the sadness.”
― Jarod Kintz
My first attempt at Mission24 for the block theme didn't work out because I didn't read the rules carefully enough (outside the allowed time frame). Oops! A week or two ago I put together some new shelves in my room. I've been meaning to take the box and packing materials out to the dumpster but haven't gotten around to it yet so they have been residing in my hallway. Then, it struck me...why not use the Styrofoam blocks for this weeks submission?
Urbex....a great wee day out. Met Stepbar (Stephen) & Macredeye (Cliff) in Larne for a good mooch in the old Bleach Green, absolutely brilliant. I learnt heaps, took loads of shots and the craic was great. Was scared witless by Stepbar who rang me telling me to get my butt to the front gate ASAP as they had been chased (he actually panted) by 2 mad junkies. Give me 2 blades of grass and I'm lost so i hadn't a clue which direction the gate was and i'm in this huge shed whispering and trying not to poop my pants! BRAT! They had met JDholic (Jonny) and Irishmanlost (Pete)
Headed off after to Drum na Greagh....scary place that, and the day was blighted by the 'loss' of Stepbars cam, which toppled on its tripod. Real blow, hopefully it can be repaired. Thanks guys for a cracking day and for guiding me round places that are perfect photo ops, and my first REAL urbexpediton.

Today, I was putting my snowboarding gear away, I've retired for the season since spring is fast approaching. I guess Suzuki and Dexter thought it would be funny to try on my googles.I had a good season too, pushed my abilities to the limit and hoping to once again to take it to the next level come fall! But for now, I have to turn my attention to wakeboarding.

As part of the owners' ongoing renovations of the original meat packing plant, an extensive green roof was proposed on a two story section. Designed as a pilot project to determine the viability in this area, the owners plan to install a larger green roof on an adjacent building with further plans to turn this once abandoned warehouse into a center for Nashville's arts and sustainable conservation design. The project started by removing the existing roofing to install the necessary vapor barrier, insulation, and first layer of Famos waterproofing. The top membrane integrated copper foil into the modified membrane and surfaced with hydrogel crystals to improve drought resistance. Five inches of growth media topped the waterproofing. Over 1200 plants from 15 different species were installed on this roof. The landscape architect and plant supplier chose to use plants indigenous to Middle Tennessee. The edges and penetrations required an 18" border of pea gravel to aid in proper drainage and to limit root migration.
The Armour & Swift Meat Packing Complex was established in 1902. It is being torn down in 2012. I went by to visit while there was still some to see, although I didn't take the route of many and trespass. so these are taken through the fence.

I packed up these three boxes while watching an episode of Grey's Anatomy.
I have a table in my dining room/office that was a black hole for random stuff. Shit piled all over it. It's clean now! As is the bookshelf next to it.

Wihtin 30 minutes of our house are plenty of remote camping options. To celebrate Marika's birthday we went to Miller Canyon close to Pasadena. Mind you; camping LA style means packing up incredible amounts of (vegan) foods, alcoholic beverages and herb..
Going on holidays to Vietnam for 18 days. I hope 6 rolls of Portra 400 and 8 rolls of Superia 400 will be enough. I'm taking my Yashica, my Canon EOS300 and an underwater 35mm camera. My iphone will serve for instant gratification photos.
