It seems only fitting that we closed out our summer camping season, right where it all began four months ago. We literally spent more weekends camping out under the stars than we did in our own beds this summer - building forever memories with our kids and seeing some of the most breathtaking and unspoiled scenery throughout the Pacific Northwest. And after logging all those miles, I have to say Pacific City on the Oregon Coast remains one of my all time favorite spots.

When we got to Tenterfield Park some birds were flying about that i hadn't seen there before, three Pacific Bazas were up in the treetops being harassed by Noisy Miners. It is so cool to see a new species on my birthday, photo opportunities were limited as the hawks went from tree to tree but i got some shots. This photo has been cropped.

This species can be found in many areas of Asia including the oceanic region of India, Southeast Asia, East Asia, Polynesia, and in Australia, Tasmania and New Zealand. The species displays an unusual, non-sexual dimorphism, with some members having entirely white plumage and others (the larger portion) being charcoal-grey. The reason for the colour variation or "morph", is unknown, though it is most commonly thought to be related to camouflage. Their food sources are made up predominantly of varieties of ocean-based fish, crustaceans and molluscs.

Rocky shores on the northern Pacific coast.......an area visited by many birds and marine mammals as a place to rest, warm up and to breed. Many seabird species, such as penguins, shags, gannets and albatross, use the rocky Pacific shore as a nesting area and to dry off and warm up after a cold swim.

A native dogwood gracing the edges of the woodsy areas. The flowers are usually high up, since the slender trees scramble up a lot. I managed to hook a branch with my walking stick and held it in one hand while photographing with the other. Monty, my dog, was very tolerant of this strange interlude.
