Pacific Gull

As the tide went out, the receding water revealed many small rock pools that all featured fine seafood dining opportunities for an enterprising Gull.

The gulls were all fishing on the surface. The Pacific Gull had a unique approach.

We had a very cooperative pair of Pacific Loons this year in Nome. They were almost too close to focus at times!
We got a tip from a friend this day of a beached Pacific Loon. It apparently was fine as it was seen swimming with the other Pacific Loon the next day. Click for large version.
A Pacific Tree Frog sitting on a Geranium flower waiting patiently in hopes for an insect to pass by close enough to catch for a meal.
Also known as the Pacific Chorus Frog, this small amphibian has a range spanning the Pacific Northwest, from Northern California, Oregon, and Washington to British Columbia in Canada and southern Alaska. They live from sea level to more than 10,000 feet in may types of habitats, reproducing in aquatic settings. They occur in shades of greens to browns and can change colors over periods of hours and weeks.
A Pacific-slope Flycatcher with its catch visits my yard on a warm sunny afternoon.
The Pacific-slope flycatcher (Empidonax difficilis) is a small insectivorous bird of the family Tyrannidae. It is native to coastal regions of western North America, including the Pacific Ocean and the southern Gulf of California, as far north as British Columbia and southern Alaska, but is replaced in the inland regions by the Cordilleran flycatcher. These two species were formerly considered a single species known as the western flycatcher. In winter, both species migrate south to Mexico, where they are virtually indistinguishable from one another.

That is a big wide open beak, and not doubt capable of doing real damage if it connects

Rhododendron macrophyllum. On our way to our Ashnola camping adventure, we stopped for a quick break in Manning Park, at Rhododendron flats, where the Pacific Rhododendron grows wild in the forest. We caught the tail end of the bloom, just after a rainstorm, so had a magical walk through the forest.

Hercules saw me coming. So it was time to leave.

Late afternoon view over Morro Bay, Morro Rock in the distance, and unfortunately, the ugly power plant (from this distance, I suppose you have to know that it's there to even notice it), taken from a busy road between Paso Robles and the Pacific coast. Mid-April and the hillsides were already turning yellow because of the lack of rainfall this year.
A small pine gracefully dodges the raging late spring run-off of Pacific Creek flowing westward towards it's confluence with the Mokelumne River and Wilderness Area.
A Pacific Black Duck, (Anas superciliosa) captured at Rosser Park, Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia.
The Pacific Black Duck is mostly mid-brown in colour, with each feather edged buff. The head pattern is characteristic, with a dark brown line through the eye, bordered with cream above and below and a dark brown crown. The upper wing colour is the same as the back, with a bright glossy green patch in the secondary flight feathers. The white underwing is conspicuous in flight. Young Pacific Black Ducks are similar to the adults in plumage. (From Birds in Backyards).

Pacific Wrens are tiny little birds that are like many of the smaller Wrens tthat more then make up for their small size with a big voice, they also have another known trait about their song and that it is extremely long and can go on for up to 6 seconds in length.
