A native dogwood gracing the edges of the woodsy areas. The flowers are usually high up, since the slender trees scramble up a lot. I managed to hook a branch with my walking stick and held it in one hand while photographing with the other. Monty, my dog, was very tolerant of this strange interlude.

A Pacific Golden Plover seeking refuge amongst the basalt rocks at Port Fairy. The vibrant orange or yellow hues on these rocks are often caused by a type of lichen called Xanthoria, sometimes referred to as "sunburst" lichens. These lichens contain a pigment called parietin, which helps protect the lichen from intense sunlight.

Pacific Rhododendron (Rhododendron macrophyllum) thrives in moist environments, making it well-suited for rainy conditions. This native evergreen shrub is known for its striking clusters of pink to white flowers that bloom from late-spring to mid-fall in northern California, creating a vibrant display against its dark green foliage.
In different Pacific National liveries, NR70 (in PN Intermodal) and 8254 (in FreightCorp Blue) locomotives sit silently at Junee Station.

On September 26, 1998, Canadian Pacific staged a party at St. Paul Yard to celebrate the arrival of the first GE AC4400CW locomotives assigned to the former Soo Line/Milwaukee Road territory. The event showcased the 81 locomotives purchased in the CP 8500-series, many of which (recently delivered) were on hand and on display. The event also introduced the new “8-Spot” building at St. Paul where the AC4400CW locomotives were to be maintained by General Electric under warranty. CP 8522 was displayed outside alongside Soo Line SD60M 6060 and CP MP15AC 1404, the latter just back from being rebuilt and repainted. Also seen during the party were a pair of Soo Line GP7s, Nos. 383 and 370, and CP GP9 8270 (former Soo 2411) in fresh paint. Down at the east end of the 8-Spot building was CP RS18u 1839, just delivered from Canada and soon to become Minnesota Commercial 82. The party featured a food tent, a band, and tours of the 8-Spot building; the cab of CP 8525 open for tours. It was a good time!
