The sun stands still for no one, constantly changing shadows, lighting and the general atmosphere... You have little time to meditate and contemplate your subject... you must quickly decide your course of action, and with verve and emotion, capture the essence of your subject. ~ Sidney Hermel

In a small outdoor art gallery in Tbilisi, Georgia, I found this large print protecting another piece of art from the elements.

This is Piper's Hill and Dodderhill Commons, also known as Hanbury Woods. When the cattle and sheep freely grazed amongst the trees it helped to keep the forest floor open and free from saplings and too much undergrowth. Now, in order to protect the 'veterans', some of the oldest trees in the county, from competition, the Worcester Wildlife Trust manage the woodland to stop it choking up.

As one shepherd said to the other - lets get the flock out of here.

On a trip to the Isle of Skye a few years ago I spent the night at the "Tan Hill Inn" Britain's highest pub at 1,732 feet (528m) above sea level. And of course it snowed during the night.

Being on a motorbike made leaving a bit tricky - it was mid afternoon before the road was passable.

Shepherd's and sheep farmers have a hard job at the best of times but snow just makes it worse.

She built the nest in this clump of honeysuckle. The babies are gone now but it was exciting to see the activity.

Following the previous shot and being in a high traffic area the Red-Tailed Hawk tried flying with the catch but as it was too heavy did finally manage to drag it into some marsh reeds. I know the image may be disturbing to some but it is the reality of nature.

Thank you for viewing.

Evidently wild Utah is much safer now since this sign has been eliminated as a threat.

The first photo from the swan family at Lynford Arboretum in Thetford Forest. Seeing swans in a forest was a big treat, and with cygnets as well I was super excited. My favourite images of birds tend to be capturing the family bond, which I find to be an emotional ideal for us to learn from...
