No collection of shots from Northumberland could be considered complete without featuring Bamburgh. Here the mighty castle is seen from the dunes to the north together with some of the village.

The Flame-faced Tanager is one of the most spectacular members of the diverse and exceptionally colorful genus Tangara. Living up to its common name, the forehead begins as a deep glimmering red, shading into a brilliant yellow on the nape and sides of the head. This "flame" contrasts sharply with the jet black back. The Flame-faced Tanager is a common member in mixed species foraging flocks in the canopy of humid montane forest from the Andes of extreme southwest Venezuela south to central Peru. It forages exclusively along mossy branches and occasionally peering at the underside in search of arthropods. There are three subspecies of the Flame-faced Tanager, described based mostly on minor differences in plumage. The species is typically found from 1000-2600 m and is most numerous above 1500 m. The IUCN Red list assesses the Flame-faced Tanager as a species of Least Concern; however, the population size is declining due to habitat destruction. Thus, the Flame-faced Tanager should become the focus of future studies.

during our walk in the mountains last Friday we came across a troupe of Baboons not at all worried about our presence, except for this little one that was continuously watching my every move with the camera..such a sweetie to observe, obviously very protected by his parents too!
Guarding our coastline from high tides, while Rob, 'H' and I were more worried about the picnic blanket and the football!

When I stopped admiring the source of the Rhine and looked behind me, I saw these protected Alpine beauties, the large (5 - 20cm) Alpine asters! Not just one, but a whole bunch. I had to climb higher on a steep slope, but I absolutely wanted a good shot of them.

Tayrona National Natural Park - This park is a protected area along Colombia's northern Caribbean shores. Along with it's beautiful blue water are mountainous hiking trails up to the ruins of Pueblito. The ruins were built by the Tayrona civilization.
These Caribbean waters are very turbulent in many places. On one of the days that I was there, a swimmer got pulled out by current undertows. It was touch and go for this guy for several hours. Everyone watched in horror as several rescue attempts were made. Eventually a jet ski pulled him out. Exhausted and freaked out he never got in the water again.
No motorized vehicles are allowed so you have to hike in with all of your camping gear or have supplies carried in by horses
