Allards at Greenwich Concurs Show 2021

A cold evening with a warm light. Time to enjoy the frozen lake view with proper warm gear. Thanks for stopping by, much appreciated and have a warm week!

Back to what i enjoy doing best, spending some time on my favourite boat filled beach, you just never know what you are going to capture.

... for a good start to the new week!

Happy Blue Monday!

I inherited this plant, native to Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay, and Argentina, from my mother. She had them at her windowsills as long as I can remember ...

The whole blossom can be seen in first comment:

Some days it pays to go out and shoot as you never know what you'll get. CP has quickly integrated KCS power on various trains through out their system. Before the merger was approved and CN had a competing bid, I was quietly cheering CP on for my own selfish reasons as CP's roster had become stale to me after they repainted all the 60's and replaced the "good" power with ECO's. I was heading to Newport when I over heard KCS 3952 tone up the dispatcher in Hastings, so I made my way down to Blackbird siding to watch J20 roll by. Unfortunately this would be a one and done situation with solid clouds to the south.

Would like to think i have done what the boats name suggests, the sun was setting behind me and the sky was not as good as this, I'm quite pleased with the final result.

The best breakfast I have had in Britain for many years so I thought it deserved a post. This was at a cafe near Ambergate Station between Belper and Matlock in Derbyshire.

In case you're wondering - yes I did eat it all and no I didn't eat for the rest of the day!

A scene that warmed the heart of this particular railfan catches a covered and functioning stabling point, together with shiny tracks, and a collection of semaphores. Oh, and a pair of 1970s-built 'Grids' operating one of the few locomotive-hauled services to visit the area.

Based in Preston, this was the first full day of our tour of the north-west and we opted for a brief visit to the port town of Holyhead - so brief in fact that arrival was at 11.44am and departure at 1.07pm. Nevertheless the tight window gave me time to search out the footbridge not too far from the station and capture the incoming Rail-Head Treatment Train, and thus snap the service we'd passed as it stood looped in Llandudno Junction station. Happy days!

I had time to take a shot of it heading back towards Bangor too, but this one made the better image I thought. A pity the old, and much more convenient, entrance to Holyhead station seems to be out of service. Getting out now entails walking across a long footbridge into town and the phone I was using as a map (which indicated the original entrance) pointed out the walk would now take me almost 10 minutes longer than I had anticipated and risk me missing it’s arrival. Happily good luck prevailed.

For the record, Colas units 56094 and 56096 are doing the honours, and the train is the previous day's 9.20pm Shrewsbury Coleham - Shrewsbury Coleham (3S71) RHTT service.

For anyone interested the DMU on shed is TfW's unit 158819, which is receiving attention for a brake fault.

The road on the left is the A55 'North Wales Expressway' - beloved (or not) by truck-drivers making their way between Ireland and England, as well as the Channel Ports.

BRC&W class 26 no. 26032 stands at Dingwall with an unidentified southbound service to Inverness.

I would shortly be taking a train up to the most northerly extremity of the UK rail network, Thurso. Hardly the best conditions, as can be seen, and they hardly improved the further north I went with that fine, but quick to drench, Scotch rain. I would eventually take the bus from Thurso to Wick, stay overnight in a B&B, before returning down the other leg of the line from Georgemas Junction.

This has been my only ride to date along the delightful line to the Far North - but repeating it on a DMU somehow just doesn't appeal.

This cairn is one I have regularly rebuilt on each visit......this time, no need as someone has done a great job on it, even providing a seat. August weather....windy, cool, horizontal drizzle....wonderful...not.
