The Uffington White Horse is a highly stylised prehistoric hill figure, 374 feet (110 m) long, and dates back some 3,000 years, to the Bronze Age.
Uffington Castle is all that remains of an early Iron Age (with underlying Bronze Age) hill fort in Oxfordshire, England. It covers about 32,000 square metres and is surrounded by two earth banks separated by a ditch with an entrance in the eastern end.
Dragon Hill is a natural chalk hill with an artificial flat-top which clings the legend that it was on its summit that Saint George slew the dragon. A bare patch of chalk upon which no grass will grow is purported to be where the dragon's blood spilled. It has been suggested as some sort of Iron Age ritual site associated with the nearby hill-figure.
The Ridgeway is an ancient trackway described as Britain's oldest road. At 85 miles (137 km), the route follows the chalk hills between Overton Hill, near Avebury, and Ivinghoe Beacon in Buckinghamshire and represents part of a route in use since Neolithic times.
The Manger steep is a steep sided dry valley. Ripples in the eastern valley side are known as the Giants Stairs and are a reminder of how the valley was created by scouring melt-water during the retreat of the last Ice Age. A terrace along the lower edge of the western slopes is thought to be the remains of medieval farming practice.
DENVER CITY AND COUNTY BUILDING, DENVER
The construction of a new government center for the combined City and County of Denver was initiated by Mayor Benjamin F. Stapleton in 1924, although including it in the Denver Civic Center was first proposed as early as 1906.
This American Renaissance Styled building was completed in 1932. Balancing the State Capitol across an expanse of lawns, it fulfilled the ideals of the City Beautiful Movement proponents who had worked on the Civic Center plans for more than two decades.
The new City Hall replaced two buildings. One was the 1883 City Hall at Speer Boulevard and Larimer Street, a four-story stone structure. The jail was in the basement, and prisoners were in danger of drowning when nearby Cherry Creek flooded. The new City and County Building also replaced the old Arapahoe County Building at Sixteenth Street and Court Place, later the site of Zeckendorf Plaza.
The new City Hall was designed by the Allied Architects Association of Denver, organized by the Colorado Chapter of the American Institute of Architects. Its mission was to aid Mayor Stapleton in designing the new civic structure. The site selected was bounded by West Colfax Avenue, West Fourteenth Street, Bannock, and Cherokee, as suggested in the 1917 Civic Center plan.
Ground was broken in March 1929, and the cornerstone laid February 1931. Voters approved a $2.5 million bond issue in 1931, the same year that they voted Stapleton out of office. His successor, George D. Begole, reluctantly continued the project, working with the Allied Architects under the leadership of Denver architect Robert K. Fuller. Supervising architect from 1929 to 1931 was Roland L. Linder. The building was dedicated by Mayor Begole on August 1, 1932.
The four-story building is shaped in a semi-circle, opening east toward Civic Center Park and the State Capitol. At its center is a circular bell tower and a tall Roman temple style portico with Corinthian columns.
The east facade is embellished with engaged Ionic columns. The building was faced with gray granite. The project employed 250 stone carvers, who also detailed the marbles of the interior. Six hundred rail cars brought stone from Georgia and parts of Colorado. Among the building's 200 rooms are City Council Chambers, the Mayor's Office, and spaces once occupied by the Denver Art Museum.
The building has been decked out in colored lights every Christmas since its doors opened. A $10 million refurbishment during 1991 and 1992 restored the grand lobby, Allen True's mural "The Miners' Court" and Gladys Caldwell Fisher's life-sized bas-relief "Orpheus and the Animals."

Even with really expired Fuji 400 asa colour print film, converted to b&w in iPhoto, and a bog basic Tesco low-res supermarket scan, the old un-coated 1938 Leitz Summar & Rohypnol still manages to deliver something special I think.
It's not a "sharp" lens by any means but it's the highlights - they always seem to look different to those produced by modern lenses, or even those from a later Summitar or Summicron.
They have that unique and characteristic "glow" it appears to me.
And the Rohypnol "date rape" drug I've administered to Brian in generous quantity doesn't just keep the sitter quiet, but it helps them to forget (if they need any help) what you've just charged them for the portrait.
These old Summars may not be to everyone's taste, but I do love the old lump for natural light portrait work.
This shot of my good neighbour Brian is definitely best viewed on black.

Being here it's so fucking boring. - imitating Sheryl – Since “miss Sheryl” decided to “work really hard” and “has no time” to assembly a simple little diorama with a videogames station because “you can't imagine the amount of work I have to do because I have to blahblahblah I'm don't care a piece of shit what you say...” then, well... that's it, I'm just freaking bored... FUJIFILM FinePix X100

Photokina
A crop to show the relative size of the camera in the hands of a user...
It felt quite nice, though the two prototype models were battened down so you couldn't gauge weight, etc. Also, what you see here (and, I'm sure, many other places) is not the actual camera. They showed that in a case, with nice leather and a proper metal body.
Focus was quick and intuitive (they had a poster of a kitten and it honed in on the eyes) and all the adjustments you would typically make whilst shooting were easily accessible. All in all, a very intriguing camera.
I think I want one ;)

This photo means a lot to me.
It was taken 21th of September 2008 in Trollhättan, Sweden, in the surrounding woods of NÄL (a large hospital).
From left to right, the picture holds one of my brothers, my mother, her man and our dog.
The reason I hold this photo dear is because this is the day the struggle began, both for my mom and for our family and friends. The doctors found a tumor in my mothers stomach. A week later she was diagnosed with cancer.
*** UPDATED ***
My mother has undergone a large surgical operation. She is recovering fine right now, but she still awaits chemotherapy and radation-therapy.
*** UPDATED **
Complications. She had another surgery. Trying to fight an infection at the same time.
*** UPDATE February 2009 ***
Progress! She has woken up from 7 weeks of coma. Has been in recovery after that for a couple of weeks and had her first day of permission from the hospital! Hope!
*** UPDATE March 2009***
She's home! A nurse visits her 2 times per day, but she's managing just fine. I couldn't have wished for anything better!
This weekend, there was a house in our city, (about five minutes walking distance), that was having an open house yard sell.
Their house was built in 1904. (My house was built in 1890.) I'm in LOVE with old, antique, vintage stuff. From houses, to clothing, to CAMERAS, to LIFESTYLES.
These people knew exactly how to live in that completely vintage, old-fashioned way. Their home wasn't ever air conditioned. And they've been living there since 1988. Well, little did I know, but the man living there is a WIDELY known photographer.
www.garygruby.com/ <--His website!
He does AMAZING things with his many cameras. He is selling SEVERAL vintage cameras, including some SUPER awesome collapsible Polaroid cameras. He was a very inspiring and very talented older man, and just speaking to him was such a pleasure. :]
I hope all of you get to have experiences like I had.
Math test Thursday. So I'll be studying hardcore. :[ Pray for me! I'm so nervous :[
ANYWAYS, on to five random things you may or may not know about me. (I've been tagged so many times for so many things, I can't even count. I tag everyone by the way ;])
1. My dreams are almost ALWAYS realistic. It's quite aggravating actually. I'd rather have trippy, yet awesome dreams, rather than waking up wondering if I ACTUALLY met Justin Bieber. :|
2. I'm a good friend. I'm not saying because I'm proud. I'm saying it because I strive to be by my friend's sides. I want them to be happy, to make good decisions, to remember who they are, to go for their goals, to love, to have fun, to explore, and to really be able to trust me as a friend. I'll hold in a secret until the day I die, and I love helping people with their problems, or just being there for them to talk to. I know I can't always hang out with people, but I'm always here if you need to talk. This means all you Flickrists as well!
3. I love SO many different types of music. Back in highschool, I was STRICTLY into heavier music. (Metal, hardcore, screamo, etc.) But lately, I've been digging mostly everything. I love reggae, mainstream, pop-punk, rap, hip hop, indie, techno, rock, classic rock, hardcore, metal. Everything except country mainly. :P
4. My favorite bands/singers lately are!: Katy Perry, The Noisettes, MGMT, B.O.B., Nicki Minaj, Avenged Sevenfold, and Lady Gaga. There are many more I just can't remember. :[
5. I've been drinking ONLY water, (and the occasional coffee) for the past two weeks! And I must say, I've had less acne, and more energy!
Hope you enjoyed, and learned a thing or two about me! Interact with me in the comments! :] What're some bands I should check out?

I think that couch is so ugly, and it is beyond uncomfortable, but at least we have one right?
I've been listing to my brother play all day, and man his new music sounds SO INCRECDIBLE, he is so beyond talented, he's gifted. His music gives me the chills, it sets me in this mood that exhilarates my soul, makes me feel tranquil, makes me cry. I can't explain it. I go into a world, and i make up all these stories and i feel like his music is speaking to me, my past, my present, everything. I just ahh i love my gifted family. These little girls were standing on their balcony listing to his music,he's a pianist and a composer, but he makes his own music he's gifted, since his window was open and they were so mesmerized and in a way it seemed as if his music was hypnotizing them, they couldn't go inside they were enjoying it so much..That boys music makes people cry. man. I can't wait for his 3rd cd!! He wants to compose for movies, that's what he wants to do the most. I know he can do it, his music moves people, i swear.

I'm going to talk to my dad's friend, who is a Nutritionist, and ask her what schooling i need and etc, i've wanted to be one for the longest time but i don't want to write a book or be a nurse so i figured i'd give up on that dream, but i love it so much. I want to be one dangit. So wish me luck:D 8years or not for schooling doesn't bother me, as long as i can afford it. Next week i'm going to call FASA(which is financial aid) and ask them if i am still getting my grant, change my address and ask what i need to do to finalize it. Then in a couple months or so i'm going to start applying for EVERY scholarship i can get my hands on so when i start college in jan 2011 i will be able to afford school for years. woot! Today is amazing. I'm going to have a huge baked potato for dinner(mmm) and mabye a small thing of organic whole wheat pasta..we will see. I need to start eating beans again, i keep forgetting haha. Jonel really is the greatest guy in the world, and i'm constantly learning new things about him..he's so unpredictable and never ceases to amaze me. I can't wait until he comes to visit, i know i'm so repetitive but gah you can't begin to understand the love that pangs in my chest for this boy!:D

The S boasted modifications typical of a higher-performance Porsche: these included a re-profiled cam, larger valves, better porting, loftier compression (9.8:1 vs. 9.0) and larger jets for the Weber carburettors (which were otherwise much like those given to the base 911 from early '66).
The result was 30 more horsepower, totalling 180 horsepower, furthermore the torque improved fractionally to 127 pound-feet, peaking fully at 1,000 rpm higher.
Unlike other models, the S lacked a choke, but pumping the accelerator was usually enough for starting. On the other hand, merely blipping the throttle on the freer-breathing S would send the tacho needle zinging to its 7,300 rpm redline. Porsche thus wisely fitted an ignition cut-out that interrupted spark to the plugs when it neared maximum revs, thus protecting the valve-train from overly enthusiastic drivers.
Naturally, the S also received chassis upgrades to match its extra power. These included a rear anti-roll bar (augmenting the one in front), Koni shocks, ventilated instead of solid-rotor disc brakes all-round and, soon to be a 911 hallmark, pretty five-spoke Fuchs alloy wheels that cut five pounds from the unsprung weight at each hub.
S gear ratios were evenly spaced except for the five-speed transmission's overdrive top, which was purposely very “high”. It gave 100 mph at 4,200 rpm, hardly a strain for the free-revving flat-six. Pulling a max rpm in the lower gears allowed the model to net 0-60 in eight seconds or less, running a standing quarter-mile of under 16 seconds at 90-plus mph.
Built in 1968 this fine example is finished in white with a contrasting black interior, and we're informed that it is in excellent condition throughout having undergone a full restoration. The interior is described as being “flawless”, boasting a period Grundig radio.
The car resided in Italy for many years and is now presented with a UK MoT certificate which is valid until July 2015, and is accompanied with European title documents. A fine example of a highly desirable motor car, and with values ever increasing, now is the time to buy one of Zuffenhausen's finest.
Worms, anyone? I've got plenty to go 'round.
So much for a break from silly self portraits, haha. From my last 52 week entry:
I figure I could use a break from the more fun and silly self's for this 52 week'r.
Growing up I used to love those gummy candies that are available at Walgreens and other corner convenience stores. My favorites were the gummy candies that were lathered and coated in sugar. More particularly the peach rings, and the sugar battered creepy crawlies.
It's been a while since I've indulged in the gummy goodness. Until today at least. I went to Safeway and swooped up a bag of non-sugar coated worms. They were great tasting ... at first. on nom nom nom
While taking this series of self portraits I repeatedly found myself chewing and eating the gummy worms. I downed so many that they tasted absolutely horrendous by the time I got the shot I wanted.
For the record, that is indeed a real jumbo sized creepy crawly slimey squirming live wriggling pulsing night crawling earthworm in my left hand!
Who said worms aren't cute? Earthworms are cool. And tapeworms are cute.
In any case, with Happy Hallow right around the corner -stay safe, and have fun out there everyone!

This is Bruno Zacchini's Super Repeating Cannon. It resides in the Museum of the Circus in Sarasota, Florida.
"Flying isn't the hard part; landing in the net is" - Mario Zacchini
John Ringling saw the Zacchinis perform at Tivoli Gardens in Copenhagen, where he signed Hugo and Bruno (brothers) Zacchinni for the 1929 season of Ringling Brothers Circus. Over the years, the Zachinni family has dominated the human cannonball tradition. From the earliest 1900s, the Zachini brothers and their children have amazed thousands with their death-defying performance.
In 1946-47, the first Super-repeating cannon was designed and built by Bruno Zacchini with the assistance of his brother, Teobaldo in Sarasota. They used a GMC truck as the base. Bruno's daughter, Silvana, at the age of 16, became the first woman to be shot from this cannon. Later she was joined by her aunt, Simone Loyal, as a double human cannon ball act. Hugo was the last of the family members to take flight on August 29, 1991. The Zacchini's also suffered several serious accidents, including one, where two of them collided in mid air having been simultaneously shot from opposing cannons.
In 1961, this particular cannon would shoot 2 performers nearly 140' through the air in seconds of each other at speeds of 125 mph. The cannon is 37' long including the cab, 8' wide, and 20' high with the barrel raised. It is mounted on a Mack truck.
The operating mechanism has been removed--it remains a closely guarded family secret.
The cannon was made available to the museum through the courtesy of Silvana Zacchini Meluza.

Moggs got silly and made some signs with a built -in animation for those wanting to protest the war between the great Plurk nations of World of Warcraft and Second Life. (These signs are plurk related humour based on the fact Second Life and World of Warcraft are now listed as countries on plurk). Truth be known, Moggs may have made the signs because she was seriously bored and it was way too hot in her part of Australia to do anything constructive.
These protest signs and related animations are intended to be FREELY available to Second Life residents. Feel free to pass copies on to your friends. Modify them as you please for your own protests, rallies or photo opportunities.
Provided protest sign textures include:
- Make SLove not warcraft;
- I can't believe we still have to protest this crap;
- make love not war;
- Ork off, we don't want your warcraft on our shores;
- Say no to bling;
- Silence the shoes;
- Where does it end?
*'Make SLov, not warcraft' slogan suggested by Dain Rexen / Mandatory Chaos from Plurk
The background texture for the signs is included full perm and you can do what you like with it and use it as a base to create your own signs if you like.
Permissions:
- the actual sign is full perm and you can modify it and use it as you please
- animation/poses are copy/transfer - there are three different types A, B, C. A is a priority 2; B and C are available as both priority 1 and priority 2.
- All textures are copy/transfer except the background which is full perm.
- Updates: While it's unlikely the sign will change, you never know when the heat will get to Moggs again, so the package and each sign contain update scripts. Should we add signs or animations in the future for other protests, you'll automatically be sent an update.

The Cathedral of Morelia is a religious compound headquarters of the Archdiocese of Morelia of the Catholic Church in Mexico. It is located as the name itself says it in the city of Morelia, capital of Michoacan, Mexico. The cathedral is located on the first frame of the city, forming the trace of the Historic Center of Morelia. The building was built in the eighteenth century the Spanish colonial times, is in Baroque style and is made of pink quarry which gives it a distinctive and characteristic color.
# Architecturally, the Cathedral of Morelia compared against other Cathedrals in Mexico is similar to the Metropolitan Cathedral in Mexico City, Puebla Cathedral, and even inside the Cathedral of Guadalajara.
# The cathedral is the most emblematic and representative buildings of Morelia given their height, since it has two tall towers that can be seen throughout the valley of the city. For his height, the towers of the Catedral de Morelia (66.8 m) are the fourth highest in Mexico after the towers of the Sanctuary of Guadalupe (Cathedral Unfinished) in Zamora de Hidalgo (105 m) of the cathedral in Villahermosa (80 m) and the Sanctuary of Guadalupe, San Luis Potosi (68 m).
# Has a unique scenic beauty lighting placed by the company that lit the Eiffel Tower in Paris. On weekends, the cathedral offers a sound and light show with this lighting.
# The cathedral is dedicated to the Transfiguration and its interior houses two highly venerated image, Sacred Heart of Jesus who is the patron saint of the city, and the Lord of the Sacristy a Christ very old paste made of cornstalks. Which is much visited and loved by the congregation.
# Its beautiful architecture and history are other reasons why it has become an icon of the city.
# Inside this enclosure because of its beauty, sound and spacious sound, set for a variety of artistic and cultural events as the International Organ Festival in Morelia, and the International Music Festival of Morelia.
The current cathedral of Morelia was not the only cathedral in the city has had since 1580, when civil and ecclesiastical powers were transferred from Patzcuaro Michoacan to Valladolid (Morelia previous name), opened a cathedral, much lower the current size and artistic value. That building was located on the corner of the present streets of Corregidor and Abasolo. However, due to growth experienced by the city at the end of s. Sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries, and because of a fire in 1584 severely affected the former cathedral building, it became necessary to think of another temple, larger, robust and important. That is why at the beginning of s. XVII the cathedral chapter began efforts to build the new cathedral.
Many projects were proposed, but until mid-century the project was accepted by the Italian architect Vincenzo Barrochio, also known as the Plaster Vicente Barroso by the Viceroy Francisco Fernandez de la Cueva, Duke of Albuquerque on March 22, 1660 concluding continuous procedures and construction projects over a long period of almost 80 years.
On May 6, 1660 the first stone of the building was laid by Bishop Fray Marcos Ramírez del Prado. The building itself was given by Vicenzo Barrochio until his death in 1692, why the great architect could not see completed his monumental work. However, only 52 years after the death of the teacher, his pupils got through the daunting task of architecture, so that the magnificent work was completed in 1744.
The cathedral suffered several raids by the army for independence, in the year 1810. By the end of the nineteenth century built the perimeter fence that marks the atrium. In the late 90s of the twentieth century restoration work carried out various internal and external, thereby better preserved the beauty of the building. Also, in the early twenty-first century, opened the new stage lighting of the cathedral of Morelia.

View On Black, or View my most interesting stream ON BLACK!
It's been a while since I did a photo walk around sunset time. Not only because I've got tighter schedule back in Taiwan, but also the weather condition is far from OK to get a decent sunset view... Nevertheless here I am in the middle of nowhere around coastal shore in Chunghwa, central Taiwan, trying to capture the sunset!
As a matter of fact, I did not reach the destination I originally planned to. I was both late and lost when trying to locate the beach I wanted to be... I made up my mind to make some shots at the beach near where I pulled over my car! But before I could reach the beach, I needed to climb over concrete groyne fields. I think it's worthwhile as I kind of like the simplicity of the view here!
Honestly speaking the real challenge is how to get back to the car after sunset shooting. Imagine the situation... I was carrying "sandy" tripod, climbed up big cement stones, with my rainboots and in the dark! It's really spooky! I'm glad I managed to survive here! lol...

The Collector Earl's Garden (Arundel Castle), Opened by HRH The Prince of Wales on 14th May 2008.
The new formal garden at Arundel has been conceived as a light-hearted tribute to Thomas Howard, 14th Earl of Arundel (1585-1646), known as ‘The Collector’. He died in exile in Padua during the English Civil War and though his body was brought back to England and buried in the Fitzalan Chapel at Arundel, the elaborate tomb which he had specified in his will was never erected. This garden, adjoining the church, may now be an appropriate memorial for the future.

Arundel Castle in Arundel, West Sussex, England is a restored medieval castle. It was founded by Roger de Montgomery on Christmas Day 1067. Roger became the first to hold the earldom of Arundel by the graces of William the Conqueror. The castle was damaged in the English Civil War and then restored in the 18th and 19th centuries.
From the 11th century onward, the castle has served as a hereditary stately home and has been in the family of the Duke of Norfolk for over 800 years. It is still the principal seat of the Norfolk family.

"The People of Japan"
A Tribute By Tom Van Dorn
www.facebook.com/home.php#!/video/video.php?v=12992426969...
"How amazing are the Japanese people that, in the face of such disaster and chaos, they preserve their sense of community and dignity, and in the midst of all the grief and uncertainty they turn to caring and sharing.
It’s not the events that define our lives but the way we respond to them, and the way it shapes our spirit and our evolution.
May the great wave also be the wave of our compassion and giving."

UPDATE ON BABY PIGEONS ON THE PATIO:
For those of you who have been following this story of the baby pigeions growing up in a hanging basket on our patio, you know that the larger one (whom I called Henry), had gone missing. I thought for sure he had been taken by a cat. :-(
But, when I got up the next morning I looked outside to check on Henrietta (the remaining baby pigeon), and lo and behold, there was Henry on the straw mat on the ground in front of the dining room doors! I went outside and carefully took him in my hands (he was so warm!) and placed him back in the nest with Henrietta. He seemed really happy to be back there.
Well, Henry (or perhaps it was Henrietta?) fell out of the basket again yesterday, and it is not surprising because they are getting pretty big now. My sister put her back in the basket and they both seem to be doing well, growing like crazy. Here they are at 3 weeks old. Now they are about the same size and I can't tell who is Henry or Henrietta!
INFORMATION ON THE PIGEON:
The Rock Pigeon (Columba livia), or Rock Dove, is a member of the bird family Columbidae (doves and pigeons). In common usage, this bird is often simply referred to as the "pigeon". The species includes the domestic pigeon, and escaped domestic pigeons have given rise to the feral pigeon.
Wild Rock Pigeons are pale grey with two black bars on each wing, although domestic and feral pigeons are very variable in colour and pattern. There are few visible differences between males and females. The species is generally monogamous, with two squabs (young) per brood. Both parents care for the young for a time.
Habitats include various open and semi-open environments, including agricultural and urban areas. Cliffs and rock ledges are used for roosting and breeding in the wild. Originally found wild in Europe, North Africa, and western Asia, feral Rock Pigeons have become established in cities around the world. The species is abundant, with an estimated population of 17 to 28 million feral and wild birds in Europe.
The Rock Pigeon breeds at any time of the year, but peak times are spring and summer. Nesting sites are situated along coastal cliff faces, as well as the artificial cliff faces created by apartment buildings with accessible ledges or roof spaces.
The type of nest constructed is a flimsy platform of straw and sticks, put on ledge, under cover. Often window ledges of buildings. Two white eggs are laid with incubation that is shared by both parents lasting from seventeen to nineteen days.
The nestling has pale yellow down and a flesh-coloured bill with a dark band. It is tended and fed on "crop milk" like other doves. The fledging period is 30 days.

Poroiba - Akau - Wigschool - Pruikenschool
The wigmen of the Huli people aren't like Western toupee manufacturers. They are wizards who only work with people who have fine heads of hair.
What a traditional wigman does is use ancient magic to make hair grow faster than normal so it can be cut off and turned into a wig. Evidently, magic - like hair restorer - doesn't work if the hair is long gone.
This singular way of making hairpieces is found in the Tari Valley, 2000m up in the Highlands of PNG, an area just starting to make the transition from the old ways of centuries past to the new ideas which have begun to flow from the outside world.
When I explored the villages and roadside markets around the lodge, most of the men I met were wearing caps, but a good number still went about their daily business dressed in the traditional wigs.
In fact many had not one but two wigs - a plain day wig shaped like an upturned bowl, and an ornate ceremonial wig decorated with bird feathers - possession of which, like ownership of many pigs or having more than one wife, is a sign of wealth and status.
As a result the wigmen are still much in demand. And, this being a place where magic is taken very seriously, they are deeply respected. The sign welcoming visitors to Tari Airport highlights the fact that the area is "Home to the Huli wigman."

Something like
The chapel now known as the "St. Anthony", is situated in a plantaforma on Fisherman's Beach in the town of Ericeira, forming the epicenter of the progression of the urban village. It is said today that divides north from south
On the history of the chapel, little is known, especially prior to sec. XVII. Some records show her as coeval to the Parish (sec XV), no traces recorded material this time.
It was the chapel of the House, the first near the Palace of the County. It is known that in 1609, it was the headquarters of the brotherhood of Our Lady of Good Voyage of the Men of the Sea and it followed from their sessions .. In 1645, became the Chapel of Our Lady of Good Voyage.
He was also in this chapel that served the Brotherhood of St. Anthony, brotherhood of unmarried girls.
It is curious that this chapel is well patron saint double, both with the same degree of importance.
Chapel of modest proportions singia is not only to worship but also a "lighthouse" signaling the entry of boats in the harbor of Praia dos Pescadores, serving it to the small bell placed in a niche in the wall of the west ..
In 1645 it was lined with polychrome tiles, funded by the offer of a ring of great value, forming different patterns, among which, on the triumphal arch, still retained a small log of Our Lady of Good Voyage and Child, surrounded six winged heads of angels, with the monograms of Christ, Mary and Joseph and dated 1634.

Chevrolet Corvette
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"The Chevrolet Corvette, known colloquially as the Vette, is a sports car manufactured by Chevrolet. The car has been produced through seven generations.
The first model, a convertible, was designed by Harley Earl and introduced at the GM Motorama in 1953 as a concept show car. Myron Scott is credited for naming the car after the type of small, maneuverable warship called a corvette.
Originally built in Flint, Michigan and St. Louis, Missouri, the Corvette is currently manufactured in Bowling Green, Kentucky and is the official sports car of the Commonwealth of Kentucky."
(...)
- First generation-C1 (1953–1962)
- Second generation-C2 (1963–1967)
- Third generation-C3 (1968–1982)
"The third generation Corvette, patterned after the Mako Shark II concept car, was introduced for the 1968 model year and was in production until 1982.
C3 coupes featured the first use of T-top removable roof panels."
(...)
"There was an extended production run for the 1969 model year due a lengthy labor strike, which meant sales were down on the 1970 models, to 17,316.[35] 1970 small-block power peaked with the optional high compression, high-revving LT-1 that produced 370 bhp (276 kW). The 427 big-block was enlarged to 454 cu in (7.44 L) with a 390 bhp (291 kW) rating. The ZR-1 special package was an option available on the 1970 through 1972 model years, and included the LT-1 engine combined with special racing equipment. Only 53 ZR-1's were built."
(...)
"In 1971, to accommodate regular low-lead fuel with lower anti-knock properties, the engine compression ratios were lowered which resulted in reduced power ratings. The power rating for the 350 cu in (5.7 L) L48 base engine decreased from 300 to 270 horsepower and the optional special high performance LT1 engine decreased from 370 to 330 horsepower." (...)
"Although the 1972 model's 350 cu in (5.7 L) horsepower was actually the same as that for the 1971 model year, the lower net horsepower numbers were used instead of gross horsepower. The L48 base engine was now rated at 200 bhp (150 kW) and the optional LT1 engine was now rated at 270 bhp (200 kW).
1974 models had the last true dual exhaust system that was dropped on the 1975 models with the introduction of catalytic converters requiring the use of no-lead fuel. Engine power decreased with the base ZQ3 engine producing 165 bhp (123 kW), the optional L82's output 250 bhp (186 kW), while the 454 big-block engine was discontinued.
Gradual power increases after 1975 peaked with the 1980 model's optional L82 producing 230 bhp (172 kW)."
"Styling changed subtly throughout the generation until 1978 for the car's 25th anniversary. The Sting Ray nameplate was not used on the 1968 model, but Chevrolet still referred to the Corvette as a Sting Ray; however, the 1969 (through 1976) models used the "Stingray" name as one word, without the space."
(...)
"The 1978 25th Anniversary model introduced the fastback glass rear window and featured a new interior and dashboard. Corvette's 25th anniversary was celebrated with the Indy 500 Pace Car limited edition and a Silver Anniversary model featuring silver over gray lower body paint.
All 1979 models featured the previous year's pace car seats and offered the front and rear spoilers as optional equipment.
53,807 were produced for the model year, making 1979 the peak production year for all versions of the Corvette. Sales have trended downward since then.
In 1980, the Corvette received an integrated aerodynamic redesign that resulted in a significant reduction in drag. After several years of weight increases, 1980 Corvettes were lighter as engineers trimmed both body and chassis weight.
In mid-1981, production shifted from St. Louis, Missouri to Bowling Green, Kentucky, and several two-tone paint options were offered.
The 1981 models were the last available with a manual transmission until well into the 1984 production run.
In 1982, a fuel-injected engine returned, and a final C3 tribute Collectors Edition featured an exclusive, opening rear window hatch."
- Fourth generation-C4 (1984–1996)
- Fifth generation-C5 (1997–2004)
- Sixth generation-C6 (2005–2013)
- Seventh generation-C7 (2014–present)

El Alto is the sister city of La Paz, right next to it but above, in the altiplano. While La Paz expands downwards along the valley, with the richest population leaving in the lowest parts, El Alto is growing further from it, peopled by poor immigrants from the highlands.

A short stop by the road. I took the opportunity to photograph the grass!
Grass flowers have always appealed to me.
I remember that when I was a kid, fog grass gave me terrible hayfever. It made me itch all over and my eyes ran so much that I could hardly see. Yet, I thought the grass was so beautiful that I picked bunches of it to take home to my mother!!
Now I'm happy just to photograph it.
Going through my photos recently, someone was looking over my shoulder and when I came to the grass pictures, they said, well there's some you can delete. :-O
I am glad to find plenty of people on Flickr who recognise the beauty of grass.
Here are some of my favourite 'grass' pics. No doubt there are many more... feel free to post a link to your best grass shot(s) in the comments box! :-)

I quit smoking on Monday night. I think about having a cigarette probably every 5 minutes. It will just pop in my head "Oh, time for a smoke!!" Then I remember.
I watch that show Intervention, and I always think for an alcoholic, how sad and hard it would be to have an addiction to alcohol. To where you could NEVER have a drink for the rest of your life. I hardly ever drink, but if I want to drink I can, and I can not drink for another 8 months.
So, with cigarettes, I suppose I am like an alcoholic or any addict for that matter. I can never have another cigarette for the rest of my life.
Do you know this makes me cry inside? It isn't even that I'm addicted to the nicotine so much. I've never had a real strong "Oh my God I NEED a cigarette RIGHT NOW before I kill someone." feeling. I just truly enjoy smoking. So much so that I smoked nearly 2 packs within a 24 hour period. Yeah, I know. Crazy! I could out smoke probably anyone.
The thought of not going on a long drive on the weekend without smoking, makes me sad. What will I do??? Going and having a coffee, and not smoking? Seriously??? I've seen people do it, but I don't' know how?!
It's hard too when the dude at 7-11 knows what cigarettes I smoke, and immediatly goes for them. I went there yesterday, and had to stop him and tell him I quit.
I've had so many split second thoughts of running to 7-11 and just buying a pack. Screw it. Then I come back down to reality, and I realize the only good reason I have to continue smoking is: I like it.
I have a list of reason to not smoke. Mainly, I don't have the best genes out there. Since my Dad died at 29 years old from heart disease, dying has never been far from my mind. It's actually always been pretty much right there ever since I realized about death and dying. I want to live as long as I can, and be here to see my Grandchildren. I can't imagine anything worse then dying before my children are grown.
So, yeah. I've got quite the battle ahead of me. I'm not even 48 hours into this. I'm feeling pretty good though about it. I'm even taking out $10 a day, just to see how much money I actually throw away.
My hair still smells clean. I love that!
