We zijn aangekomen in Buka. Dit is een eilandje ietsje ten noorden van Bougainville, een buurprovincie van de Solomon eilanden in de stille zuidzee, en je merkt hier dan ook invloeden van dit land in de gebruiken en tradities. De mensen zijn donker van huidskleur.
Vrouwen zijn heel fier op hun halskettingen van geslepen schelpjes. Dit is een huwelijkscadeau. Lichaamsbeschilderingen worden zelden toegepast. Bij speciale gelegenheden dragen ze fel gekleurde borststukjes en rokjes van een soort raffia, gedroogde bladeren.
We worden ontvangen door een lokale stam. Er volgt een aangename begroeting, en onze voeten worden besprenkeld. Dit is hun welkomstgroet.

Rattlesnake Ridge (sometimes called Rattlesnake Ledge or Rattlesnake Mountain) is a mountain ridge located south of North Bend, Washington. It rises from the intersection of State Route 18 and I-90 and runs southeast about seven air miles (11 km) or eleven trail miles (18 km). It is the highest and easternmost of the Issaquah Alps (although Cedar Butte in the gap between Rattlesnake Ledge and the Cascade front at Mount Washington is considered by Harvey Manning to be a quasi-Alp). A complicated maze of abandoned logging roads and constructed trails have been strung together to provide a 13-mile (21 km) foot path from the Snoqualmie Point Trailhead at Exit 27 on I-90 all the way to the Rattlesnake Lake trailhead near Exit 32.

I realized I hadn't done anything cool with photoshop in a while, so I figured what better time to get my 'shop on than with the release of Left 4 Dead 2!
Out of all the photoshop projects I've done lately, I think this one was the most fun. It looks like I actually put some effort into it and is probably the coolest looking one so far. I decided on an original color scheme of purplish-blueish, rather than the official green/yellow. Except for the ripped thumb part (taken straight from the actual box art ._. ) everything is my own work. (But even that took a while to make it look right.)
The alternate (a.k.a. The one that's blatant advertising for the game) is in the comments. I was thinking about uploading it instead of the one here, but I had to go with the simplicity of this one. (Not the mention the word "dEAD" looks kinda funky)
P.S. I find it funny that I spent my night working on a Left 4 Dead pic, rather than actually playing it. Hmmmm... Well, that's what tonight is for. :D

This is a shot of a cement works machine near where I live.
I wasn't techincally meant to be there but I managed to abide by the law (just)!
This machine makes all sorts of weird noises that freaked me out but I liked the machine itself.
I tried to get this with the wide angle but it was just too far away. Resorted to the inferior quality kit lens but, thanks to HDR's magical properties, it doesn't matter.

El petirrojo europeo2 (Erithacus rubecula) es una especie de ave paseriforme de la familia Muscicapidae.3 Está distribuido por toda Europa, principalmente en la región meridional y occidental del continente, donde habita todo el año en Centroeuropa y es migrante parcial en el Norte de Europa y Norte de África.
Descripción
Tiene el tamaño de un gorrión común (Passer domesticus) (largo de 14 cm), pero es más ligero. Los adultos se distinguen por el color naranja intenso de su pecho y cara, sobre un plumaje pardo oliváceo. Los jóvenes carecen de color anaranjado y son marcadamente moteados de pardo oscuro y ocráceo. Destacan sus ojos grandes, negros y redondos. Los polluelos mientras están en el nido tienen el interior del pico de color amarillo verdoso. Es relativamente confiado con el hombre, pudiendo llegar a comer de su mano, en algunos casos.
Hábitat
Bosques húmedos (robledales, hayedos y otros) con abundante matorral y bosques de ribera. Muy común en parques y jardines urbanos. Es uno de los pájaros más fáciles de atraer a comederos y cajas nido. En la Península Ibérica, las poblaciones aumentan considerablemente al llegar el otoño, sobre todo en años fríos, cuando los ejemplares del norte buscan refugio en nuestras latitude
Reproducción
En el petirrojo, generalmente es la hembra la que acude al macho en su territorio. Cuando ella está esperando la segunda puesta, el macho se encarga de la alimentación de la primera. Los recién nacidos empiezan a volar a los 13-14 días de salir del huevo.
Periodo de nidificación: de abril a agosto.
Número de crías: 1-2 al año.
Número de huevos: 5-6 en cada puesta. Son blancos con puntitos marrones.
Incubación: 13-14 días.
Costumbres
El petirrojo es un pájaro muy sociable, atrevido y curioso que acostumbra a salir del bosque y plantarse a mitad de un camino para ver quién llega a su propiedad, emitiendo su característica voz de alerta: un chip-chip metálico y seco. Su canto es un gorjeo musical, muy melódico, parecido al del ruiseñor. Construye su nido en alguna oquedad resguardada en el bosque.
Alimentación
El hábitat del petirrojo europeo o común son los jardines, setos, bosquecillos. Se alimenta, mayoritariamente, de invertebrados pequeños que viven en el suelo (insectos, pequeñas arañas,sanguijuelas o gusanos). En otoño y en la primavera se alimenta también de bayas y frutos pequeños.

Monday 4th was dedicated to defend immigration rights. The main actions yere in the morning in front of the immigration center of Rostock (where a protester was injured and a couple detained) and in the afternoon, a rally at a refugee camp. This was followed by a large unauthorized demonstration, resulting in hours of waiting until the authorities allowed the protesters to go to to the harbor.

As i mentioned at the turn of the year i would be putting more effort into seascape and architectural long exposures and trying to get better at not only the shooting side but also the processing side. Ive been out quite a few times and have a few shots that im working on at the minute. Last Thursday i had a check of the tides for Friday and high tide was at 2pm which was handy as i work near Seaton Sluice and finish work at 1.30. I had intended to go to the Tank Defence blocks in my previous shot but didnt think the tide would be high enough so made the decision to go to the Sluice at the Southern end of the beach near Old Hartley. I had been here just the week before but wasnt happy with my shots.
Upon arrival i was amazed at how high the tide was compared to my last high tide visit and a bit worried as the sea was rather lively! The waves were crashing into this wall and coming over and also there were big swells coming towards the concrete section i was standing on that looked like they would breach. I kept well back and stuck my Sigma 17-70 on and proceeded to take many long exposures of both this wall and the groyne to the left of me (shown in the description).
In this 6 minute odd exposure i used my Hoya ND64 (6 Stop) & Hoya NDX400 (8.6 Stop) stacked to try and flatten out the water and get some nice streaks in the clouds which were moving pretty slowly.
Processing wise i opened the shot in Camera Raw, added a grad to the sky then a grad to the foreground to lighten. I literally couldve posted it like that but as ive recently bought the Wacom Intuos 5 i had a mess about with that and some layer adjustments.
You gotta love this beach... theres so much to shoot at any tide :D

Artist Dale Chihuly's glass art is displayed here around the rare Crested Saguaro at the Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix, Arizona. The Chihuly exhibition at the Garden is named "Chihuly: The Nature of Glass" and Chihuly's work is displayed from November 22, 2008 to May 31, 2009. The Nature of Glass exhibit features new and unique works of glass artfully located throughout the Garden. Dale Chihuly is known for his innovative glass sculptures, and his work is immediately recognizable for its grand scale and vibrant colors. This is Chihuly's first exhibition in an outdoor desert environment.

INFORMATION ON THE SAGUARO CACTUS:
The Saguaro, pronounced "sah-wah-roh", (Carnegiea gigantea) is a large, tree-sized cactus species in the monotypic genus Carnegiea. It is native to the Sonoran Desert in Arizona and California, United States and northern Mexico.
Saguaros are slow growing, taking up to 75 years to develop a side arm. The arms themselves are grown to increase the plants reproductive capacity (more apices equal more flowers and fruit). The growth rate of saguaros is strongly dependent on local precipitation patterns, and saguaros in drier western Arizona grow only half as fast as those in and around Tucson, Arizona. Some specimens may live for more than 150 years; the champion saguaro grows in Maricopa County, Arizona and is 13.8 m tall with a girth of 3.1 m. (It was injured as a result of the Cave Creek Complex fire in June 2005.) In addition to being slow growing, they are also slow to propagate. These two factors argue for the placement of the saguaro on the endangered species list, although they are not on any such list. Harming one in any manner (including cactus plugging) is illegal by state law in Arizona, and when houses or highways are built, special permits must be obtained to move or destroy any saguaro affected.
The ribs of the saguaro are used for construction and other purposes by aboriginal Americans of the region. A fine example can be seen in the roofing of the cloisters of the Mission San Xavier del Bac on the Tohono O'odham lands near Tucson, Arizona. The Seri people of northwestern Mexico used the plant, which they call mojépe, for a number of purposes.
The saguaro blossom is the state flower of Arizona.

This photo means a lot to me.
It was taken 21th of September 2008 in Trollhättan, Sweden, in the surrounding woods of NÄL (a large hospital).
From left to right, the picture holds one of my brothers, my mother, her man and our dog.
The reason I hold this photo dear is because this is the day the struggle began, both for my mom and for our family and friends. The doctors found a tumor in my mothers stomach. A week later she was diagnosed with cancer.

My mother has undergone a large surgical operation. She is recovering fine right now, but she still awaits chemotherapy and radation-therapy.

Cherating is a beach town in Pahang, Malaysia, located about 47 km north of Kuantan. It is the location of Asia’s first Club Mediterranee ("Club Med").
Cherating also houses a cultural village and a turtle sanctuary. The turtles lay their eggs between July and August.
The most well known wave in Malaysia and the epicentre for Malaysian surfing. A left point break that peels over a very long sand bar into Cherating beach. The potential here is for kilometer long rides but most days when it is working you will have to put up with only a couple of hundred! Like the rest of the region Cherating relies on the monsoon generated windswell and can be surfed even on the smallest of days.
This weekend, there was a house in our city, (about five minutes walking distance), that was having an open house yard sell.
Their house was built in 1904. (My house was built in 1890.) I'm in LOVE with old, antique, vintage stuff. From houses, to clothing, to CAMERAS, to LIFESTYLES.
These people knew exactly how to live in that completely vintage, old-fashioned way. Their home wasn't ever air conditioned. And they've been living there since 1988. Well, little did I know, but the man living there is a WIDELY known photographer.

1. My dreams are almost ALWAYS realistic. It's quite aggravating actually. I'd rather have trippy, yet awesome dreams, rather than waking up wondering if I ACTUALLY met Justin Bieber. :|
2. I'm a good friend. I'm not saying because I'm proud. I'm saying it because I strive to be by my friend's sides. I want them to be happy, to make good decisions, to remember who they are, to go for their goals, to love, to have fun, to explore, and to really be able to trust me as a friend. I'll hold in a secret until the day I die, and I love helping people with their problems, or just being there for them to talk to. I know I can't always hang out with people, but I'm always here if you need to talk. This means all you Flickrists as well!
3. I love SO many different types of music. Back in highschool, I was STRICTLY into heavier music. (Metal, hardcore, screamo, etc.) But lately, I've been digging mostly everything. I love reggae, mainstream, pop-punk, rap, hip hop, indie, techno, rock, classic rock, hardcore, metal. Everything except country mainly. :P
4. My favorite bands/singers lately are!: Katy Perry, The Noisettes, MGMT, B.O.B., Nicki Minaj, Avenged Sevenfold, and Lady Gaga. There are many more I just can't remember. :[
5. I've been drinking ONLY water, (and the occasional coffee) for the past two weeks! And I must say, I've had less acne, and more energy!

THE S.S. WANDY.
The fourteenth boat built by Mr. D. Sullivan was successfully launched at his Coopernook yards on Saturday last [1st June 1907], in the presence of several hundred spectators— the christening ceremony being performed by Miss Vera Sullivan (a grand-niece of Mr. Sullivan), who gracefully named the steamer "Wandy" as she left the ways. As is usual with Mr. Sullivan's launchings, not the slightest hitch occurred. The name Wandy is derived from Wandyan, on the South Coast, where Messrs. Allen Taylor & Co. are opening up the timber trade at St. George's Basin, near Jervis Bay. The firm has a mill there, and is working what is practically a virgin forest.
The new boat, which is of ordinary build, with a round bilge, is owned by Messrs. Allen Taylor and Co., and is to be placed in the timber trade. She is 125 feet long overall, and 120 feet between perpendiculars, with a 26ft. beam, and has a capacity for 60,000 feet of timber — this being equivalent to 180 tons dead weight, or 1800 bags of maize. The timber will be carried in a large hatch amidships. With the exception of that in the deck, which is Oregon, all the timber used in the construction of the vessel was obtained locally. The keel and keelsons are ironbark, the planking blackbutt and flooded gum, and the frames hardwood. Two masts, each 65ft. in length, will be fitted. The vessel will be of the twin-screw type, and will be electrically-lighted throughout. Accommodation will be provided for a crew of 12—the captain's cabin being on the bridge, and the officers' quarters aft, whilst the sailors will be accommodated for'ard. The engines will be of the compound type, 10-in. and 20-in. stroke, and will be placed aft. They are to be fitted by Messrs. Begg and Grieg [Greig], of Sydney. This firm also fitted the engines in the Pyrmont. A speed of 9 knots will be attained.
Copper fastenings have been used to the water line and galvanised above it. The keel of the Wandy was laid in September of last year, and since then 25 men have been employed by Mr. Sullivan in the yard and bush. The vessel will probably be towed to Sydney on Saturday by one of Messrs. J. and A. Brown's tugs [Alice].

ENTERED INTO THE CAPE HAWKE TRADE
The Cape Hawke Trade.— The new steamer Wandra, recently launched at Coopernook by Mr. D. Sullivan, has taken up the Cape Hawke trade for Messrs. Allen Taylor & Co. while the bar and crossing remain in their present shallow condition, and the S.S. Tuncurry is putting in the time elsewhere. The Wandra, when launched, was christened " Wandy" by mistake, but the correct name was registered by the company. She has been nicely fitted, and carries a good cargo on a light draught. Her speed is about 8 knots.

Grounding and damage to propellers was a common problem for vessels trading along the NSW Coast.
ACCIDENT TO THE WANDRA.
The Navigation Department received a telegram to-day stating that while coming down the Manning River yesterday, the steamer Wandra, owned by Messrs, Allen Taylor and Co., lost two blades of her [starboard] propeller. Repairs will have to be effected at Sydney.

WANDRA ASSISTS IN RESCUE OF TRAMP
Wandra and Tug to the Rescue.
It fell to the lot of the coasting steamer Wandra, one of Messrs. Allen Taylor and Company's fleet to rescue the Tramp from her dangerous position off the coast.
When the report was received from Captain Thomson of the Wyandra, Captain Hacking, the Superintendent of the Department of Navigation, notified Captain Kerkin at the Manning River of the dismasted schooner's position, and he was instructed to take steps to have the derelict removed from the track of navigation. The steamer Wandra happened to be off the Manning River, and she was signalled to proceed to the wreck. A message had meanwhile been received giving the position of the Tramp as five miles to the southward of Crowdy Head. The Wandra came across the derelict shortly before noon on Monday, and Pilot Kerkin telegraphed to the Navigation Department during the afternoon: "Wandra proceeded as instructed, and secured the derelict. She is now steaming towards the bar, with the derelict in tow."
There was a heavy sea at the Manning River entrance when the Wandra and the derelict arrived off the bar, and the subsidised tug, John Gollan, put out and picked up the Tramp from the Wandra, and towed her inside, the tug and the dismasted vessel entering the river at 3.55 p.m.

WRECKED ON ROCKS NORTH OF JERVIS BAY – 15th December 1915
FOUNDERING OF THE STEAMER WANDRA.
Twelve members of the crew of the steamer Wandra, one of the small coasters belonging to Messrs. Allen Taylor and Co., reached Jervis Bay, on the South Coast, at 1.30 o'clock yesterday morning and reported the loss of the vessel. The Wandra foundered off the Drumsticks, about seven miles north of Point Perpendicular.
The Wandra was bound from Moruya to Sydney, timber-laden, in charge of Captain Rueben Lucey. North of Jervis Bay, the vessel became unmanageable, and subsequently foundered, the crew escaping in the boat with only what they stood in. Captain Lucey telephoned to Messrs. Allen Taylor and Co., yesterday morning news of the disaster, and the company is arranging for the crew to return overland via Nowra.
The Wandra was specially designed for the timber trade on the coast, and she had been running both north and south since she was built in 1907. She was a wooden vessel, of 164 tons gross and 71 tons net, with a length
of 120ft. 5in., beam of 26ft., and depth of 5ft. 8in. The vessel and cargo were covered in the United Insurance Co.
STATEMENT BY THE CAPTAIN.
Nowra, Thursday. — Captain Lucey, of the Wandra, states that the vessel left Moruya yesterday morning with cargo of 48,800 superficial feet of timber, mostly girders, and everything went well until she got five or six miles north of Jervis Bay Lighthouse. At about 10 o'clock at night, wind and sea being moderate, the Wandra suddenly filled up on the lee side, and did not recover. She went in towards Drumsticks at Currarong. The captain let go the anchor quickly, but she foundered almost immediately in from eight to ten fathoms of water. All hands were landed without any flurry or excitement, and proceeded to Jervis Bay lighthouse, where they received every attention. Captain Lucey says there is no chance of salving the Wandra.

CREW'S EXPERIENCES AFTER SHIPWRECK.
NOWRA, Sunday 19th.
Captain Lucey, of the wrecked steamer Wandra, and all his crew, arrived at Nowra from Jervis Bay Lighthouse at 12.30 p.m. on Friday [17th]. They left the lighthouse at 6 o'clock in the morning, and a horse and cart having been provided by the lighthouse-keeper, they took it in turns to walk and ride towards Nowra. After covering some 12 miles in this manner they were met by vehicles sent out from Nowra, 16 miles away. From here they proceeded to Sydney.
The captain, who is suffering from a slight injury to one of his knees, sustained whilst landing at the Drumsticks, further states that immediately the sea was shipped and the steamer was in difficulties the ship's pumps were got to work, with the hope of pumping her out, but she never recovered the list received after shipping the sea, and sank with pumps working almost up to the last. The night was clear when she went down, and her masts were showing when they landed.
After landing rain set in, and being a cold night they all suffered considerably in their six-mile tramp to the lighthouse. The captain expressed his gratitude to the lighthouse-keeper and staff, who gave all the assistance in their power to himself and the crew, and provided them with a few pairs of boots, together with caps and tobacco.

THE WANDRA FOR SALE
Mr F R Strange advised that he is selling by public auction to-day at 28 Market street, at 11.30 a.m., the wreck of the steamer Wandra as she now lies at The Drumsticks, near Jervis Bay Heads, including a cargo of hardwood, consisting of hardwood sleepers.

The S boasted modifications typical of a higher-performance Porsche: these included a re-profiled cam, larger valves, better porting, loftier compression (9.8:1 vs. 9.0) and larger jets for the Weber carburettors (which were otherwise much like those given to the base 911 from early '66).
The result was 30 more horsepower, totalling 180 horsepower, furthermore the torque improved fractionally to 127 pound-feet, peaking fully at 1,000 rpm higher.
Unlike other models, the S lacked a choke, but pumping the accelerator was usually enough for starting. On the other hand, merely blipping the throttle on the freer-breathing S would send the tacho needle zinging to its 7,300 rpm redline. Porsche thus wisely fitted an ignition cut-out that interrupted spark to the plugs when it neared maximum revs, thus protecting the valve-train from overly enthusiastic drivers.
Naturally, the S also received chassis upgrades to match its extra power. These included a rear anti-roll bar (augmenting the one in front), Koni shocks, ventilated instead of solid-rotor disc brakes all-round and, soon to be a 911 hallmark, pretty five-spoke Fuchs alloy wheels that cut five pounds from the unsprung weight at each hub.
S gear ratios were evenly spaced except for the five-speed transmission's overdrive top, which was purposely very “high”. It gave 100 mph at 4,200 rpm, hardly a strain for the free-revving flat-six. Pulling a max rpm in the lower gears allowed the model to net 0-60 in eight seconds or less, running a standing quarter-mile of under 16 seconds at 90-plus mph.
Built in 1968 this fine example is finished in white with a contrasting black interior, and we're informed that it is in excellent condition throughout having undergone a full restoration. The interior is described as being “flawless”, boasting a period Grundig radio.
The car resided in Italy for many years and is now presented with a UK MoT certificate which is valid until July 2015, and is accompanied with European title documents. A fine example of a highly desirable motor car, and with values ever increasing, now is the time to buy one of Zuffenhausen's finest.

Growing up I used to love those gummy candies that are available at Walgreens and other corner convenience stores. My favorites were the gummy candies that were lathered and coated in sugar. More particularly the peach rings, and the sugar battered creepy crawlies.
It's been a while since I've indulged in the gummy goodness. Until today at least. I went to Safeway and swooped up a bag of non-sugar coated worms. They were great tasting ... at first. on nom nom nom
While taking this series of self portraits I repeatedly found myself chewing and eating the gummy worms. I downed so many that they tasted absolutely horrendous by the time I got the shot I wanted.
For the record, that is indeed a real jumbo sized creepy crawly slimey squirming live wriggling pulsing night crawling earthworm in my left hand!
Who said worms aren't cute? Earthworms are cool. And tapeworms are cute.
In any case, with Happy Hallow right around the corner -stay safe, and have fun out there everyone!

This is Bruno Zacchini's Super Repeating Cannon. It resides in the Museum of the Circus in Sarasota, Florida.

John Ringling saw the Zacchinis perform at Tivoli Gardens in Copenhagen, where he signed Hugo and Bruno (brothers) Zacchinni for the 1929 season of Ringling Brothers Circus. Over the years, the Zachinni family has dominated the human cannonball tradition. From the earliest 1900s, the Zachini brothers and their children have amazed thousands with their death-defying performance.
In 1946-47, the first Super-repeating cannon was designed and built by Bruno Zacchini with the assistance of his brother, Teobaldo in Sarasota. They used a GMC truck as the base. Bruno's daughter, Silvana, at the age of 16, became the first woman to be shot from this cannon. Later she was joined by her aunt, Simone Loyal, as a double human cannon ball act. Hugo was the last of the family members to take flight on August 29, 1991. The Zacchini's also suffered several serious accidents, including one, where two of them collided in mid air having been simultaneously shot from opposing cannons.
In 1961, this particular cannon would shoot 2 performers nearly 140' through the air in seconds of each other at speeds of 125 mph. The cannon is 37' long including the cab, 8' wide, and 20' high with the barrel raised. It is mounted on a Mack truck.
The operating mechanism has been removed--it remains a closely guarded family secret.

Al finalizar la movilización en defensa de la educación pública y gratuita, que conmemoró también el inicio de la huelga estudiantil de la UNAM durante el periodo de 1999, se dio lectura de varios posicionamientos y comunicados, en donde los estudiantes explicaron el clima represivo que se vive en la universidad, el cual han iniciado las autoridades universitarias en contra del movimiento estudiantil, tal es el caso de los compañeros de CCH Naucalpan que continúan expulsados por comenzar a difundir en qué consistía la reforma de los 12 puntos para los CCH´s.
Al finalizar el mitin y las participaciones solidarias de organizaciones sociales y otras escuelas; un grupo de estudiantes, dada la nula capacidad de respuesta de los funcionarios de rectoría, tomo unos metros del interior del edificio de esta institución para presionar y resolver las demandas de los estuantes de los Colegios de Ciencias y Humanidades, en cuanto a la reforma de los 8 puntos y la reinstalación de los 5 expulsados de CCH Naucalpan. Hasta la publicación de esta nota, una parte de un piso del edifico de rectoría continua tomado por estudiantes.

*** Relatorías del Caso de CCH Naucalpan
Debido al activismo estudiantil del Caso de los 5 expulsados por motivos políticos del CCH Naucalpan y de otros activistas, muchos de ellos menores de edad, funcionarios y empleados administrativos del plantel, todos ellos mayores de edad y con responsabilidades de funcionarios de Estado, han violado los derechos humanos de muchos estudiantes, inclusive no sólo en el aspecto de la discriminación por la forma de vestir o expresarse, sino incluso agrediendo físicamente a los estudiantes, entre ellos muchos menores de edad que por ignorancia o temor no levantan denuncias judiciales por estos hechos; situación que ha sido aprovechada por las autoridades del plantel para desarticular el activismo al que constitucionalmente tienen derecho los estudiantes tanto mayores como menores de edad.

Debido a lo anterior, los abajo firmantes demandamos:
1. La reinstalación de los 6 expulsados del CCH Naucalpan.
2. El retiro de las denuncias penales en contra de quienes participan en la lucha emprendida por las y los estudiantes de los CCH´s.
3. El desistimiento al uso de la fuerza pública como medio de solución del conflicto en la UNAM.
4. El cese a la criminalización de la protesta social.
5. Poner fin a la campaña de desprestigio y criminalización en contra de Juan Uriel Sandoval Díaz.
6. La derogación de la reforma educativa neoliberal.
Hacemos un llamado a la solidaridad con las diversas formas de lucha honestas que empeñan esfuerzos en la construcción de una sociedad justa y digna.

El sitio web Saboteamos.info dio a conocer que una asamblea de estudiantes de la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), realizada la tarde del 24 de abril, en el auditorio Che Guevara, acordaron solidarizarse con estudiantes del CCH Naucalpan que mantienen ocupadas las instalaciones de rectoría. Además elaboraron un plan de lucha en defensa de la educación.

En el comunicado, dirigido a la comunidad universitaria, a los medios de comunicación y al pueblo de México, los estudiantes explica que tras una reunión amplia entre estudiantes maestros y trabajadores se decidió dar una respuesta unitaria en contra de las amenazas de desalojo de la toma de rectoría que se leen entre líneas en los comunicados oficiales de las autoridades de la UNAM y se procesan en los medios de comunicación.

Queremos compartirles algunas reflexiones generales de cómo es que tratamos de entender lo que pasa en el marco de la lucha por la educación pública y de calidad, para todas y todos.
La actual dinámica de acumulación que el sistema capitalista opera, pretende abarcar todos los aspectos de la vida. Su lógica de producir mercancías ocasiona distintas reacciones y efectos al interno de las sociedades.
Hoy de nueva cuenta, la educación está en la mira de este sistema que desprecia la vida.
***La Autonomía Universitaria a juicio
Problemática: Ante la percepción de una crisis ética en la Universidad con respecto a la ausencia de rigor para interpretar la definición del concepto de Autonomía Universitaria propiciada por las múltiples acepciones ideológicas es pertinente recurrir a la concepción filosófica; La hipótesis que se pretende defender no intenta eliminar la ya existente delimitación de Autonomía Universitaria, - vigente en las instituciones que así se nombran - , cuyos matices de cada una de las escuelas no se alejan de la concepción político-jurídica, por lo tanto la geografía no incide de forma fundamental en su captación.
Parece la palabra de moda, opinadores, profesionales y no tanto, la esgrimen a diestra y siniestra para referirse a grupos en particular, a personas que pintan, toman y destruyen todos los símbolos del poder que los oprime, o por lo menos con el que no están de acuerdo. Encapuchados o no, estudiantes y maestros han demostrado en las últimas semanas su oposición de manera por lo menos más radical a lo que estábamos acostumbrados. Ambos grupos, estudiantes del CCH Naucalpan y maestros de la CETEG en Guerrero, tienen algo en común; recurren a la violencia por la falta de diálogo (que sí lo han buscado) con las autoridades.

It's been a while since I did a photo walk around sunset time. Not only because I've got tighter schedule back in Taiwan, but also the weather condition is far from OK to get a decent sunset view... Nevertheless here I am in the middle of nowhere around coastal shore in Chunghwa, central Taiwan, trying to capture the sunset!
As a matter of fact, I did not reach the destination I originally planned to. I was both late and lost when trying to locate the beach I wanted to be... I made up my mind to make some shots at the beach near where I pulled over my car! But before I could reach the beach, I needed to climb over concrete groyne fields. I think it's worthwhile as I kind of like the simplicity of the view here!
Honestly speaking the real challenge is how to get back to the car after sunset shooting. Imagine the situation... I was carrying "sandy" tripod, climbed up big cement stones, with my rainboots and in the dark! It's really spooky! I'm glad I managed to survive here! lol...

Photoshopcreatie. Ik had maar ruimte voor 12 etages op deze foto. De plannen gaan uit van 50 meter en dat zou dus 16 of 17 etages kunnen worden.
Als de plannen van de gemeente doorgaan ziet mijn straatje er over een paar jaar ongeveer zo uit!!!
In een van die flatjes rechts op deze foto woon ik .
De linker woontoren heb ik er zelf ingeshopt, hij staat er dus (nog) niet.
Tussen het bushokje uiterst links en de straat recht voor u ligt een stukje groen dat door velen wordt gezien als braakliggend terrein. Dit stukje is echter een monument, aangeboden aan Piet Vink bij zijn afscheid uit de Haagse gemeentepolitiek. Dit monument heet daarom "De Terp van Vink". .

Bijna heel Beach Resort Kijkduin is inmiddels verkocht aan projectontwikkelaar Q Vastgoed Creatie. Zij presenteerden onlangs hun ingrijpende nieuwbouwplannen voor Kijkduin - zie deze website www.hetnieuwekijkduin.nl - en de uitdrukkelijke wens van de gemeente om in deze buurt meer woningen te bouwen is op dit monument een hoogteaccent (we mogen een flatgebouw van 50 meter geen hoogbouw noemen van Marnix Norder) gepland. In deze buurt moeten volgens de huidige plannen 800 tot 1000 nieuwe woningen komen. Wethouder Marnix Norder is een verre opvolger en partijgenoot van Piet Vink en wil dus op een monument ter ere van zijn verre voorganger een wolkenkrabber neerzetten.
De buurt protesteert natuurlijk op volle toeren, voornamelijk tegen die enorme hoogbouw. Bij het verschijnen van het plan, enkele maanden geleden, heeft het Algemeen Dagblad (vroeger gewoon de Haagse Courant) een informatiebijeenkomst in het Atlantic Hotel georganiseerd. Het hotel was te klein, politie en beveiliging moesten ingeschakeld worden. Marnix Norder kon uitleggen wat hij wilde, aan het eind van de avond stak niemand een hand omhoog toen de AD-presentator vroeg of er nu meer begrip voor de plannen van Norder was. De gemeenteraad heeft het struktuurplan (of zoiets) inmiddels wel aangenomen en binnen afzienbare tijd worden de plannen voorgelegd aan bewoners, gebruikers en belanghebbenden. Dit wekt de suggestie dat er nog inspraak mogelijk is.
Wij zijn er klaar voor.
Puppies for Parole held its first annual auction in Jefferson City, Missouri, on September 8. More than 500 people attended the event for the live and silent auctions and BBQ dinner. Puppies for Parole is a program developed by the Missouri Department of Corrections (MDOC) to prevent the euthanization of dogs in local shelters. Director of Corrections George Lombardi stated, “The project allows offenders to be handlers of the dogs and train them within the prison environment over an 8-week period. The detainees learn a skill and the program changes their thinking and emotional makeup. It improves the atmosphere of the prisons and most importantly, helps those in need like the developmentally disabled, ailing and aging veterans, children of autism and returning combat veterans.” Our Hospice units use canines in several infirmaries across Missouri. Leon Vickers, Regional Director, gave a presentation at the auction detailing how the dogs in our hospice units aid/comfort dying inmates.
The event raised more than $17,000 for the dogs. Corizon employees attended the event and contributed over $1,700 through the auction items and tickets. Those in attendance from Corizon were: Stuart Campbell, Ralf Salke, Dr. Mark Fleming, Leon Vickers, Deb Steinman, Tara Taylor, Stormi Moeller, Cary Markley and Toni Keel. Stuart Campbell was the successful bidder of the Puppies for Parole metal work and donated it to the Missouri Regional Office to be displayed for all to see.

The Collector Earl's Garden (Arundel Castle), Opened by HRH The Prince of Wales on 14th May 2008.
The new formal garden at Arundel has been conceived as a light-hearted tribute to Thomas Howard, 14th Earl of Arundel (1585-1646), known as ‘The Collector’. He died in exile in Padua during the English Civil War and though his body was brought back to England and buried in the Fitzalan Chapel at Arundel, the elaborate tomb which he had specified in his will was never erected. This garden, adjoining the church, may now be an appropriate memorial for the future.

Arundel Castle in Arundel, West Sussex, England is a restored medieval castle. It was founded by Roger de Montgomery on Christmas Day 1067. Roger became the first to hold the earldom of Arundel by the graces of William the Conqueror. The castle was damaged in the English Civil War and then restored in the 18th and 19th centuries.
From the 11th century onward, the castle has served as a hereditary stately home and has been in the family of the Duke of Norfolk for over 800 years. It is still the principal seat of the Norfolk family.

The chapel now known as the "St. Anthony", is situated in a plantaforma on Fisherman's Beach in the town of Ericeira, forming the epicenter of the progression of the urban village. It is said today that divides north from south

Today is celebrated the third weekend, week of August the festivities in honor of Our Lady of Good Voyage patron saint of fishermen of Ericeira.

A capela hoje mais conhecida como de "Santo António", situa-se numa plantaforma sobre a Praia dos Pescadores na Vila da Ericeira, formando o epicentro da progressão urbana da vila. Diz-se ainda hoje que divide o Norte do Sul.
Sobre a história da capela pouco se sabe, sobretudo anteriormente ao sec. XVII. Alguns registos apontam-na como coeva à Paroquial (sec XIV ou XV), não registando vestigios materiais dessa época.
Foi capela da Câmara, próximo do primeiro Paço do Concelho. Sabe-se que em 1609, já era sede das confrarias de Nossa Senhora da Boa Viagem dos Homens do Mar e nela decorriam as suas sessões.. Em 1645, passou a ser a Capela de Nossa Senhora da Boa Viagem.
Era também nesta capela que funcionava a Confraria de Santo António, confraria das raparigas solteiras.
É curioso notar que esta capela tem assim duplo orago, ambos com o mesmo grau de importância.
Capela de modestas proporções nao se singia apenas ao culto, mas também a "farol" assinalando a entrada dos barcos no porto da Praia dos Pescadores, servindo-se para isso do pequeno sino colocado num nicho na parede do lado poente..
Em 1645 foi forrada a azulejos policromos,custeados pela oferta de um anel de grande valor, formando padrões diversos, dos quais se destaca, sobre o arco triunfal, ainda hoje conservado, um pequeno registo de Nossa Senhora da Boa Viagem com o Menino, rodeado de seis cabeças aladas de anjos, com os monogramas de Cristo, Maria e José e datados de 1634.
A primitiva imagem de Nossa Senhora da Boa Viagem de maiores proporções, em madeira estofada e policroma, restaurada em 1761, foi vandalizada e lançada ao mar na noite de 22 para 23 de Janeiro de 1912. Desta imagem apenas restou a mão que deu a costa no dia seguinte e que se conserva actualmente no museu da Sta Casa da Misericordia da Ericeira.
O actual edificio é do sec XVII, resulta da ampliação do anterior, e uma das obras ficou registada nas portas da frontaria - 1664. Em 1993, foi sujeita aobras de conservção e restauro da talha, pintura e douramento do retábulo. O coro alto possui um varandim de madeira de postes torneados que se repetem no pulpito lateral da capela.
Existem na capela seis imagens, a de Nossa Senhora da Boa Viagem, ladeada pelas imagens de Sto. António do lado direito e S. Vicente do lado esquerdo, ambas datadas do sec XVIII, de pequenas proporções , em madeira estofada com grande primor e graciosas, uma outra imagem de Sto. António de maiores proporções já do sex XX, e na nave em pianhas embutidas na parede, as imagens de S. Pedro e Sta. Catarina de Alexandria, também do sec XVIII, em madeira estofada. Na sacristia existe um arcaz do sec XVII/XVIII e uma imagem de S. Francisco de Assis sem datação certa
Actualmente celebra-se no terceiro fim-de-semana de Agosto as festas em honra de Nossa Senhora da Boa Viagem padroeira dos pescadores da Ericeira.

Thanks to this Polarizing filter mounted on my Nikkor AF-S 24mm f/1.4 lens (a very expensive prime lens), my lens survived a nasty stumble as I was walking in the streets of Chicago with uneven pavements and dangerous sidewalks. My D700 survived also!. Unfortunately my shoulder did not and I had to rush to the Emergency Room of Northwestern Hospital in huge pains.
Final results: Nikon gear fully functioning - the photographer has a fractured scapula with no possibility to take pictures for the next 6-8 weeks!
L'esterno si presenta ancora nella sua veste tardo romano, con influssi gotici, sopratutto lungo i lati e nella parete absidale. La facciata risale al 1401 opera dei maestri scalpellini locali di fattura semplice ed armoniosa in conci di travertino finemente lavorati. E' divisa in due sezioni da cornice dentellata; nella parte superiore vi è un doppio rosone concentrico ed incorniciatura sottotetto con motivo di archetti lobati che formano la cuspide. Nella parte inferiore il portale composto da elementi inseriti in successivi rimaneggiamenti. Il campanile crollato in seguito al terremoto del 1915, fu ricostruito nel 1932 su progetto dell'ingegnere Gioacchino Santori. L'interno con le sue linee vagamente barocche è stato ricostruito nella seconda metà del sec. XVIII; nella parte destra la cappella di S.Antonio, dove si possono ammirare i quattro sepolcri della famiglia Geraldini; notevolequello di Matteo ed Elisabetta Geraldini eseguiti da Agostino di Duccio nel 1477 Da notare il bel prospetto settecentesco dell'organo posto nella cantoria sopra il portale d'ingresso; la meccanica originale è stata sostituita negli anni cinquanta. Nell'ingresso a sinistra, entro l'ambiente scala d'accesso alla cantoria è recentemente affiorata una bella porzione di affresco medioevale. Uscendo dalla chiesa si può accedere, a destra, in un chiostro attiguo (ex collegio Boccarini), attraverso un bel portale rinascimentale. L'intero complesso complesso è stato costruito sotto il generalato di Fra Egidio Delfini, patrizio amerino, all'inizio del sedicesimo secolo, riutilizzando in diverse occasioni materiale di edificio gotico preesistente. Del chiostro originale è rimasto soltanto il porticato ed il loggiato formati entrambi da colonnine e capitelli in travertino. L'ex collegio Boccarini, molto noto all'inizio del secolo, in precedenza ospitava il convento dei francescani finché dopo l'unità d'Italia non fu espropriato; attualmente è in via di ristrutturazione. L'edificio alla estremità sinistra presente la graziosa facciata di una banca su cui spicca una quattrocentesca finestra a crociera (o guelfa); all'interno della banca sono visibili frammenti di affreschi di ordine sacro.

No ano de 2011, significando um grande avanço para os gaúchos, entrou em vigor a Lei n. 11.1011, a qual criou a Secretaria Especial dos Direitos Animais (SEDA), com atuação no município de Porto Alegre.
Em pouco mais de um ano, os dados estatísticos já demonstravam o significado dessa vontade política de grande valia para o povo, que cada vez mais clamava pela atuação pública na tutela dos animais. Somando mais de 18 mil ações nesse período, a SEDA realizou, por meio de seus servidores, mais de 9.400 esterilizações, mais de 590 cirurgias outras, mais de 6.404 fiscalizações e 230 atendimentos, devido a denúncias, bem como cerca de 640 adoções, beneficiando animais resgatados, abandonados e até mesmo oriundos de colecionadores e protetores de animais.
Nesse panorama, verificam-se duas questões basilares. A primeira é o fato de que os dados vieram comprovar a premência que havia em Porto Alegre no sentido de ter um órgão realmente efetivo e especializado nesses cuidados. A segunda, abrange o tema que será brevemente abordado neste artigo, que diz quanto à inexistência, nas demais cidades rio-grandenses, de órgãos similares, demonstrando que a ausência de políticas públicas de proteção animal, tornam a atuação de outros órgãos públicos retrógradas e até mesmo arbitrárias, ferindo diretamente os direitos fundamentais dos cidadãos que protegem os animais, especialmente os comunitários.
A grande incidência de animais comunitários ganhou espaço frente ao crescimento das cidades, suas consequentes mudanças sociais, econômicas, jurídicas e ambientais e a desatualização, bem como a falta de especialização dos agentes públicos diante dessas alterações.
Muito embora existam legislações louváveis como o Estatuto do idoso2, a Lei dos Crimes Ambientais3 e a própria Constituição brasileira, cujas normas protegem os direitos fundamentais, como o direito à propriedade4, à liberdade e à igualdade5 , ainda assim entes municipais seguidamente têm atuado contra a proteção animal, ignorando a existências de tais normas, violando direitos e interesses individuais e difusos dos cidadãos brasileiros.
Assim, não é incomum, órgãos como a vigilância sanitária agirem arbitrariamente, sem qualquer observância das legislações municipais, estaduais e, mesmo, federais, mediante a notificação de cidadãos, que exercendo direito seu, alimentam animais comunitários ou que possuem mais de um animal em seu apartamento e são denunciados falsamente por vizinhos sobre falta de higiene e risco à saúde.
Isto não seria problema, se as notificações fossem emitidas com base em fatos que representassem efetivo risco à saúde pública e não de forma abusiva, com base em meras reclamações, despidas de qualquer veracidade, sem verificação do local, sem qualquer fundamento ou conhecimento de causa, em desacordo com as normas vigentes no país e, como se não bastasse, seguindo orientação desatualizada e arcaica, de “Códigos de Postura e Leis Orgânicas Municipais”, ainda vigentes em seu município, elaborados anteriormente à Constituição de 1988 ou, posteriormente, à margem desta.
Ademais, além de determinadas leis conterem dispositivos inconstitucionais no bojo de seu texto, ainda trazem palavras discriminatórias e desprovidas de lógica semântica, como por exemplo, utilizar a palavra ”vadio” ao tratar de animais comunitários ou abandonados. Isso demonstra a inadequação e a estagnação de determinadas legislações, uma vez que vadio significa “sem ocupação ou trabalho”; “sem destino certo”; e, “diz-se de quem pouco se empenha em alguma atividade (estudo, trabalho etc)”.6
A toda evidência não só há urgência na criação e na alteração de leis, mas também há premência na criação de órgãos similares à Secretaria Especial dos Direitos Animais nos demais municípios do Rio Grande do Sul, que atuem sem transgredir as legislações vigentes e sem atentar contra os direitos fundamentais; que contem com agentes especializados, conhecedores do assunto; e, que tenham como objetivo precípuo dar proteção aos animais abandonados e atuar preventivamente à proliferação indevida dos mesmos.
Na contemporaneidade, não se admite atos de crueldade praticados contra os animais, muito menos quando advindos da administração pública. A proibição de alimentar animais comunitários, vítimas do crescimento das cidades, da agressão, do abandono e do descaso de muitos indivíduos é um ato cruel, desumano e configura, dependendo da forma como for imposta, autêntico ato de abuso de poder.
Cumpre ressaltar o fato de que, a maioria dos casos que chegam aos advogados e às delegacias é geralmente de idosos que alimentam animais de sua comunidade ou de portadores de necessidades especiais que fazem disso uma causa e até mesmo uma razão para viver. Por vezes, idosos são violentados psicologicamente por condôminos que residem no mesmo prédio, os quais passam a praticar um legítimo bullying, progressivo contra essas pessoas, a par de serem pessoas com maior vulnerabilidade, ameaçando-as e perturbando-lhes a tranquilidade.
Diante da atuação arbitrária de órgãos municipais, mormente das Secretarias da Saúde e Vigilância Sanitária ou de qualquer outra entidade que, eventualmente, venha notificar cidadãos que abraçam a causa animal, sempre existe a possibilidade de buscar a solução desses conflitos na Justiça.
Cabe, porém, ressaltar que notificações arbitrárias podem ser refutadas mediante contranotificação, a qual dará respaldo ao contranotificante, em caso de persistência da autoridade municipal, seja na esfera administrativa, seja na judicial.
Como exemplo, destaco o caso de recente notificação da Secretaria da Saúde e Vigilância Sanitária, de um município litorâneo, dirigida a pessoas que alimentam animais comunitários, com o fito de proibi-los desse cuidado. Absurda, desumana e cruel mostra-se tal notificação que vai de encontro à Lei dos Animais Comunitários7, dentre outras leis, as quais não trazem esta proibição, pelo contrário, tratam de regular o assunto.
Maior a perplexidade, quando se compara a atuação dos servidores da SEDA, frente a casos semelhantes, cuja preocupação é cadastrar, microchipar e esterilizar animais comunitários, sem retirá-los do seio da comunidade.
A maior lição que se pode retirar do tema, é que não apenas os animais são prejudicados nesses casos, mas, sobretudo, os indivíduos que tem seus interesses, seus direitos fundamentais e sua dignidade8 violados, causando-lhes dor e dano psicológico e, muitas vezes, até físicos, por causar ou agravar doenças.
Portanto, a luta pelos direitos dos animais é uma verdadeira luta pelos direitos humanos, que continuará por muito tempo a ser travada pelos indivíduos contra as arbitrariedades de outros particulares e do Poder Público, até que se atinja o nível mínimo de informação, educação, conscientização e respeito, que hoje já são compreendidos apenas por alguns.

A short stop by the road. I took the opportunity to photograph the grass!
Grass flowers have always appealed to me.
I remember that when I was a kid, fog grass gave me terrible hayfever. It made me itch all over and my eyes ran so much that I could hardly see. Yet, I thought the grass was so beautiful that I picked bunches of it to take home to my mother!!
Now I'm happy just to photograph it.
Going through my photos recently, someone was looking over my shoulder and when I came to the grass pictures, they said, well there's some you can delete. :-O
I am glad to find plenty of people on Flickr who recognise the beauty of grass.
