The counter at the Nantucket Pharmacy on Main Street in Nantucket, Massachusetts. When I was a little girl all pharmacies had lunch counters but in most places they are long gone.
I like this store because they sell unique hair barrettes and combs that I don't see anywhere else. I always stock up when I go to Nantucket. They also have a selection of old fashioned toys that kids really seem to enjoy, like little cars, beach toys, card games and the like. The other thing I love about this store is its wooden screen door which makes a satisfying slapping sound when it shuts.
Nantucket had until very recently two pharmacies side by side, Congdon's and the Nantucket. They both had lunch counters. I'm sorry to say that Congdon's has closed. Of course I suppose no one needs side-by-side identical pharmacies but it was awfully funny and charming. Now there will be just another store selling useless stuff.
