The Battle of Pea Ridge (also known as Elkhorn Tavern) was a land battle of the American Civil War, fought on March 6–8, 1862, at Pea Ridge in northwest Arkansas, near Garfield. In the battle, Union forces led by Brig. Gen. Samuel R. Curtis defeated Confederate troops under Maj. Gen. Earl Van Dorn. The outcome of the battle essentially cemented Union control of Missouri. The battle was one of the few during the war in which a Confederate army outnumbered its Union opponent.

A restaurant famous for it's split pea soup. It had great 50's diner appeal and wacky mascots.

They are growing like crazy! Finn has decided he loves their crunchy sweet goodness! (like his Wheaten buddy Elliot!) so I have to watch him, otherwise we won't get any!

Purple hull peas are a field pea, a cousin to the black-eyed pea. The rich raised these guys for livestock back in the times of slavery, but would throw some to the slaves (or poor whites). So, they became soul food. The poor would spice them up with leftover pork fat, etc. and make them delicious.

I actually think these guys are creamier and smoother than black eyed peas. They have a fresher, earthier flavor to me. I love purple hull pea season. www.rxcipes.com/2011/08/purple-hull-peas-something-i-like...

The peas are all over the place! I love how you can see them literally bursting out of the blossoms.
