Green pea is one of a few things I normally buy frozen but once or twice a year I find fresh shelling peas at farmer's market. I always prepare it and use it the same way I normally do with the frozen ones.....but today I'm thinking what can I do to make it more interesting and different.
Would you share how you or what you do with green peas? I know many of you are great cook!
Aka Asparagus Red Flowered, Winged Red Pea. One of the few red flowered varieties still grown. A strange one having full thick pods, bearing many wings, grown on <12" tall small leafed plants. Some folks saute the pods when young. A legume not related to either Asparagus or peas!
Sweet pea (Lathyrus odoratus) flowers. If I remember correctly, this cultivar is 'Noel Sutton'. It's a little faint, due the hot sun and being picked yesterday. The crazy bokeh in the background is light and sky filtering through a red-leafed maple tree.
from commercial shoot this wknd...worked with so many gorgeous kids. and the pieces were beautiful!

My peas appear to be doing well under their hooped row cover. Snow peas are closest to the camera with sugar snap peas further down the row. There are about 10' (3m) of peas in a double row in this raised bed. Looks like I will have to weed soon ...

The weather here has been good for gardening. It has been warm with rain every few days so I don't have to worry about watering. I planted 2 little rows, can't wait until they are ready!
My best guess on this thorny shrub is that it is a species of Bitter Pea (Daviesia), probably Daviesia inflata. Photographed along a wooded trail in Kondil Wildflower Park, located near Nannup, Western Australia.
My grandma used to cook hamburger in a pan full of grease and a can of peas. Yum!
She used to cook that for us all the time when my brother and I were kids. It's so gross if you think about it.
This is my vegetarian version. Half a boca. The bright green pea is a frozen one that Aaron threw in there as a taste test. He says after one taste of that frozen pea, I'll never do canned again. Whatever.
Of all the photos taken this summer, this is my favourite yacht.
14 metre, solid mahogany, built by Cantieri di Loano in 1964. 2 x 100hp Iveco diesels replaced 18 months ago, just 110 hours on the clocks. Owned last 10 years by the man who showed me over her, beautifully built down below but would benefit from a new galley.
Owner has only motored her in the med with his pals, she doesn't even have a jib and the boom is tied off, she would be the ideal northern european motorsailor.... owner has recently repayed the deck... she needs for nothing.
And she's for sale... and I have his telephone number if anyone wants it. 90,000 euros but I'm sure in this economy he'd come down.
So far in my dreams I've sailed the west coast of Scotland, up to North Cape and done the Baltics.
I'm smitten, poor but rich in dreams.
