Carlin Sunday or Pease Sunday... was an English holiday. These were the type most commonly used in the recognition of this day.
Decided it was time to provide something for my peas to grow onto... strung up some twine with stakes.
An annual hill climb has been running on Pea Royd Lane since 2004,
when club founder Stewart Smith began hosting it for his previous club Thurcroft CC.
Stewart also promoted the National Hill Climb on the same course in 2009 - Images taken from the 2014 Champs
In July we found some seeds that we had collected in Key West last November. Ron planted them, and what grew are Butterfly Pea vines. Taken by Edgar.

The Battle of Pea Ridge (also known as Elkhorn Tavern) was a land battle of the American Civil War, fought on March 6–8, 1862, at Pea Ridge in northwest Arkansas, near Garfield. In the battle, Union forces led by Brig. Gen. Samuel R. Curtis defeated Confederate troops under Maj. Gen. Earl Van Dorn. The outcome of the battle essentially cemented Union control of Missouri. The battle was one of the few during the war in which a Confederate army outnumbered its Union opponent (from Wikipedia).
This was scanned from a Kodachrome slide I took with an Olympus OM-1 around 1975.
Pale pink smaller version of Sweet Pea Shawl from the Happy Hooker Stitch n Bitch book. I made a ruffled edging instead of a fringe as it is for a young girl who like girly things.
Butterfly pea. A volunteer plant, and only flowering plant in my balcony vegetable garden. I had no expectation whether it would bloom, I just tried to keep the plant happy and healthy. When I saw the bud, I could not believe it’s happening so soon and then the thought came what color the flowers going to be? White? I love white flowers but wanted it to be blue. Life is full of surprises, isn’t it?

Some beautiful Sweet Peas I happened to see the other day.
"These flowers have a fascinating history. It is generally believed that the first sweet pea seeds were harvested from the wild by a monk living on the island of Sicily and sent to an English schoolmaster in 1699. These simple small maroon and purple bicolored blossoms had captivating fragrance, and sweet peas enjoyed some small popularity, but only five other colored selections were available at the beginning of the 19th century. In the mid -1880's, a Scotsman named Henry Eckford began hybridizing and selecting sweet peas, introducing much larger, more beautifully formed varieties with a wider range of colors. These "grandifloras" became very successful commercially as cut flowers and were widely grown by horticulturists for exhibition."

We stopped for dinner at Pea Soup Andersons in Buellton, where you get unlimited split pea soup with toppings: ham, bacon, cheese, scallions and croutons. Yummy! The chocolate milk shake is included in the $8.95 price of the dinner, so it's like having dinner and dessert together.
