I turn 58 in a few days and I'm starting to feel it. I've been an empty nester for several years and won't be getting any grandchildren, we've a former president who's called himself a dictator running again and half the country says yes, and the world appears on the brink of a third world war......
and then there is this....
I'd like the world to blow this up as large as they can and stare at it for ten minutes and reflect on what's actually important. For me, it's the infinitely patient woman in the camp chair behind me wearing a trench coat and wrapped in my blanket, the only part of her that is visible is her huge beautiful smile.
Let's stop arguing and start talking, let's stop thinking of ourselves and start thinking of each other. We are only on this planet for a blink of an eye so hugs people, make love not war.

Yesterday was the 33rd annual shove the tree up the angels' arse day so I've got some catching up to do, see ya soon although I may be done for the year or there won't be anything to put under said tree. :)
Oh, Great Spirit who dwells in the sky,

It's not just night herons here. The birds are known to be willing to nest with great blues, egrets, and in this case, the odd mourning dove. Sounds nice and peaceful until nothing but constant fighting breaks out. Maybe this fella wanted a little peace from that crowd.

A fair bit has happened since last I posted. Soon after the last post we finally caught covid having avoided it for all but the last 2 years. Thankful that we weren’t too badly affected. We’ve also been away and enjoyed some downtime whilst enjoying creation. Sadly though we watched as an aggressor opted to invade the Ukraine. Praying that peace will come quickly to the area. ( This was taken 22.2.22)
I imagine some here are familiar with the poetry, essays, and books of the author and farmer, Wendell Berry, of Kentucky. He is a favorite author of mine, and it was a privilege to meet him once about twenty years ago. This is his poem.
THE PEACE of WILD THINGS

An old shot from Santa Fe NM, I think... seems appropriate today.
Some Calgary friends we were visiting over the summer took us to see the Peace Bridge. It's quite the interesting design. Unfortunately, someone with a sledge hammer broke many of the glass panes and now the city is looking at a million dollar repair with measures to avoid future vandalism.
In any case, it's a much visited (and photographed) spot and I tried a number of different compositions - including this one, which to me speaks not only of spanning the river but the city as well. A heavy hand on sliders, will hopefully make it eligible for the Sliders Sunday Group. Hope you're having a terrific weekend!

'Peace' hybrid tea-rose.

'Peace' is one of the most famous of all hybrid tea roses. It was bred by Francis Meilland in 1935, in Lyon, France, under the original cultivar name of 'Madame A. Meilland'. This name was a dedication to his mother, Claudia Antoine Meilland.
Shortly before Germany invaded France in 1939, Francis Meilland sent budwood of his rose to rose growers in the USA, Italy and Turkey to ensure that his rose would not be destroyed during the war. The 'Peace' budwood escaped from France on the last plane that was available before the German invasion.
In the USA, budwood was sent to the Conard-Pyle Company in Pennsylvania. Robert Pyle then proceeded to propagate the rose. It was this US rose company that then introduced Francis Meilland's rose to the world under the cultivar name of 'PEACE', on April 29th, 1945 (VE Day), which was the same day that Berlin fell to the Allied forces.
When the Nazis left France in early 1945 Francis Meilland had written to the US Commanding Officer, Field Marshall Alan Brooke, and thanked him for helping to liberate France. He also asked the Field Marshall to name the rose. Alan Brooke wrote back to Meilland and asked that the rose be called 'PEACE'. Two doves were then released into the American sky to symbolise the release of the 'Peace' rose.
At the very first meeting of the United Nations, in San Francisco, in April 1945, each of the UN delegates were given a 'Peace' rose with the note:
"We hope the 'Peace' rose will influence men's thoughts for everlasting peace'
It is the most awarded rose of all time, most significantly winning the All-American Rose Selection Award in 1949.
It is still, today, the biggest selling rose of any kind in the world.
In Italy 'Peace' is called Gioia (Italian for "joy"), whlist in Germany it is called Gloria Dei (Latin for "glory of God").
It is known as 'Peace' elsewhere such as here, in the Hills District of Sydney!!

Wouldn't that be great when the next virus would be called "Peace" and would really hit everybody? Isn't peace what each of us desires for ourselvers and for everybody in this world that is the house of all of us? And it should be still the house for those who come after us... so we better take care and care for creation and peace in this world. May Peace conquer the world and not hatred!
I wish everybody in this most beautiful world would have respect before the other and it doesn't matter which color we're born in... nobody can help it when he/she is born as a white or dark-skinned person. We are all human beings and belong to one humanity! We share one house ad that is our Mother Earth!
I wish you peace deep within and that peaceful thoughts conquer all hearts and eventually conquers the whole world! Let's work for that, please!
